so.....did anyone watch the series finale? Other than all the long drawn out goodbyes i really liked the ending.

Dexter definitely evolved and did what was right.

But Liked I said a few years back the show jumped the shark by season 4 so I didnt expect too much out of this and was mildly surprised. it was a pretty bad season overall but i did like Saxon's character. looks like a couple of my friends LOL

I thought it was terrible.. the last few episodes were filmed like a bad soap opera, acting and storytelling included.

I'm someone who thought Dexter was amazing for 4 Seasons and plenty good enough to be considered good up until partway through Season 8.

They just took the idea of it being remotely believable and threw it all out the window.

- Why was Hannah Mckay making zero attempt to hide her identity? She can't even dye her hair?
- Why did Deb act so non-chalant about the Marshal telling her that someone fitting Hannah Mckay's description was at the hospital and used her address? Why did Hannah Mckay idiotically put down her address in the first place? On what planet do you get medical care at a hospital ER by just writing down an address? Why would it take Elway seeing some shoes in her apartment to get the Marshals to bust in and do a search?
- Why would it take some bounty hunter to alert authorities to her presence at an international terminal? Isn't she a wanted murderer who was just recently assumed to be in Miami? Wouldn't the police have already alerted local airport security even BEFORE they saw the stuff on the computer, let alone after? But she waltzes into the airport ready to board an international flight and only Elway is there to stop her?
- Holy f*** the "we are leaving now, no we aren't.. we are leaving now.. no we aren't" crap was annoying for 2-3 episodes straight.
- LOL at the entire scene where Dex pulls his boat right up to the main dock outside of some sea-side hospital.. WTF, are there hospitals with docks like that anywhere in the world? They knew the storm was coming for days.. and yet they took a gunshot victim to THAT hospital and then last minute they are haphazardly moving people around to the point they don't notice Dexter offing her or taking her body on his boat? lol

The dialog has just been terrible too.. all the emotional crap between Dexter and Hannah was just terrible.. same with Quinn and Deb.. That ambulance scene from the last episode.. LOL.. holy s*** that was bad.

And while I did love the pen scene.. it also had a big "how is Dexter going to be let go after that?" vibe to it.

I have seasons 1-4 on Blu-ray, while I would have loved to buy the sweet looking complete set the last 4 seasons were just terribly average. As for the last episode I hated it, don't know how Dexter was still alive at the end.
Clyde Philips who was the show runner the 1st 4 seasons shared how he would have ended the show and it sounded great.

In the very last scene of the series. Dexter wakes up. And everybody is going to think, ‘Oh, it was a dream.’ And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, ‘No, it’s not a dream.’ Dexter’s opening his eyes and he’s on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary. They’re just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery.

And in the gallery are all the people that Dexter killed—including the Trinity Killer and the Ice Truck Killer (his brother Rudy), LaGuerta who he was responsible killing, Doakes who he’s arguably responsible for, Rita, who he’s arguably responsible for, Lila. All the big deaths, and also whoever the weekly episodic kills were. They are all there.

Garbage. Just terrible. Only good part of it was the pen scene. I mean if you're going to dick us that bad at least give us one last shot of Hannah naked.

It sucked. Not the actual ending but as a whole episode, it sucked. I have no problem with the very end but everything before that was turbul.

All of these plot holes are spot on, but I had to suspend reality back by season 4. Yes, this past season was like a bad soap opera and I was nearly pressing the FF button when all that garbage stuff with Deb telling Dexter what a great person he is.
and yes, the hospital dock scene was a big stretch... It felt like that was written in to stroke the actors ego after their real life divorce....

Really like the ending you mentioned Jay Mammoth. that would have been ...killer! lol

@rankandfile : Yeah I can do a lot of plot hole ignoring and still enjoy something.. but when the holes are the main plot it becomes too much for me to do anything but just make fun of it. None of it made any sense.
I think you are right. I guess I had my dumb glasses on and didnt pick up on a lot of the silliness. Maybe I should watch it again, but I probably won't because it was overall pretty bad.

Extremely disappointing finale. It's ironic that Michael C. Hall has one of the best series finales in Six Feet Under and one of the worst in Dexter. Such a shame too as there was a lot of options to go with and the whole 8th season was just weak. I thought that Season 7 picked things up a bit from a dismal Season 6, but they should have ended 7 with Deb not shooting LaGuerta, but instead telling Dexter to run. Season 8 should have been Dexter on the run the whole time and Deb facing the consequences with letting him go. The finale really dropped the ball by not including anything that made the show what it was, no Harry, no slides, it felt like they just phoned it in. This is especially insulting with how balls to the wall Breaking Bad has been as it ends at around the same time. Just pathetic and sad considering how awesome this show was in the beginning.

Holy s*** did they mail this season in. I wrote better stuff back in high school. Seriously, whomever was paid to write this tripe should give the money back. I always thought the interesting story to tell was Deb finding out. Turns out it wasn't -- at least in their hands.

I'm going to have to make myself watch this abortion of an ending. I just haven't felt the need to sit down and crawl through it. Which is strange because I subjected myself to the entire season.

I didn't think it was as bad as people are making it out to be. In general, yes, the entire the last season was a bit of a let down. The finale though, which is what this thread is about, wasn't that bad. I think they ended Dexter's reign the only way that could really make sense.

All I have to say is that after 8 years, after all Dexter has done, been through, and grown around...the finale was a bit, well, anti-climatic.

The ending was rubbish. The last episode wasn't that great as it is, but man, that ending. Total rubbish.

Dexter has superpowers:laugh: But yeah I was a huge fan all the way through season 4, as soon as Clyde Philips the head writer quit they dropped the ball.

It was definitely on a downward slope alright. It seems to me that they didn't know how to end it in terms of story.

They should have asked Clyde Philips if he would come back for the last season, his idea for the finale sounded waaay better.

Was that the dream thing? Honestly don't think that would have been good. It's very cliché . Personally for me I wanted to see one of two things. He completely realises he's a mass murderer and atones for his ways (not sure what that would be exactly). Or, he finds peace and moves on with his life, living the rest of his life under the responsibility of what he has done.

Instead we got a scooby doo where we ago again ending.

Phillip's vague ending would have been a good direction to head but it would need to be fleshed out much more. I wouldn't have had everyone he killed there. I would have been ok with him in the electric chair but the final scene would have needed to have a far better final season or two. You can't just throw it out there. There would have needed to be some lead up hinting to it. There wasn't any there to support Phillip's ending.

What's the chance they come out with a one-shot 2 hour episode sometime for a real series finale? Just give us something for crying out loud. 2 hours of a naked Hannah is fine with me. With the Australian accent as well please.

From a story point of view I don't think it was ever practical that he got caught. The entire police department he worked with would have ended up under investigation, suspended or whatever.

It was all there for Deb to kill him, but they decided not to. It was all there for Hannah to take him out, but they decided not to.

The finale for me just lacked impact or drama all round. You think back to Rita's death in season 4 and compare that to Debs in this, and Debs is just meh. The Ending also goes against pretty much everything they have been building for since season 5. That is that Dexter is more and can have more. I think this show got killed and the writers simply had to rush the ending.

I find this to be the only reason the finale we got wasn't that good. The whole season wasn't good enough to make it meaningful enough.
