Something new I see is the both XB1 and PS4 are offering extended warranties for their consoles in their stores. You can also buy them from 3rd party sellers (ie via Amazon) or from the big box retailer you purchased the console from (ie Gamestop, BestBuy).

I think I am going to buy them directly from Microsoft and Sony - each offer 3 years for $49.99. I would suggest paying the extra $10 for PS4 to get the all-risk warranty so even accidental damage is covered.

One thing worth noting is that the warranties must be purchased within 30 days of your console purchase.

As an insurance man myself I really see the value of these and would advise everyone to do the same.

I usually don't do this kind of thing because most of the time it is not needed. But after last gen, I'm really considering it, also the direct route.

I just read that the X1 includes two controllers in the warranty. You have to figure that pays for itself if you break a controller in 3 years (although I wonder what they consider "broken")

For something like consoles, I think it's a wise investment, but be sure to read what it'll actually cover. What an employee might tell you will sound nice, but when it comes time to replace a console, it's best to know that the replacement of your console is guaranteed.

All day every day. Time vs Money for me. Also I work at the store I'm buying my extended on, so if anything happens I know it will be taken care of.

I usually buy add-on warranties for expensive electronics. Computers, TVs, game consoles. Sure, you probably won't need it, but in the event you do, it makes everything a hell of a lot easier.

Invested in the MS Extended warranty. I believe it'll be $70 well spent.

I pick and choose which products to get extended warranties on. I did for this one.

Nope, extended warrantees are for fools IMO. More times than not they are pure profit for the company offering them.
Although I agree with the Ape man sometimes you just might end up with a faulty system and you never know if you've been a selected lucky one with a bad system until the breaking happens.

Ugh... Decisions, decisions, decisions...

For X1 it's only $10 more than a game. So just think of it as you're buying a game. Only this game will allow you to play other games for 3 years even if your console dies.

I got a one year for the PS4 and didn't get one for Xbox One.

I may still do it. But Best Buys one year warranty was $100. I said screw that.

I just read that the manufacturer warranty with Microsoft is until Feb 2015, I am going to register my console over the weekend and see if it tells me the same, if so I will be skipping an extra warranty

The warranty that came with my Day One goes until Feb15 2015. If anything is going to happen (RROD v2) it will happen before that. Besides I would expect a price cut sometime before then if I ever want to replace the console. Warranties are only there to make the company money.

Then MS has made money off of me, but at least I feel secure in my purchase.

The MS warranty does cover replacement for up to two controllers in addition to the console, which makes the deal a lot better. I agree that if your console makes it fine to 2015, you're probably good beyond that, but I bet you break at least one controller in that time which almost pays for it.

The MS Warranty is pretty nice. And the SQUARETRADE Warranty is a good lever to when that one goes out.

The fact that my MS extended warranty is until Feb 2017 is just insane. It's 2013. 2017 is not for a long long time.
