Might as well make the next gen versions to launch aside the PS5 and XSX now.
Yall don't know how much this put a damper in my day.
I'll eat crow when it comes out but I feel either 2 things happened;
1. The game is in development hell. Or something has gone wrong with development. This is the second release date they've had to push back and I'm not sure they'll make the Nov date. I know CDPR has a history of doing this (see Witcher 3) but somethings up.
2. They want a piece of that next gen money now and are making time to make a launch next gen version.
I would LOVE a behind the scenes developmental diary for this after the game releases. Just to see how all this went down

Yeah, this sucks big-time.
It could also be that CDPR has fallen behind and don't want to add more crunch to their development team. They took a lot of heat when J. Schreier ran his piece on how much overtime CDPR requires from their team. So, perhaps this delay is to alleviate some of that.
We still have Avengers coming in Sept.
To your points, I don't think it is #1 or #2 entirely. I think they felt they could optimize sales if they launched in the new console window and also realized they could use the time for extra refinements. It if was truly in development hell they wouldn't have only pushed it out two months - they would have simply said "holidays 2020".
On the flip side, now that there is a console and a controller, it would be somewhat humorous if the game itself never came out.
Has to be number one. Wasn't this game revealed back in like 2012? That is 8 years.

So the game is going to be enhanced for next-gen consoles at launch and then will get another graphical upgrade in 2021.
Yeah at a certain point I will probably stop buying new games to just wait until I play them for the first time on Series X.
Can't wait for the Night City Wire. I may or may not watch it given that I want to play the game with as few things spoiled as possible.
I've been reading on reddit and resetera how the latest delay killed all the hype for the game. I'm gonna call BS on that. Especially given that internet rage usually doesn't translate to loss sales. ( See TLOU2)
