(... excluding the 'Special' Edition or the 'Collector's Edition' or whatever)

From what I can tell, it seems like every copy of Dead Space 3 - I'm talking the regular/normal/vanilla version here - says 'Limited Edition' on the cover. Seems kind of strange...

Anyone happen to have a copy that doesn't ?

Just curious...

Not sure about DS3, but EA sure likes adding "Limited Edition" to pretty much every game they release. If the game doesn't have it, then that would be the real limited edition of the game.

So you're saying that the regular edition, is the limited edition?

lol, what a complete joke

even checking pictures on eBay, EVERY copy says 'Limited Edition'

this should be considered false advertising or something, just suckering people into pre-ordering

i don't even want a stupid limited edition, i just want a standard/regular/normal version (as all of the other games in my collection are), but it appears that I have no choice

annoying

Are they still making copies of the game? Doubt it. So that makes it true that the edition had a limited run of production. (This doublespeak comes straight from the collectibles market - limited means finite # and not necessarily scarce).

I believe I've sold some that didn't say that on the box. Usually now it's a certain run of copies that say it... Then whatever extra content is removed... Like the infernal helm for Diablo... Most new copies I sell now don't have the code for it included...

I could be in error about the dead space...but I do think I've seen non-limited editions...

Assassin's Creed 3 is another example of games that have limited edition codes.. There were the Gamestop editions.. Then the normal ones that didn't include extra content codes..

That's a new spin on marketing. Make more copies of the Limited Edition game. lol

I'd love it if you could double-check for me and post a screenshot if at all possible, please and thank you mister!

I've seen this happen with plenty of games. "Limited Edition" is just a first run. Sometimes, all standard editions of a game at release will be "Limited Edition", but there will also be the Collector's Edition, which includes all the crap we're used to. The standard / LE will just have some bonus DLC or something that the publisher will stop including after a few weeks or so.

Hey everybody, it's been a while since someone's posted here but I was wondering if anybody has managed to find a North American 'regular' edition of this game for the Xbox 360 since.

I heard from a sales representative at BestBuy that EA Games initially only released 'limited editions' but the game undersold relative to their expectations and because of that they didn't bother releasing a 'normal' edition but that doesn't entirely make sense to me because I'd expect their surplus of 'limited editions' to have run dry by now. I tried contacting EA directly to clarify this story but those lobotomized imbeciles at customer service were no help even after it took me an hour + to contact them.

That being said, can anyone point me in the direction of a 'normal' version or definitively verify that story for me?

For a minute there, I thought you had a copy of Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition which goes for up to $1000+ new on eBay.

I have a sealed "Collectors Edition" that came with the miniature gun...I take it that isn't the "Ultra" but is it worth anything?

Nah it isn't the Ultra Edition, but your is still worth something.
Which version do you have and is it still sealed? Last time I checked, new 360 version went for $70+ more than PS3 version. I think you could easily sell it for $150+ on eBay.

360 version. Wow, I had no idea. It was one of the games on my backlog that I haven't got around to playing yet. Funny thing, I picked it up for $20 at the EA store. Thanks for the info, this may have to go up for sale even if I could get $100.

I bought a fair share of the collector editions of games, is there a website that rates their rarity or is it just best to check ebay for each?

Nice. Check eBay sold listing or Amazon Marketplace for Average Price.

Best time to re-sell it is a month or a couple week before/after the next sequel (Dead Space 4 or whatever) or during the Holidays. Why? DS2 CE will get inflated for more $$$.

Sounds like the holy grail of used video games.

This gen? I would say Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Collector's Edition is the holy grail of video games. Only 200 made and was not sold in stores (given to prize winners or as gifts). I saw one auction on eBay for charity and it was sold for $3300+. Right now you can buy one for $8,000 on eBay and looks like a few buyers bought some at that price range.

I recently completed this game and felt like getting a discussion going about it.

The Dead Space franchise is one of the best of last generation, in my opinion, and I've finally finished the trilogy. While probably the weakest of them, Dead Space 3 is nonetheless an impressive and remarkably satisfying romp through familiar territory, with a few interesting additions.

It never ceases to amaze me how well polished the Dead Space games are. Everything about them just feels right; the movement, the aiming, the speed, the weight, the overall control, not to mention the sound and the graphics. The graphics in 3 were incredible! Some of the best I've seen (granted there are still a lot of games I have yet to play, but still, they're some of the best I'VE seen).

