Dune *SPOILERS!

I loved David Lynch's version.

Just watched the latest trailer and don’t know why but still not excited one bit.
I LOVE sci fi and fantasy but not sure if it’s the casting choices, the world, the setting etc but nothing is screaming ‘watch me’
maybe because it’s been hyped so much and people are saying how amazing it is.
Will def wait until it hits prime or Netflix……

I watched the final trailer. I haven't been following any of the news, if any. This isn't a trilogy is it?

I saw the tag for next Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, which I think is stupid, but got me asking if they are stretching this out. Then at the end Zendaya says only the beginning. I know it's vague, but just led more thinking to being a trilogy.

I hope not. I know it can be a lengthy movie, but it can be only 1 film. I'm also ignorant on the book. I'm sure there can be more books and more stories told, but going off Lynch's movie. Long, but 1 movie.

Well, figure I'd answer my own question.

They split the book in two. It was a questionable move even if they had the go ahead already which they don't.

You're saying the movie is only half of the first book? Disappointing, but I've read the book (only the first) so while usually I'd be pissed to watch only half of something, at least I'm already familiar with the story.

Yeah. They say they could start shooting the sequel end of next year if it gets the green light.

Movie was excellent. It is very faithful to the book. While it only covered the first half of the book in the movie that gave Lisa of room to fill out the story.

I like the Lynch version, mainly because it has the internal monologues of the characters. The TV mini-series version was a bit too cheesy for me.

The 2021 version is outstanding with its tremendous presentation of scale, and the way technology is displayed in the universe. The acting is superb as well; the acting helps make up for the lack of the internal monologues.

I might have some time to watch it this weekend. Wish I wasn’t say busy lately, impressions have been very positive and those that don’t care for it seem to just not get into this kinda sci-fi, this it’s boring, drawn out, and mad they saving more for other projects… so probably wasn’t no pleasing those viewers anyway.

After watching the film I have so many things I’m curious about in this universe and questions. Afraid to look some of them up and then spoiling upcoming things in the story.

im on book three or four at the moment. Ask away. The film covers about half way through book one.

Mainly just how things work in this universe. How space travel works, what humans have discovered, alien life?, does this take place in the Milky Way galaxy or does it span multiple galaxies, the thousands of years of history before this, etc…

I've only read book one should I bother with the others? My understanding is there is one direct sequel book and then some random other stuff like Children of Dune or something. I figured at least reading Messiah would be worth it especially if they do a third movie just based on that.

All of the first 4 are worth ready and any of them could be good end points if you wanted to stop even they though they are direct continuations.

The books go way WAY out there. Another ten thousand years passed by the third or fourth one. They can be a struggle in places but the whole concept is completely crazy and worth sticking with.
