Ubisoft was about as bad as any show could possibly be
I disagree, they are generally better than they were this year but I thought Watch Dogs looked great. A lot of legacy content for older games they are still supporting though which isn't all that exciting unless you already own those games.

That Ubi presser was cringe worthy. The fake hype made me sick and easily the worst presser I've seen at E3 in years.

I didn't see it. They've actually been pretty solid the past year in terms of games and stuff, so I imagine they had to realize that and find some way to screw it up.

The games were overshadowed by bad PR. Nothing shown was really all that exciting either, trailers on top of trailers and we know how Ubi handles those.

I didn't get why they did the Ass Creed symphony as if there is any recognizable theme from the game...

I only caught a bit of Ubisoft but they just showed a lot of stuff that is already out? They were showing Rainbow 6 operators that are already out on the public test server and come out tomorrow. It isn't like they are "breaking" any news.

The Ubi conference is getting low grades in a poll at GAF, with nearly 90% of the people giving it a D or F. I guess I didn't miss much. Actually, I haven't watched any of the shows this E3, and I don't feel like I've missed much. Maybe Squeenix will be different, but I'm not holding my breath. It's been a low-ebb year for E3.

It wasn't as good as they usually are, Watch Dogs was the only really impressive thing they showed that's new, well that and the new Ghost Recon.

Problem is we are far away enough and too close to next gen all at the same time if that makes sense.

Like we are too close to next gen for there to be a lot of current context coming out, but the new hardware is far enough out that a lot of games can’t be shown because dev kits are barely with all studios.

So we are getting a lot of trailers and companies are calling it a night.

They really blew the Avengers reveal. Terrible.
The "in engine" trailer looked great but it wasn't gameplay, they had all that time on stage and gave us 45 seconds of what the game actually looks like, which to be fair looked pretty good but there wasn't much to it.

Besides Pokémon, not really, Metroid I guess...
Not too optimistic about seeing Prime 4 since development had to be restarted but a 2D Metroid seems very possible

I wouldn't expect Nintendo to blow anyones minds but it should be good

I didn't watch so I'm out the loop. what was this years "part of ubi segment that no one asked for and drags on way too long"?

besides the whole thing. Usually it's when they introduce the newest just dance and have some pop star lip synch and jump around for a half hour.

Sounds like the Square-Enix show was a good one. It's averaging about a B in polling, which is better than any other show so far. Of course, the S-E crowd is a bit niche, with a lot of focus on Japanese games. Sounds like FFVII-R was very well received.

So I haven't been really paying all that much attention to E3 (and games in general really), what games are looking like the must haves this year?

This is really the last year before the big next gen ramp up next year. Things are pretty thin unless there's something you're really interested in. Especially for things definitely coming in 2019 (most of the good stuff is 2020). Gears, the new Star Wars game, Death Stranding?. I'm sure there's stuff I'm missing and smaller games, but honestly I could see myself only buying a couple of games for the rest of the year and focusing on backlog.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something, but I'm not sure what the big fall release this year is?

Could see Rare Replay being announced for Switch.

With Goldeneye HD added (and coming to the Xbox version)

Here are the big ones on my list:

  • Outer Worlds Oct. 25
  • Death Stranding Nov. 9

Control is supposed to be out in 2019, but I haven't heard a release date announced yet, so that might slip to 2020. The next Gears is coming out, if you're into that.

I've also got my eye on these AA-type games:

  • Judgement, June 25
  • Man of Medan, Aug 30
  • Ancestors A Humankind Odyssey, December

That's my taste, of course. There are probably other games coming out that I'm just not paying attention to, because I don't care.

One weird thing about this E3 -- I usually come out of E3 with 5 or 6 new games to add to my list of "Games of Interest," but this E3, I've added exactly zero. Nothing new of interest.

To be fair, I'm guessing having the rights to an Avengers game doesn't necessarily get you the rights to the actual actors looks.
