Can anyone that understands this stuff explain a bit more..? Will one be better than the other, realistically? Will it matter for gaming?

So, what this means is that HDR10+ is the open format catching up, but Dolby Vision will remain the preferred enthusiast format.

Two major things with DV that are different from plain HDR10. The first is the fact that DV is 12 bit color, while HDR10 is... well,10. The second is the dynamic metadata that passes your display information back and forth, making the image look the best it can be. Dolby Vision is a premium technology and there is a licensing fee involved.

HDR10+ adds the metadata layer to the open HDR10 format. Some companies are not happy with features basically being held hostage.

One of Dolby Vision's major attributes is that it was designed to be future-proof. Signals are compressed and uncompressed at both ends, meaning that only HDMI 1.4 was required to transmit a signal that is actually very robust. It's claimed that 12 bits can actually handle 68 billion colors vs just 1 billion over 10 bit. Also, peak brightness of DV is a whopping 10,000 nits. Most displays are like 1,000 or so, and most movies are mastered at around 4,000. Again, future-proof.

If the streaming services start supporting HDR, does that make the file sizes of the movies larger?

A HDR enabled Blu-ray will still work with non-hdr TV's and stuff, yeah?

DV is where its @ Samsuck needs to get on the bandwagon and stop making subpar tech.
