Can "Next Gen" BF4 catch "Next Gen" COD in sales?

I actually have a handful of friends who are even bailing on COD for BF4 on present gen consoles this year, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I certainly think / hope BF makes up even more ground on COD with this game than they did with the last. It certainly seems like far more people are interested with it than COD for next gen systems.

The problem between BF4 and CoD is BF4 you have to spend more time to get into it. CoD you can drop in....play a few games and then get out. BF4 isn't like that...the games take longer and most of them take some strategy to get the most fun.

That's it exactly. When I get home from work and have maybe 30-45 minutes to play, I'm not playing Battlefield. It isn't because I don't like the game, but just time. I can jump on COD and play a few quick rounds. In BF it might take me longer to get into a game, and I might end up wasting my whole time in a one-sided game. I end up wasting what is supposed to be my entertainment time in one frustrating game.

BF is also only as fun as the team you are on. Soloing is really tough.

I love the Battlefield series and have played it since the 1942 beta on PC many years back. It is just a different game from COD.

It will be interesting to see how framerate levels the playing field over time. I think it will be a long time before COD falls, but I think eventually with hopefully a good Halo game and some other alternatives that we'll see a more varied FPS game list.

I also hope that should that happen we won't be seeing Acti devs trying to emulate BF to get at their success. Hopefully they'll do something completely new and we'll get a new, fun, solid FPS franchise out of it.

While this is mostly true, I've had more success pugging on PC BF than I ever have trying to pug COD matches. Some nights I'm in the mood to solo PTFO and try to anticipate what my team wants/needs. Other nights I want good solid comms and those nights I treat it like world of warcraft

"LFS to PTFO, KDR BE DAMNDED"

Usually by the end of any game I have a pretty decent squad of 4 with others looking to get in when they see us get "ace squad" ribbons nearly every match.

Call of Duty will probably always reign ahead of Battlefield, saleswise and in realism. Two different formulas. But the pick up and play ease of COD will keep it on top of the sales heap. It's arcade fun shooting. BF is more realistic shooting, but not so much so that it is in a niche market like Operation Flashpoint or ARMA.
