I have some games where I got 1/4 in, or maybe 1/2 in and for whatever reason stopped playing. Usually it was something else new I moved on to.

But now I want to pick the game back up months later and am faced with the decision to continue my save where I left off or restart the game completely.

I am finding almost always I end up restarting to either reaquaint with the story and more impotantly the controls as I get frustrated starting where I left off having lost my skills at that level.

Thinking about it I have even restarted games I was like 90% complete.

Do you redo unfinished games back to the start?

Depends on how long it's been since I played. If I can pick it back up and play without having to relearn controls or catch back up with the story, then I'll start where I left off. But games like Witcher 3, where I've completely forgotten what's going on, then, yeah, I'll start over. It also depends on if I want to commit to replaying everything over again.

I'm trying very hard to not start a new game until I've finished ones I am already far into. I find it harder to pick up a game in the middle after a long break.

Depends I suppose. Mostly recent example for me is MKX. Beat the story on PS4, then at some point started the story again Xbox but only got about 3/4 done. Since I already beat it I just picked it up where I left off to get my achievement. I played maybe 10 hours in Bloodborne and gave up, and it's been almost a year so if I go back to it I'll start over.

My goodness so many redos on so many games. Resident Evil was my worse. Would get almost all the way done, and just start all over.

If the story is important, I'll start over, because too much time has gone by and I've forgotten what's going on. If it's a game where story isn't important, I'll just forge ahead. I can learn the controls again as I go.

It doesn't happen very often, though. Most of the time, if I quit a game halfway through, it's because I'm bored or fed up with it somehow, and I never return.

p.s. Of course, I'll play a few hours into a big RPG and then re-start several times, but I consider that just part of the process of picking my character.

That is a good point and I have been trying harder and harder to stick a game out to the end. I was able to play all the way through Tomb Raider without touching my copy of Fallout4. Took some discipline but glad I did that.

It is more difficult on indie games, especially platformers. I will get pissed off stuck on some level and go to another game to cool down and then months later realize I've forgotten about the previous title and wish I hadn't. I am less than halfway through Ori and the accolades for that game have me wondering why I didn't stick it out. Same with Valiant Hearts, Tearaway Unfolded, and a few others.

It is hard, because we all hit that wall with some games, and you certainly need to stop if it stops being fun. I also try to avoid games that get described as harder and frustrating. Some people love the challenge, and that's cool. I know for me it is going to fluster me and I avoid those games.

Mostly in Splinter Cell: CONVICTION to experiment with how many ways I could get through different stages. Sometimes I'd redo a stage and stealth everything, and sometimes I'd push people off balconies so they landed right on top of other people. Basically, f***ing with the enemies watching them freakout and seeing how much s*** I could get away with.

I do this often with kotor and mass effect. I'll do it again if I ever have the time and motivation to play dragon age 1.

I've also done it with thief, but that's a complicated situation due to being previously on only my original xbox, before I got it on my computer, which forces such a redo anyway. I really have to finish some of these..

I rarely start over if it's a game I haven't beat yet. I don't have enough time as it is.

I try not to mess around and take the quickest path to getting all achievements/trophies. So a lot of times i'll have to start a new game but i don't mind it. Just starting a game and then deciding to quit midway through and restart though? I don't remember the last time i've done that, or why i would do that. If i start a game, it's because i plan on playing all the way through it and usually do.

Oh yeah, i did it with Final Fantasy XI but that's an MMO. Got like 20 hours into the game and decided i didn't like my character so i restarted, which is crazy considering how much time goes into a game like that. But i figured, i'm going to be playing this game for years to come, so i better get it right.

Depends on the game/length of time!

If its a long ass game, like a fallout or skyrim, I'll normally just keep going. If its a shooter and I haven't played for weeks, ill restart.

Once I finally get around to CoD again, I'll have to restart that.
