I doubt the maps will be paid like an old DLC. They'll need to give those away free to keep interest in this game for a whole 2nd year. Stuff like that always divided the community. There was nothing more annoying than buying maps only to find that half the community didn't buy them too.

I'm excited for this game despite the cheater issues. That said, I'm not expecting the servers to be able to handle the launch.

The problem is a lot of pre-paid plans don't seem to support Activision's system. Mine does fortunately, but some like Cricket and Mint don't.

I don’t care if they have my phone number, but why do they need it?

Mostly to cut down on smurfs and cheaters on the free to play side (Warzone). It doesn't prevent all of it, but makes it harder.

In WZ1, they can "ban" people all they want, they just make another account and update their hacks.

It isn't even really needed for the main game, but they probably want everything through one account.

I have Straight Talk, it worked when I tried out Overwatch 2.
Are LGBTQ people offended by that company?

I reinstalled Black Ops Cold War to scratch that Hardcore MP itch, and came across some astonishingly good players. Obviously cheating. Making me think twice about picking up MW2 now.

I’ve been play Vanguard MP lately haven’t ran across people doing anything questionable and it seems like SBMM is not as strict in this game.

It isn't unusual to see older games dominated by cheaters. I don't think their current anti-cheat started until Vanguard and later in WZ so it isn't a shock all the cheaters are on CW. From what I understand, their anti-cheat is actually pretty decent.

I guess at this point I'll probably go with Xbox instead of PC, and disable crossplay. Hopefully I won't miss 120fps.

Going by this, Only PC players need a phone number to play MW2 & Warzone 2.0.

SMS Security Policy

A text-enabled mobile phone number is required to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II on PC. Existing Call of Duty®: Warzone™ players that have previously verified their account will not be required to provide any additional information to access Modern Warfare II and Warzone™ 2.0.

The SMS policy for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 on Battle.net is the same as the requirement for Call of Duty: Warzone on PC, which was implemented in May 2020. A mobile phone number must be linked to your Steam Account to play Modern Warfare II on that platform.
SMS verification is critical to our anti-cheat enforcement efforts, tackling illicit account creation at its source. This helps our security team to maintain account and game security in order to provide a safe, fair, and fun gaming experience for all our players. In August 2022, we updated the SMS policy for new players of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), requiring a text-enabled mobile phone number to play the game. Prior to this change, new accounts in Modern Warfare could access Warzone without a SMS security check. As the illicit account market adjusted to our security enforcement, #TeamRICOCHET started seeing more cheaters attempt to access Warzone from Modern Warfare to bypass the SMS policy, so the security team recommended the update to further combat the illicit account market.

The SMS requirement for game access is used for security purposes only. Call of Duty does not use SMS verification data for marketing purposes.
