John Cho will topline Cowboy Bebop, Netflix's live-action take on the influential space Western anime, featuring castmembers such as Luke Cage actor Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Alex Hassell.

Alex Garcia Lopez, who has helmed episodes of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Cloak and Dagger, will direct the first two installments of the 10-episode series. Christopher Yost wrote the first episode.

Showrunning and executive producing are Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, the banner behind the shows Limetown, High Fidelity andKnightfall.

Cowboy Bebop is described as "the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of a ragtag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system's most dangerous criminals," working from their spaceship, Bebob.

Cho will play Spike Spiegel, which the streamer has described as "an impossibly cool 'cowboy' (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, pursuing the future's most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma — and deadly Jeet Kune Do."

I've never seen the anime and this looks corny as hell. Is the anime a noir-style series? Major Dick Tracy vibes here.

Wow, surprising it got cancelled so quickly after season 1. It was an admirable attempt to bring the beloved anime to live action and would have liked to see it continue. I really like J. Cho as an actor but he was too old to play Spike. The performance for Fey grew on me and in my mind became the heart of the Beebop and I liked the way they turned Jet into a loveable dad. But a little piece of my soul died when Vicious answered his phone with "moshi, moshi".

And I just read Netflix will try another live action remake of another popular anime with One Piece. If they couldn't get a show with 26 episodes right I don't have confidence in them successfully adapting an anime with over 1000 chapters.

The new show is fine. If they didn't have the names or clothing of the anime it could've been it's own thing that took inspiration from the anime.
It fairs much better if the two are not compared imo
