Xbox Rumors and Speculation

I’m ok if they buy more studios that are further apart, physically, just so they don’t consolidate them later down in time. Are there any good ones in San Diego

I believe Microsoft is looking Internationally now. At least that's where the smoke has been. Spencer has also alluded to it on a few occasions and Microsoft people have been visiting studios in Poland and Japan. If not a buy-out, expect new 2nd party relationships.

It was also said they'd slow down purchases for awhile in order to focus on the studios they already own. I think people are generally over-looking the importance of the talent they've added in the past 2 years. Some of those AA purchases are looking like they're on their way to being AAA studios.

I don't know why we are supposed to root for them to buy so many more studios. They are in pretty good shape right now.

Get used to it. Content wars are on. Platforms want to lock in talent and protect exclusive IPs. As AAA gaming significantly expands beyond consoles, exclusives will be more important than at any other point. There's nothing wrong with it. These aren't hostile take-overs. The influx of money and increased competition for exclusives is empowering creatives and resulting in Indies growing and more studios starting up. So even though consumers see their favorite platform losing a studio, the reality is all platforms will have more content than last gen when most studios were multiplatform. At a micro level, gamers will cry about losing games and studios to other platforms but at a macro level all the major surviving platforms will be better due to the content wars.

Microsoft will grab someone in Poland. It's an easy bet. Spencer has said he wants to expand to other territories outside of where they already have a presence. They were there last year. Bloober seems to fit the type of studios they've been grabbing and there is a good relationship already.

The intriguing thing about Poland is no matter who you grab, you'll be able to recruit heavily. In addition to having a lot of talent, Polish talent per capita is much cheaper than any other regions Microsoft is in. If they grabbed any top end leadership, they build a smaller studio into a AAA studio within a couple years.

Techland ruled themselves out already. Don't think its them.

And Techland. Both of these would be huge!

Techland would be great especially if Microsoft wanted another big studio. Price wise, they won't get a more talented big studio for less. They'd be very cost effective. Techland shut down the rumor and that's something I wouldn't expect if there were actual talks.

Bloober seems to fit with a lot of Microsoft's purchases. Indie studio who's now able to produce AA quality and has unrealized potential with more support and manpower. Horror games seem to be the one genre that does well in both the East and West. Assuming Spencer is serious about content that appeals out East, I could see them leaning a bit more into horror...although they'll have to do better localizing next gen.

Didn't obsidian shut down rumors prior to acquisition?

I would be totally surprised if it was Techland. Bloober seems the obvious choice. However, there are supposedly a few "mic drop" moments in this July show. We'll know soon enough.

Looking like it'll be Bloober.

This is a rough translation from Resetera.

Bloober might be most likely to be bought. According to this communicate https://www.bankier.pl/wiadomosc/BL...rocesie-M-A-dla-Bloober-Team-S-A-7900607.html (sorry it's in Polish), they have picked a short list of advisers for M&A process (M&A is merger and acquisition) and already have 3 companies from US, 2 companies from Poland and 1 from UK in pipeline."

Supposedly Bloober is a public company. Didnt realize that. Usually Microsoft doesn't try to buy publicly owned companies so now I'm less sure how to bet.
