Got SO tired of bad commercials that are ALWAYS on. (Hurrycane, Zoomies, HeadON, But WAIT!!, Twice the Offer only pay separate S&H!, CALL NOW!!, on and on and on. Every time I turned the channel thinking there's something I wanted to watch.. another commercial. I took all this back to TWC and it's IP based TV (OTA for some local news) from now on! I have Amazon Prime and love the documentaries there. May check out Hulu Plus, but I've heard they have commercials too.

GOOD RIDDANCE!

Yeah, commercials annoy me, too. I like streaming TV services like Roku provides a lot better. They're a hell of a lot cheaper than normal cable TV, that's for sure, and you don't have to deal with constant interruptions with commercials. Some of the channels have occasional commercials, but it's not too bad, usually just a single 30-second ad.

yeah I did it years ago. don't miss the s***. %90 of the time you're just flipping to find something and I can't stand f***ing ads.

I'll look into this in another year. I signed up for a $7-8/mth cable box rental which after 3 years the box is mine to keep with no more monthly fees. Comes up to about $270-300. Still got another year and half to go so I might as well keep doing it as I'm stuck in the contract. I just do basic digital cable for about $35 per month. I get all the main channels I want.

After I ditched Rogers cable internet for an independent, the offer on the phone was a joke.... 15% off to stay with them. No thanks. I even gave them a chance asking what offeres they have thinking they'd have some awesome deal in their back pocket they'd pull out. Nope. So I quit them.

A Rogers guy called me trying to get me to go back. The deal was actually great! If I knew about their last ditch deal beforehand I would have taken it and skipped the independent, but it was too late. They offered me this great deal a month later. Too late guys. I'm already using the independent's service.

The guy tried to give me some goodwill. I balked at his internet offer, but he decided to reduce my cable bill 20 or 30% for a year for the heck of it. No BS either. My monthly bill reflects it.

Do these media hubs or PC software tools only do sports, tv shows and movies?

Or do any of them bypass your local cable network and provide standard tv channels like ABC, Fox, your local city tv channels etc....? Let's say I want to watch CBC Hockey night in Canada or some cheesy Fox Network show, is it a go? Oe what about something like CNN?

If they do allow channel feeds of typical stuff you get with a monthly cable TV package, is it good quality? Or is it just feeds from all those crappy Youtube (or worse) quality free streams you can find on the net at shady sites?

I don't watch sports or live TV but xbmc has both. I would wager the quality it hit n miss being a live stream. I know my kids watch any NBA game live they want on the sports devil add on

Who are you using? I use start for my internet and voip.ms for my voip home phone.

I cut the cord earlier this year, i have my ISP for about 60 bucks a month and use Netflix and XBMC, has me covered for just about everything, but much cheaper.

They have it now if you use internet only from the cable company they will charge you more for less. Also you will soon see Netflix will stop working.
