The rumors are real: The long, long, long-awaited Deadwood movie is really, truly in development at HBO.

HBO confirms 'Deadwood' may live again
No less a source than the network’s programming president Michael Lombardo said “it’s going to happen,” TV Line reported at the Television Critics Association’s press tour party in Pasadena on Thursday. Creator David Milch has apparently pitched a story for the profanity filled and critically acclaimed cult-favorite Western’s reunion.

Last August, HBO confirmed early talks of a Deadwood movie, so this has been in the works for awhile. Actor Garret Dillahunt, who played Francis Wolcott on the show, first leaked the news on Twitter.

Deadwood launched in 2004 and starred Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane. The show ran for three seasons before being cut short without a creatively satisfying conclusion. A planned movie was in the works after its cancelation, but eventually fell apart. Ever since the lack of a Deadwood movie gets regularly by HBO subscribers who watched the series as sore point.

At the same TCA event on Thursday night, Lombardo dropped another bombshell by telling EW that Game of Thrones was in talks for a seventh and eighth season. Deadwood star McShane will back on HBO this year playing a mysterious role in Thrones sixth season.

If it isn't the same cast then I do not give a crap. If it is the same cast...

I don't think Milch would move forward with the movie if he couldn't get the original cast back.

Sounds like a load of crap to me.

Are they going to finish up Rome as well?

I'd be interested to see them properly close out Deadwood but I just don't see how it can make sense to bother at this point.

No one believed Twin Peaks would be back after 25 years. It's filming right now.

Finally started watching this. Its good but f*** you for the shoddy lip sync that happens now and then on the BD

Been meaning to watch for years but never did till I saw three box set for £15

One of my favorite shows ever along with some of the most amazing characters. Don't let the fact that it didn't get finished stop you from watching every minute of the 3 seasons.

A lot of people today could use a little of this.

I was a bit let down. Felt rushed. Would have loved to have seen much more.

It would have been best to get multiple parts/episodes but other than that this is about as good as you could hope. It felt like a 2 hour episode almost as if the show never ended and I think that was appropriate for this show.

But yeah 2 hours unfortunately meant a lot of characters just didn't get much time to shine

Loved the series, this is playing tonight on HBO Canada, going to watch it.
