Does anyone drink or has tried absinthe?

Never tried it but had a friend who drank it as his go to drink for drinking. Ive always been under the impression that its more so the high alcohol content that gets you rather than the wormwood. But cant say from experience. Post back soon!

Although I almost got a bottle for my 21st birthday...

Yep, I have had a few different kinds.

can't tell you the brand names, all I remember that they weren't in English.

strong as f*** too. Pretty sure they were 150+ proof.

Meh, can't say I have any desire for it. Maybe if I come across it at a party or something, but I really don't have any plans to ever buy it.

It will f*** you up like it did Vincent Van Gogh when he chopped off his ear and mailed it to a whore.

It tastes like licorice and you need to pour it properly. It will mess you up but don't buy a $60 knock off. If you live in Seattle I can get you an imported bottle for like $100, with no profit of my own; a buddy of mine get some from England every now and again.

Forgot to mention! Yes, there is a specific way drink it. Some of it being for show (like lighting the sugar cube on fire). But your suppose to buy all sorts of special spoons and glasses to drink it properly by Absinthe snobs. Essentially you place a sugar cube on strainer, pour a shot of absinthe over it, light the sugar cube on fire, put it out with a shot of ice water, stir and enjoy. I think lighting the sugar on fire gives is suppose to give it a caramelized flavor.

Had it at a buddy's house, it was pretty awful. Of course, I really hate the taste of black licorice. Will not be having it again!

I've tried it. I have some 87% volume Estonian vodka in the freezer at the moment though, and that sh*t knocks the pants off absynthe.

The below chart can be used for clarification:

good absinthe isn't really about alchohol content apparently, its about the wormwood (or % thujon *sp) used which, in large doses acts like hallucinogen. The more the % thujon the bottle has , the less you need to ingest to see that "little green fairy". and this is why you cant get good absinthe in the US. you need to import it.

Yup. And I can't say I enjoyed. That s*** is poison...literally. Stick to your regular spirits.

Almost forgot! One specific time we decided to see despicable me in 3D after drinking it (I live in the same complex as a movie theatre) and well BAD idea. We were all tripping balls. So second thought, I'm def gonna do that again.

the first time i got drunk as a kid i took 4 shots of absinthe (along with some other high-percentage brews). it obliterated me, and i'm pretty sure it was what put me off alcohol throughout my teens, and it's definitely what created my mental allergy of liquorice
