I played for an hour, the game is legitimately terrifying with 3D audio headphones on (make sure you check your in game settings to get the correct mode, mine was set to stereo by default for some reason). Moments when necromorphs are climbing around the vents above you or behind you are that much freakier sounding now, I've jumped in my seat multiple times already. The new lighting and graphics are great in both ray tracing and performance modes, I'm very glad you can switch back and forth between modes at will while playing (and can even see the changes in the graphics / lighting from the pause menu). the HDR has been great so far too, lots of dark blacks and bright lights, which has made for a much "spookier" atmosphere than Callisto Protocol's mostly "greyish" gamma curve. The dark areas where you have to use your flashlight look really cool and feel so much more intense with HDR and the new lighting. The ray tracing mode is really nice looking, but I'm playing on performance mode (which is the default mode) to help with the action.

I was shocked how well I'm remembering certain areas of the ship considering I haven't played this in 15 years! Forgot how addicting all the upgrades are in the game between using nodes and credits, the plasma cutter is already feeling a lot more powerful after a few early upgrades.

The damage model on the enemies is pretty useful in addition to looking cool. You can tell where you've shot and damaged an enemy because chunks of flesh will be blown off where your weapon hit.

Quality mode improves volumetric lighting, ambient occlusion, shadows and some post-processing effects on PS5/XSX. However, these changes are hardly noticeable.
- PC features better textures, anisotropic filtering, shadows and volumetric effects. In any case, the consoles are equivalent to the high PC settings.
- PC Ray-Tracing and PS5/XSX quality modes add a more accurate ambient occlusion of certain elements. Reflections and shadows do not have Ray-Tracing in any version.
- Xbox Series S does not have Ray-Tracing and has some cutbacks in lighting, textures and shadows.
- PS5 has a more aggressive VRS, causing more noticeable artifacts compared to Xbox Series X (minute 2:33).
- Dead Space Remake has one of the best lighting and sound systems I've ever seen. The fact that there is virtually no baked lighting is impressive (and tremendously demanding).
- PS5 has slightly slower load times relative to Xbox Series, though monorail rides last just as long.
- Overall, it's a solid job on all platforms, but Motive's decisions around lighting among other post-processing effects I believe are to blame for the lower resolution on consoles.

Thanks for the pro tip on the audio settings, makes all the difference! The graphics in this game are mind blowing too, so atmospheric and creepy

I've been playing for a couple of hours. Just got off a good game session. I've been taking my time immersing myself in the beautifully crafted environment.

Another tip. There are items that can be hidden behind physical objects. Be sure to melee or use kinetic to disperse them.

I played for 10mins to the first save point. That's the time I have before my weekend activity. Looks decent. I wouldn't say mind-blowing or anything. Played 4K PC at high setting.

The console controls for the menu are annoying though when using mouse/kb. It's NOT hard to have mouse control within the menu ( I know because I managed to do it solo with UI in my own game (while I was still working on it).

There is even a line to follow (press a key/button) for objectives, which I am not complaining.

Oh this game blows. I don't know if it's because I can't figure things out like I used to or it truly blows. I can't figure out how to manual relight engines. The screen says ignition sequence initiated. Please stand by. I've been standing by for 24 hours. I think I'm gonna have to give up gaming.

Do they still give you a hint on where to go when you press in on the stick?

I haven’t finished the original and my memory is crap….I just remember a giant bay?

I've watched those and they don't do crap for me.

Lol@ steam forums. Some people going apes*** over "wokeness" injected in the game. Never noticed it, but it's funny to here complaints about characters in posters being replaced with black people or the addition of gender neutral bathrooms. Then you have the biggest complaint being the character Nicole looking like an "ugly grandma". People are such snowflakes.

Yeah, but that seems pretty forced if true though lol

Also, what's the deal with the rage over gender neutral bathrooms? Didn't that exist in Amerika before? We've had it for as long as I remember.... basically only bars and clubs have separate bathrooms here. Still, kind of forced virtue signaling for a video game dev imo

It's not that bad, really. Nicole looks more like her character in Dead Space 2. She just looks more natural or realistic as opposed to looking like she had botox injections.

Yeah, that doesn't seem like anything tbh, the gender bathrooms and forcing afrikan amerikans into posters seems pretentious af though lol

Had a nice long gaming session with this yesterday. A lot of the new changes and updates (being able to back track around the ship, new side quests, security clearance levels, new weapon abilities, etc.) really make this feel like a new game. I remember certain areas and story moments, but I'm constantly being surprised and not expecting things.

I was exploring a level of the ship that wasn't part of my main quest, unlocked a door and found myself back in a past level area at a door that had been locked when I played that stage. Making the ship interconnected in a "souls-Borne" way was a great idea, and having clearance level locked areas and side quests make it worth your while to back track to prior areas.

Not regretting my purchase, really enjoying this.

Yeah I read that the other day. The Nicole looking like a grandma thing was particularly hilarious. Neckbeards need to go out and meet women. Not all of them are Instagram butt models.

I'm kinda shocked it wasn't added in.

Anyway, I stopped playing at chapter 3 until the first patch comes out. Apparently, the PC version has VRS enabled by default and there is no way to disable it. First patch will add in the option to do that.

The game is more enjoyable than I expected. I am at chapter 2, maybe 30% of the way. The savepoints are well spread so it reduces the annoyance. Like most corridor shooters, the camera is your worst friend.
It's still a survival horror, but ammo is pretty generous so far, at medium difficulties. Medkits are very limited though. Reloading a save for reasons takes a while even on SSD on PC.

I thought you didn't like scary games.
