Sources: This year's COD is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
BLOPS on the ground.

This year's Call of Duty game is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, multiple sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.

Black Ops 4 is in development at Treyarch, the Activision studio behind the three other Black Ops games, and as you'd expect is due for launch late in the year.

The Black Ops storyline so far has covered the Cold War, near future, and a further time period in 2065. In particular, Black Ops 3 had a fully sci-fi focus - something which Black Ops 4 will dial back to better fit the series' recent desire for a more grounded feeling - in response to the negative feedback surrounding 2016's space-set Infinite Warfare.

Word of Black Ops 4 first appeared online this week in a Twitter post from self-styled "industry insider" Marcus Sellars. In a series of posts made over the past few days, Sellars also referenced a Nintendo Switch version of Black Ops 4 was in development - a detail we're still working to verify.

Sellars also posted word of the fellow Activision-published Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy - which Eurogamer sources have also said is on the cards.

COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to Xbox/PS4/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

I am still working my way through WWII, which I am enjoying. MP needs more maps though. They also need to dump headquarters. Just make it in and out like the games used to be. No battle royal, unless it's an option that I don't need to play.

My problem with the HQ in COD WW2 is it took them so long to get it working right. They should drop it in another game. Hopefully a Black Ops 4 goes modern day or back in time again. If it’s futuristic it’s a no buy for me.

If it's similar to the original Black Ops then it'll be great. Love that game. Black Ops 2 was good but the original is an all time classic.

Ha! Love it. I would change it to that, but Plainview would probably have a virtual heart attack.

Black Ops 3 was really bad, hopefully they can return the series to its former glory.

Sounds like Xbox may get some form exclusivity...

So could Call of Duty WWII be the last year with PlayStation for the foreseeable future? There has been one mega clue released by David Vonderhaar, one of the main people behind the CoD 2018 title, believed to be called Black Ops 4 according to leaks.

Vonderhaar changed his profile picture on Twitter to Xbox avatar character on Wednesday, March 7th, which has started rumors of whether we’ll see the exclusivity switch.

The move appears to be a tease and with Activision and their developers under constant scrutiny, it seems unlikely that it was posted by mistake.

The details of Call of Duty 2018 title have yet to be released but more information is expected to be announced between April and May, which would fall in line with previous years.

I think you’re wrong. That’s all footage from previous games. I hope it’s grounded with slightly future weapons and set in current times.
I agree.

Yeah that's just the old games I think. Hopefully they can bring back some "old school" modern shooter stuff like the last COD did for WW2.

Sounds like MS is taking back over COD marketing.

Think Blops 3 was the last CoD I played, and it was a waste of money. Really don't care about this series anymore.

Has kinda been debunked.

Shooting themselves in the foot if true though.
My son says if it happens..he wants a Xbox lol
Who would be shooting themselves in the foot? Not Activision. They win no matter who wins the bidding war.

The campaigns are generally the only reason I buy these games anymore (if I do) but without one there is virtually no chance I'll be picking up the next one.

Black Ops 1 was my favourite campaign, Black Ops 2 campaign was meh. Activision might as well have COD Online for an annual fee and release campaign only COD for £24.
