Drive Club discussion

I want to see some multiplayer of DC, looking forward to that. I hope they can hit 60fps with this game, I'm not a huge frame counter, obviously higher is better, but with a racing game 60fps is really needed, 30fps even locked feels pretty rough. My guess is they will have 60fps but with drops down in the 50s, which is fine, better than 30fps

When you say taking "everything" into account do you mean graphically only? Forza 5 may not have the eye candy of the other racers but it certainly has a lot going on in the physics, telemetry, liveries, car/cockpit/engine detail, and sounds.

Visuals are great for a racing game but for me the real meat is how the vehicles handle which I haven't seen much details given on that yet for all the racers.

In a game like need for speed being "realistic" isn't really that important, honestly I think that's all overblown in games in general anyway. I have yet to play a racing game where the cars handle realistically and honestly if it did I'd probably be bored out of my mind with it in 10 minutes. I think both F5 and DC are a bit bland and boring to look at, NFS has a nice level of fidelity and there is more going on during the game.

A good sim model let's you know that the cars in the game will handle more consistently, and that is a great thing in itself EVEN if it doesn't really match up exactly to being a fun result in a videogame. Games like NFS can be much more exciting, but it depends ultimately on how they build the driving model. I loved NFS: Most Wanted that came out at 360 launch. I love Burnout series in general. However, NFS: Most Wanted that came out recently by Criterion was just horrible in car handling and all the greatest graphics in the world couldn't help that.

So it's a tricky road. Trusted sim franchises let you know for the most part what you are getting up front if you have been with that series. Arcade racers can vary wildly from game to game even within the same series which makes them riskier.

Either way I think we are in agreement. Both games are going to be fun for their own reasons. I have the most hours of any game played on the 360 put into the Forza series so we'll see if DriveClub can match that.

It's the PS4 game to have at launch IMO. It looks fun as heck.

agreed, if i were getting the PS4 at launch, this would be on my short list of to get titles.
Being that you can be up and running for free thanks to PSN+, it really is a no brainer as if you don't like it you only invested the time to DL it. Sony should preload it on the PS4 to minimize even that.

I actually have a launch day PS4 on reserve.. but finances aren't going to permit me to get it. I will hold onto it until the absolute last day I can cancel, just in case a bucket of money falls into my lap.

DriveClub Right Now is “Running at 1080p@30fps”, Delay Statement Had Nothing to do With Watch Dogs

delay from PS4 launch to early 2014, with the DriveClub Facebook page offering up this status update on where the game is now:

At this stage the game is running at 1080p@30fps, which at face value really defies how fluid it feels and how stunning it looks. We’ll be recording another direct feed video for you soon, to show you an update on the outstanding 1080p graphics and racing, because the authentic and dynamic lighting system has come a long way since you saw it last.

When it comes to narrowing down the DriveClub release date to more than ‘early 2014′ they said, “There are many things that need to be confirmed before we can be more specific.”

As well, a commenter asked if the Watch Dogs delay triggered their own statement regarding the delay, to which they replied, “No, the timing of this statement is based on Evolution and SCE Worldwide Studios reaching a decision on the best course of action to take to ensure that we provide you with an exciting racing game.”

There currently no console games in this genre with such beautiful environments.

Looks really good in way under-rez gif'd form... I'm not as impressed at actual 1080p myself.. seen it in person and it was underwhelming.

Still hoping for the best but I am not expecting to be blown away by the final product.

At least it will look beautiful streaming to the Vita.

Just kidding. It's looking better and better each time they show it off.

That was a while back when you saw it and there is at least two more months before it comes out.
