Drive Club discussion

The lighting in DC looks fantastic.

1. I love the way the road magically lights up when turning the corner, when the path of light from the sunset should have lit the road the whole time in this view.

2. And for me, I like my racers looking dark, brown and grey. The way I like my military shooters.

But look at, I mean look at, that damn cartoony display and lack of track side detail that is Forza in the gif above.

All things and comparison aside, DC looks fine. Hopefully it will fill some need that is missing between sim and arcade, perhaps a true spiritual brother to PGR.

I disagree. I think that bonfire on the side of the road beats out all the F5 track side detail combined.

I'm glad this place is just the same as TXB with Xboners trolling everything again.

i love how forza looks like a pixar movie? is that forza or cars 3?

I actually think that the Forza developers mentioned that Pixar's lighting was in fact an influence on Forza 5's lighting system.

At least I think I remember reading that?

Comparing those two DC looks much more natural, I've said all along I think DC looks more real and F5 looks more like a pretty video game, well a mostly pretty video game, the trees look terrible in Forza 5.

I don't know. The cars and the tracks themselves could really go either way. Forza definitely goes for a more cartoony vibe, while DriveClub goes with slightly more muted colors but the environments themselves I think DriveClub wins hands down. The lighting and the foliage/roadside detail is just amazing in DriveClub. Forza is pretty weak in that regard.

Well I guess that about settles that question.

Yeah....but isn't one running at 30 and the other at 60fps?

IMO just what I've noticed dc looks great, now it has nothing going on just off the track like what Forza5 has. With that I have to give the nod to f5 especially if it is @ 60fps

There are advantages to locking your game at 30 apparently.

It's like driving through Crysis.

That pic looks sweet! Only thing that is off is the maserati wouldn't be infront of the pagani evah!!!

Most parts of F5 I've seen show very little off the track, there are a lot of empty areas in that game.

I was strictly talking about the gifs you quoted post #70. f5 is in a city with multiple buildings & spectators. I've only seen footage with not to many things going on just off the tracks for DC. The pic in the forest above has the most things i've seen yet for dc. I can't call out either as hands down the superior game graphically like so many can do so easily.

I've stated it many times that I don't care about 30fps vs 60fps. Both are fine to me. I do think that when it comes to the overall racing experience, forza is going to be better that DC. Haven't been sold on which game has better graphics yet.

To be fair, most race tracks are pretty barren. Two different types of racing games to even make that comparison.

Oh I know, that's why I've said a few times I think NFS looks better than both of these games. It has so much more going on including weather effects so while it may not look quite as pretty in screen shots I think when everything is taken into account it's the more impressive looking game all around.

1080/60 for me, but if I had to chose I would take the higher resolution and a locked in 30fps. I think Forza will be a more solid game as well only because I guess I'm more familiar with that dev and have more faith. That said, I'm glad there will be both a sim and more arcade style racing game available. Just will be a while before I get an X1...

DC looks great to me. It will be my first title for the PS4 when I get it. Granted, it doesn't look at realistic as F5 (DC looks arcadey/cartoony), it's not supposed to be as realistic either. People are comparing the best racing sim on console to a new arcade racer that we haven't even played yet?

Funny you say that because other people say Forza 5 looks cartoony lol.

No, I said that because it looks that way to me, based on what I have seen so far compared to other games. Though their CGI looks good.

Considering one recreates real race tracks and the other has free reign on their tracks, I would hope DC has more interesting vistas to drive through. F5 is a sim and people want to race real world tracks, scenery and all. However, they do have the city tracks to add variations.

Either way I think we are in agreement. Both games are going to be fun for their own reasons. I have the most hours of any game played on the 360 put into the Forza series so we'll see if DriveClub can match that.

When you say taking "everything" into account do you mean graphically only? Forza 5 may not have the eye candy of the other racers but it certainly has a lot going on in the physics, telemetry, liveries, car/cockpit/engine detail, and sounds.

Visuals are great for a racing game but for me the real meat is how the vehicles handle which I haven't seen much details given on that yet for all the racers.

Driveclub just keeps looking better and better. Should be a lot of fun to play. Evolution creates really fun games and the Motorstorm series was fantastic.
