Playing Cold War beta with some buddies. I like the feel of this kinda reminds me of the earlier Black Ops. We just got our first win on Fire Team Dirty Bomb mode. That mode is fun.

I think it’s pretty great they were able to capture the feel of the old Black Ops games only with updated graphics. I can’t wait for the launch of this game.

FWIW the same streamer who had tons of problems with the alpha seems to think the lag is a ton better. I'm definitely going to give this another try on Xbox. It doesn't seem available to download yet for non pre-orders but it should go live sometime Saturday. It is possible that the alpha just had some issues that were worked out.

I'm always skeptical though too as these guys make their living off the game, so they tend to downplay issues. You could definitely tell something was off in the alpha though. Even over Youtube I could tell things looked better though.

I only experienced lag in one match all night on XBox. For a beta it ran surprisingly well.

Tried this again last night and just not for me. First match was TDM on Moscow and felt good, like old school Black Ops. The next 2-3 matches though were just frustration. Big team mode was one. Think I died 6 times, 5 of which were to snipers hiding in a corner somewhere. Another match was on Satellite and pretty much the same thing. Dead to people just hiding in the corner somewhere sniping. And with this game's auto aim with snipers it's just dumb. Ended up just canceling the pre-order.

Sniping is definitely way more powerful from MW. They removed the scope glint which gave you a decent chance in MW to at least be able to react. Now that's gone so you can easily be sniped and never see them until the kill cam. Snipers were still pretty good in MW so this is a big shift.

The map design definitely has some campy shooter lanes for sure too. I think run and gun will work, but I think like MW the map design is going to push things a little slower.

I seem to remember seeing scopes from snipers last night.

and I had no problem running and gunning all night. I went positive all but one match. Maps felt good to me better than MW. Of course you going to see some campers every COD has camping, but I found it easier to take out campers in this.

They may have changed it, I'll have to check. I know the glint on MW was pretty strong, you would see it if anyone was aiming in your general direction.

The slower time to kill(relatively, it is still fast) gives you a lot more time to react than MW for sure. In MW, the time to kill was so short that you could rarely react. It is only measured in tenths of seconds, but you can definitely shoot second but still have a chance to win if you are more accurate. In alpha I was definitely running into campers who had me "Dead to rights" but I was able to headshot them first. In MW, if someone was camping and mounted, they pretty much had you unless they were horrible.

There's definitely more of a gun battle and not "boom - dead" from MW. Headshots are really rewarded too.

The MP in this feels better than MW MP. This is fun again. MW outside of the small maps was frustrating/annoying than fun. Plus the spawns really killed that game. Last night on Cold War spawns didn’t flip that often unless everyone overran a spawn. So much better.

I was curious about that as well. I may give the open beta a try but honestly after playing BF5 more recently I'm having a lot more fun in that. I'm imagining how great CoD could be if they had dedicated servers.

Modern Warfare had servers so I would assume this does as well. The problem is that the strict skill based matchmaking means that it tries to find equal players over a better connection, so things can be a lot more laggy.

I finally found the beta on the web

Crossplay is a no buy for me. They are not doing input matching, so be ready to be thrown in against mouse and keyboard players. I'm pushing 50 years old, I don't need even more disadvantages. Had someone going 35-0 on the server and was obviously a god tier PC player.

Been wrecking in MP. I really have no complaints it plays great. Even playing crossplay we can hold our own. Love it, bring on November.

Throwing is just a lot slower. Every grenade I throw I move into cover too quick and it bounces back at my feet.

MW skill based matchmaking forced me into being a negative player every round and this is doing the same to me. If I turn off crossplay, I'm in the middle or even better. Whatever allegorist they use just hates me. It is a shame because this game has a lot of positives. The 6 v 6 game is so much better than MW. It isn't just all spawn camping and crazy non-stop action. This has action, but you can move out of your spawn and actually play the map, instead of constantly just reacting.

Tried a fresh look at this, and there's pros and cons:

The good:
-The gunplay - once you get some attachments on the guns, they are good

-The spawns - huge improvement. Outside of Domination, the spawns were really good, and even dom isn't horrible. (spawns are always going to flip in that mode). 6v6 is actually fun now. You play the map and not just hope you spawn pointing at the enemy.

The bad:
-Scorestreak/upgrade spam. Constant spy planes force you to use ghost. Field mics seem way too powerful (not sure what if any perks counter it. Plant a field mic and camp and objective for tons of easy kills. The late game turns into dueling chopper gunners. I like the scorestreak idea, but the late game is dominated by them. The late game just gets so slow paced. I pretty much spend the latter game hiding in a building.

-Skill based matchmaking - I'm definitely getting the bouncing between humans and pros again. Had a game where I went 2.5 and got some streaks, next game I'm up against far better players. Like MW, it isn't even skill based matchmaking, more of a "you did too well now prepare to get stomped". It is an awful system that rewards losing and punishes winning.

-Crossplay - It doesn't seem to show you anyone's input method which is very bad. I'm up against PC players who are obviously using mice. I just want a fair chance against other controller players.

-Snipers are far too powerful. SMGs are too good. Assault rifles lose to SMGs at short range and snipers at long.

-Performance/graphics. On an X1X the game just feels clunky. Does not feel like a steady FPS. Maybe next gen will improve.

I’m not seeing the punishing skill based matchmaking in this. Have no problem doing well in almost every match. We go against a couple good players but never an entire team like in MW.

I seem to remember scorestreaks resetting once you died on the older games. On here when you die you keep building the streaks.

I guess there's a scorestream multiplier, that as you streak gets a lot higher. (basically every kill on a streak is worth a lot more, so dying resets the multiplier but not the streak). So basically, say you have 2 good streaks but a death or two in the middle, you can still get them.

Basically, you're guaranteed something by the end.

Also, about 30 minutes ago they unlocked all attachments for any gun you have unlocked, so I am going back in and trying some gun builds with everything open.

Yep, this is just garbage. I wish I could get into normal people lobbies like other people here. I'm in PC/PS4 lobbies all with kids with mouse and keyboard. I have zero chance. I'm negative every single round now again.

Objective modes are useless at the end with all the scorestreak spam.

Another trash game... I'm done. All mouse and keyboard snipers. I'm too old for this garbage.

Disable cross play maybe? At least you won’t have PC players.

That helps a ton, but then it takes many minutes to find a match. MW was the same way, especially after the first month of the game. That's about the only way I can play though. It is funny, I would love to see my stats without crossplay vs with. I bet it would be a dramatic difference. I run into great Xbox players, but nobody who is crazy.

Honestly too I think the big problem is that people are using those hardware things to use mouse and keyboard but emulate a controller, so they get aim assist + mouse accuracy.
