D & D Dark Alliance 6-22-21

I saw Sacriel playing it yesterday and he seem to be enjoying it. He had the elf and the combat with him looked pretty fluid.

It’s good fun but very unpolished. The archer and the dwarf are my two favourites.

Its a flaw but fun game. I do think there should be AI if you play below 4 players like Vermidtide.

A litte more polish & the game can be great.

It’s not unusual to see the physical sales of new releases skew heavily in favour of PlayStation in the UK, but the emergence of Xbox Game Pass is making the splits ridiculous. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which launched in Britain last week, generated 54 per cent of its boxed copy sales on PS5 and a further 42 per cent on PS4 – that’s 96 per cent in total.

It means that just four per cent of physical copies in the UK were sold on Xbox platforms, an unprecedented split between console families. It is worth reiterating that this reflects boxed sales only – there’s no digital data included here – and the game is included as part of Microsoft’s aforementioned Xbox Game Pass subscription. Reviews, also, have been mixed – although we thought it was pretty good.

Nevertheless, it’s perhaps a sign of things to come as Sony’s primary competitor continues to double down on subscriptions. There’s been some suggestion from the Team of Green that Xbox Game Pass actually increases software sales, and while this isolated example certainly doesn’t contradict that – well, it’s increasingly looking like physical sales may be dominated by PlayStation moving forwards.

I wanted to like Dark Alliance. I played a good bit of it this past week.

They do a poor job at explaining some of the mechanics of the game.

I loathe having to go into a session to do a campaign, especially by yourself. There were times I had to quit because something came up. On Series X, you can pause. On PC, not so much, unless you want it running.

Playing on level 1 is super easy and you could fly through, but the rewards/loot aren't great. Higher up, the loot seems to get better, but combat is more difficult, so you have to stay in the session until you complete it to get any of your rewards. So if you are struggling and something comes up, you are screwed.

Combat is more difficult alone. When I tried to join another session, they were way above in level. So, there's no match making to find someone close to my level.

I've only experienced roughly 4 types of creatures. So the variety is thin.

It was a little hard for me to quit the game, but I did.

They should have IA for the other characters if you solo, like Vermintide. Also some areas took too long. 10mins should be the sweet spot.

Yeah definitely needed a lot more work before releasing. It’s fun to play but it’s hard to overlook the litany of problems it has.