The atmosphere is thick and immersive, the combat fun and interesting. Aiming for different limbs/weak points and using stasis and telekinesis strategically all adds much more substance to other third-person shooters on the market. I liked how there were actually side-missions you could undertake in this one, all of them ending with essentially a giant 'treasure chest' of sorts, with valuable loot inside to collect. It's actually fun to explore every inch of the environments too, scavenging for pick-ups and parts.

Indeed, a new addition with Dead Space 3 is that you now collect different weapon 'parts', with which you can craft unique weapons using different part combinations. This is a neat idea in theory, however the menu system they implemented for crafting wasn't very convenient, I found. This is probably my main complaint about the game; I wish the crafting menu system was more informative and also more streamlined/quicker. I found I was spending way too much time in these menus and would rather just get back to the game. Because of this, I didn't end up experimenting with different crafted weapons all that much, which is a shame. Luckily, you can also find 'blueprints' that will give you an instant part combo for a decent weapon (some of which are returnees from previous DS games, like the Force Gun or Javelin Gun), so you don't always have to fiddle around creating your own combos if you don't want to.

I could say so much more about what I thought was great about the game, like in the early chapters when you are piloting through space between different outposts (just looks so cool), the length of the campaign (took 20 hours for me, with all side-missions completed -- even without doing side-missions it would have been probably like 15 hours), or the greater number of zero-gravity sections compared to the previous entries, which I enjoy very much and are as fun as ever. I even actually liked that the game had some human enemies this time around as they added more variety and 'newness' to the encounters. I can understand why people would be worried about the addition of human enemies, but don't be, because there are barely any human encounters anyways (it's still 90% necromorphs).

For the most part, the game IS classic Dead Space through and through. There are a few sections where it seems to delve into a more linear, shooter-based affair, but the vast majority of time the gameplay remains focused on exploring deserted space stations just as before. Oh, speaking of other potential worries people had, the 'co-op' partner guy is barely ever seen in the single-player campaign. He is there for story stuff, but he's never fighting at your side, so it's not like Resident Evil 5 or something; the experience remains solitary, and quite challenging I might add. Unfortunately though, there aren't many environmental 'puzzles' (or, at least, not many particularly in-depth ones) to solve this time around, which is a bit of a downer, but oh well, the game is still great fun and a wicked ride overall.

Anyways, as a fan of Dead Space I was still really happy to play #3, so to any other DS fans out there, I think you should definitely check it out. It's nowhere near as bad as a lot of the internet made it out to be. It's still up there with the best of the best, imho.

Have you guys played through it yet? If so, share your thoughts! Or to those who have yet to dip in, feel free to ask any questions!

Got to the middle with a friend playing co-op but we lost interest and haven't played again since. The only Dead Space I completed was the first one and that was great.

Almost the same here. I got halfway playing co-op then never finished it.

The best way to express my feelings on DS3 is to say the following:

Dead Space 1 completed: 5 times, twice on the hardest difficulty
Dead Space 2: Completed 7 times, twice on "hardcore". The reason I played this twice more than DS1 was I had a friend and got the achievements for him on his account.
Dead Space 3: As I said, halfway, once.

They did the same thing with DS that RE did to ruin that franchise, they went from creepy, bloody horror to action flick and that's not why I play DS. If I wanted to play a 3rd person action game I have dozens to choose from. I played DS for the horror aspects and DS3 just didn't have that for me.

I don't understand how you guys did'nt finish this on co-op. It was the best co-op game I've played in years and years. Myself and buddy played through the entire game twice. I loved very second of it, expect the awful and I do mean AWFUL ending, which took a bi of the shine off the game overall.

I still need to play through DS3. I really enjoyed 1 and 2. The first one was better with horror. The sheer atmoshpere in that game messes with the player. The second really had cool moments combining action with horror. But as stated before it was less pure of a horror experience.

I have DS3 but I still need to finish it. I'm at an early chapter.

The Fatal Frame games were really good. They're most definitely the creepiest games I've played. Most of the new horror games announced nowadays are first person, so it's a good thing The Evil Within is coming out this year.

As for RE. The less said the better. It's basically an over the top action series now. Leon's campaign in 6 was ok but not even close to what I wanted it to be.

Dead Space is a franchise I never got around to.
Same here, though I'm not too happy about that. I have a feeling I'd really like it, but at the same time I just haven't been able to take the plunge.

I enjoyed 3, but thought 1 and 2 were quite a bit better. I agree that the weapon crafting was quite addicting. The graphics were definitely great, some of the best on the last gen consoles.
