This game is really killing me. I am constantly put into losing lobbies, usually against teams clearly working together (moving as a team and covering each other). My k/d has fallen to .94 and my win/loss is even worse at .91. My teammates just rush and die over and over. Within 2 minutes, the sky is filled with killstreaks and we're pinned in the spawn. I spend most of the game camping in a corner unable to even leave the spawn. It is like my teammates have never played the game before.
Game is definitely super sweat for me. I only play with friends who are definitely better than me. I played Black Ops 4 for about 20 levels online, and then my previous CoD before that was Black Ops 3 to get an idea of just how often I play. That said, even if I'm being pulled into higher ranked games than my ability, there are still those games where s*** flips in the middle. It will be a questionable match and then all of a sudden it feels good and I go 7-8 kills in a row, then the switch flips and it's back to normal. It's time to give us some damn dedicated servers with higher tick rate.
I checked on My CoD and looks like my lifetime for the game is .88 K/D lol. I do play mostly objective games like Dom though so I guess I shouldn't expect a great K/D when I try to go for objective as much as possible. This game seems to rewards for kills though more than anything. I remember an old CoD (maybe Blops 3?) that had score streaks instead. That seemed a lot better for everyone.Playing with friends will match you based on your highest skill friend, so it makes sense that you're getting crushed.
Even beyond that, I don't think the system works. How are there people getting chopper gunners, and others dying 20+ times, yet I'm always stuck near 1.0?
I think it looks at score per minute too. I shoot down any kill streaks and use the spotter perk to highlight equipment, so I end up with a lot of points even in TDM. I think that's why I constantly end up against people who just have really good FPS skills.
The flaw is that we have no idea how good we are. They should at least tell us a skill tier like bronze, silver, gold, etc so there would be some measure.
I mean, maybe I'm just getting older and playing too aggressively and my skills are declining? Maybe I'm actually in a higher tier and actually doing better?

That was the plan initially, but Xbox is so boring right now and has been for a while. Can't do another year of it.At this point I would have waited and gotten PS5 seeing as it will most likely by fully BC with PS4.
Played a bunch last night struggled to go positive all night and KD dropped. I don’t get it sometimes. Wasn’t doing anything different was getting a lot of hit markers all night even in Hardcore though.
If you have a couple good games in a row, I swear the game decides it is time for you to get crushed. It almost feels like comeback logic in an EA Sports game.
I play a few good games and end up in a lobby with people nailing 180 jump shots halfway across the map.
Plus for me now at least 1 out of 5 games I just get some massive lag bomb where the FPS doesn't even run close to 60. It is completely unplayable and forces me to back out.
I turned off cross play, but then it takes a lot longer to find a match, but the matches seem better overall.
A lot of people are assuming that the skill based matchmaking is paying less attention to ping and causing some lag. Supposedly some youtubers tested this and said it didn't really happen, but who knows.
I feel forced to stick with the best meta loadouts too, as everyone is at the exact same skill, so using a sub-optimal gun means instant death.
It might have also been whiskey for me last night....
Skill based matchmaking is good in theory, but it results in not being able to just screw around and have fun, unless you want you get stomped.
SBMM is great for competitive modes but not so good as the default matchmaking.Skill based matchmaking is good in theory, but it results in not being able to just screw around and have fun, unless you want you get stomped.
Why don’t they just add a ranked section with this matchmaking for those that want the competition.
Also why haven’t they added a vote feature for picking maps. The map rotation last night was horrible.
SBMM as a default matchmaking system doesn't benefit anybody. Halk the fun in online shooters is the randomness of the opposing players. SBMM turns fun into sweatfests. They need to pull some maps out of rotation completely.
The theory behind SBMM is that it protects the noobs and helps them from getting stomped. If you are below average, you suddenly are now closer to even.
So technically half the community benefits from it. That's what people think, but who knows? Maybe they have data on below average players quitting out after bad games or something.
These games are all about player retention now and microtransactions, so they must feel catering to lower skilled players makes them more money.

Even doing that wouldn't help. There are too many variables that govern skill level. There will always be that group that just stomps everybody else. The lower skill a group has the more the obvious the differrence will be. May be they all suck at aiming but a group has better reactions, or better positioning, etc. What they need to do though is have a "noob" tier of matchmaking. Protect the people who are really awful, but just let the rest of the people be in a bigger pool. There are players out there who are so bad they can't even aim. I remember COD4 was my first console FPS game and I was horrible at it. Like 1-20 horrible. I'd camp in the corner and get the drop on someone and still miss my shot and die. Those are the people this benefits.
Youtubers have purposely tanked their games until they end up in these potato lobbies with people literally just learning to move the controller.
For most players though, you're right, the system is awful. It is no fun and there's no incentive to improve. I don't even know if I'm improving or sucking.

Exactly. That's ultimately the flaw in the system. I shoot down a lot of UAVs and get a ton of points with the spotter perk, so I somehow end up in a higher skill tier than I should be. Spotter is basically a wallhack for claymores, so I easily get a ton of points just from it, but it gets measured as "skill".
Obviously too this puts people who camp badly into the higher groups. The guy going 2.0 k/d but sitting in a dark corner only 8 kills a game isn't "good". That person is now forced to camp even harder, because if they run around they are going to get destroyed.
It also encourages people to go into domination and farm kills off objectives.
