I really like the setting and weather effects. The lighting is also a real stand out. But holy hell the shooting in this game is sh!t. I can't hit anything at range and unless the target is right in front of me firearms are useless at this early stage of the game.

Yeah, for the first couple hours I thought it was just the PS4 controller that was making if feel 'off' as for shooters I vastly prefer the XBX controller, but after those initial hours, and then seeing some other comments online I realized it was a genuine issue with the game. I saw in the AMA a couple of the devs partook in that their working on a patch that'll include deadzone and sensitivity options as well as inverting options & such, so hopefully that can rectify the wonky shooting mechanics.

One thing I love about Sony's first party games is just how smooth and realized they are. Yeah, technical limitations show up in terms of LOD pop in, shadows moving around and occasional odd lighting effects. But Sonys games still seem to be better in this regard than 95% of the rest of the industry. You have to look farther in the distance to notice imperfections.

Going from Rage 2, which I do really like, to Days Gone is like, " How is Sony this much better technically than everyone else?"

I thought it was just me as well. I played around with the camera sensitivity and it still feels a little input laggy.

Yeah, I think that's one reason the game got knocked in the reviews -- the shooting feelings like sh*t for the first 10 hours or so. I think a lot of reviewers got fed up with that, thinking the devs didn't know what they were doing. Most games start you with guns that work fine but do weak damage, but in Days Gone, the aiming is really wide and unsteady for the first 10 hours or so. Relying on melee is a better option for the early game.

Things will get much better once you get your perk trees filled out, decent weapons unlocked, and your focus upgraded.

The advantage of this design is that progression is real and meaningful. A gun or focus upgrade makes a big difference -- unlike other games, where upgrades in your weapons are matched more or less by upgrades in enemy difficulty. There's a tangible sense of increasing power here, which I like. But it does start you off feeling as if you're a klutz who can't hit the side of a barn.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying the environments in particular. I stopped and just watched a windy rainstorm an hour ago. Made me feel like I was there. And riding the bike never gets old, especially in the mud. vRoom.

Yeah, the bike is one of the highlights of the game for sure, particularly when it's been heavily upgraded. I find that very few games with driving elements control the way I'd like them to cause I really like the idea of controlled drifting, but most open world games the driving aspect is too toned down or just clumsy to have a fluid and responsive enough driving mechanic, so that the bike was such a pillar of the game was nice. If they get the opportunity for a sequel I'd like to see it integrated even more deeply into the gameplay.... used for puzzle solving & such...

This game should not have been released the way it is, if I had paid $30 then I'd be more understanding but I paid the full price. Its in such a bad state technically. I'm about 5-7 hours into it and already ran into some bad bugs and this is after post launch patches. Long loading times, heavy texture pop-in, a bug where I couldn't do damage to the zombies err freakers and a sound loop that combined background sounds with the shriek of a large freaker which was straight nightmare fuel.

I've read some of you guys say how impressed you are with what Bend Studios did with such a small team. Well, I think they needed to hire more developers because they were not up to the task for this large open world game. I'm going to try and push through because I think there's a good game in here I just have to wade through a bunch of BS technical issues to experience it and hope my patience stays strong.

I haven't really had any big bugs, like I said before just the random person stuck in a T pose but nothing anywhere near game breaking at all. The texture pop in isn't awful either, it could be a lot better but it's far from the worst I've ever seen, I agree the initial load is too much though, a long load before you even get to the title screen seems strange. Are you playing on the Pro or a standard PS4? I'm playing on a Pro with an external SSD, not sure if the SSD makes much of a difference here or not. I don't know why we are having such different experiences but it seems that we are.

Oh that sucks, especially the bugs that prevented you being able to do damage and the sound loop bug. I've gotten bugs that create weird sound loops sometimes, too, although nothing that annoying.

Yeah, hang in there. Hopefully you had had a run of bad luck and things will be smoother for you in the future. I tend to be relatively insensitive to this stuff (e.g., my favorite game ever was Morrowind, which was about as buggy as a game could possibly be), but I know they really degrade the experience for some people. Hopefully some of that will clear up for you.

The major bugs like not being able to deal damage or the sound loop were on a session last night. I'm playing on the Pro and hope I just had a convergence of bad luck during a long go with the game. I can deal with some bugs and I can understand how much must go into making it all work together in a large open world game. I'd just like a largely stable experience. I really like the world they created it has a real lived in feel to it and I want to explore more of this game that gives off a cool survival horror feel.

The Bike is awesome.

Yeah sounds like you're having a rough go of it with a multitude of bigger issues. The worst I ever had on my base ps4 was de-synched audio and horrendous frame-rate drops in certain areas, nothing like what you're describing. Hope most of that sorts itself out and you can enjoy the game, but I can't deny that it seems bend bit off a bit more than they could chew with this one. Hopefully it's successful enough though that they're able to expand, bring in some experienced talent and make a proper sequel.

I'm sure it won't matter but have you tried restarting your console?

I had my first weird glitch or bug. I got killed by my motorcycle and Deacon went sliding out of the screen. Lol

A fist fight with an infected bear... hmm.... This is not going to end well.

I'm not liking his chances in that second shot, either, lol.

Haha That was the pose he was in after he got up so I captured it, thought it was funny too.

Stuck the landing:

I really wish that photo mode wasn't disabled during the stealth kill / takedown animations. Always bugs me when photomodes become off limits in specific situations even though we're still 'in game'...

Same here, I don't know if it's because they are cinematic moments or something else but it is annoying when games do that.

I'm more emotionally affected by the story than I expected. There were 3 moments that got me a little verklempt in my last session. Plus a little toxic masculinity. All is well. I wonder where the story will go from here (I've heard it gets overly padded near the end), but I like it so far.

Getting through the Nero checkpoints can be little puzzles in themselves. I like that, too.

I used a swarm to help clear an enemy camp today. That was pretty cool.

I love this game.

I cleared out one military looking camp and afterwatds looked over a cliff behind the camp, I saw hundreds of them bastards. That was a pretty epic and unexpected moment.

Combat isnt as focused as Last of Us or something like that. But it still gets tense and its brutal. I was in some warehouse and there were nests all through that bitch. I made the mistake of firebombing a couple of nests at the same time. Barely made it out. Lol

Yeah the more you play the better it gets overall IMO, I still have a lot of hordes to take out and I'm starting to enjoy that rather than dreading it, it sure does get the heart pumping when a hundred plus of those a******s are chasing you lol.

This was the first horde I ever came across when I started playing the game, went back and took them out easy last night lol, they are one of the smaller ones but this just worked out really well. Couldn't have done this early on because I didn't have this particular weapon unlocked.

Another little gripe about the story. Not a big deal, just something that came off cliche to me. I'm probably a third or maybe halfway through the main story (hard to know), so it'll be a spoiler for those of you who are still early in the game.

I'm talking about the scene where one-handed Boozer beats Deacon's ass, in order to get him to open up about something he doesn't want to talk about. Deacon had gotten his hopes up that Sarah might be alive, but he found out from O'Brien that she is is likely dead. So instead of just accepting that maybe this isn't the time to press him, Boozer (according to the rules of this sort of scene) has to beat the crap out of him, in order to get him to be vulnerable enough to say what happened. Then Deacon chuckles and they're best buds. It seemed cliche, like something I'd seen dozens of times on TV or in movies. I did get a little verklempt, which is probably why writers keep doing this (predictable payoff), but it felt cheap/sentimental, rather than genuine, because I was aware of how cliche it was.

Anyhow, not a big deal, but if you're lactose intolerant, just know that the story does contain some cheese.

Are you using a remote explosive there?

I still haven't taken on my first horde.
