Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, will launch on Nov. 12 for $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, the company confirmed on Thursday.

Disney’s Kevin Mayer, head of the company’s direct-to-consumer unit, gave investors their first look at the Disney+ app and interface. Similar to Netflix, Disney+ users are greeted by rows of recommended content, new TV series or movies added to the platform, and genres. Unlike Netflix, there are five hubs that sit at the top of the page, which will bring users to designated areas for Disney’s various franchises: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

Disney+ will be available to stream through smart TVs, web browsers, on tablets and mobile devices, and game consoles, according to Mayer. The streaming service has already secured deals with Roku and Sony for availability on their respective platforms.

Disney+ subscribers will be able to set up individual profiles for those they live with; parental controls will automatically be applied for child profiles. All Disney+ content will be available for offline download, and the company is promising 4K HDR presentation where applicable on TVs.

https://io9.gizmodo.com/kevin-feige-discusses-wandavision-and-the-falcon-and-th-1833985580

Feige emphasized how series featuring the Scarlet Witch, the Vision, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier will have significant impacts on the larger MCU:

“These shows will be on the same level of quality that you’d come to expect from Marvel Studios. They will be taking advantage of that creative freedom that Disney+ offers exploring the MCU, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with our favorite characters over multiple episodes. These will be both new and continuing stories, and one of the things we’re most excited about is that these will be major storylines set in the MCU with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we’re producing and are features on the big screen.”

Feige wasted no time during his presentation and got right down to the business of announcing that Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s spinoff series is to be titled WandaVision that will tell “a story that is unexpected and surprising” that couldn’t be told as a mere subplot within a larger film. Feige continued be describing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (which Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are both reprising their roles for) as a series that’ll explore the supporting heroes’ lives outside of their time with the Avengers.

But the Disney+ series’ connections to the MCU won’t only be grounded in the realm of hard set realities. Feige went on to lay out Marvel’s vision for its upcoming What If?animated series that’ll explore a number of alternate timelines in which pivotal moments from the MCU played out differently:

“For instance, our first episode will ask the questions: what if Peggy Carter was the one who became a super soldier and what if Steve Rogers stayed a scrawny, young kid but joined the fight with an armored suit built by Howard Stark? This gives you the sense of how he plan to explore the MCU and fresh and exciting ways in the series. in addition new and returning cast members will be lending their voice to their animated counterparts.”

$6.99 monthly or $69.99 yearly is much less than I expected.

Might give this a test run, especially if they bring all that Fox content over. Have a massively massive library to rotate here.

With them owning Fox they now have rights/access to the original/theatrical versions of the og trilogy (before Lucas added new cgi/scenes)

When the Mandalorian comes out I'll consider getting it.

Not really anything I'm interested at this point, although I've heard talk of possible bundles. I already have Hulu Live and ESPN+ so if there was a deal to combine all of them then it might be worth it.

$6.99 is not a bad price if you just want to join certain series start. Gonna hold out for when the Mandalorian is out to get on the free trial though.

The problem isn't really the cost, but just adding another one of these on top of the rest. Netflix, Amazon, now Disney, individually they are all pretty cheap but they add up. There's only so many hours in the day and few of them where I can actually watch TV.

Supposedly there's no support for Fire Stick (yet). I'll probably get it for Mandalorian at least but we'll see.

Most definitely. It’s getting to be just like cable but in the “app” space. It’s funking ridiculous that just about any and every content owner has their own app now.

I still pay for cable too because it is the only way to get local sports :(

Hulu with live TV or sling should do that too (those are the ones I've used, but probably the psvue or youtube ones might work also).

Eh, don't pay for one service for one month or two. Easy fix. There's no rule that says you need all services simultaneously. I see this as a good problem personally.

Does anyone know if there will be Xbox and PS apps for this? I assume so. I don't have a smart TV so my game consoles are my best option to watch.

I try googling and all I get is some old article just speculating. Has anyone preordered and gotten more info?
