Eidos could potentially create Final Fantasy XVI

Square just isn't the company it used to be. It used to be that you saw "Squaresoft" on a game package, and you knew you were getting a quality product. This was back when the Playstation was the must-have console. And Square had this uniform packaging with a white background behind the cover illustration.

The uniformity of covers was a result of EA Square.

When I think of Squaresoft, my mind immediately jumps to SNES. Yours to PSX, generational gap?

Ha ha, no. It's definitely not that. I'm 33. It's just a matter of uniform package design sticking out in my mind more than the varied SNES box art. The PS Square titles were arguably Squaresoft's golden age.

For me the PS2 was the highlight of SE. Really for just one game in particular: Dragon Quest 8

I feel like they should test the waters first, see the fan reaction. Fans can be filled with a ton of piss and vinegar when it comes to this stuff and it'd be best if they had a small scale game to work with to sort of show what they can do. For me though, I'm definitely excited to see what the end result will be. FF has been in need of a serious shake-up as the whole series has just come across as stagnant and not the industry grabbing series it once was.

I would have to disagree with you. While Square released more titles in the west due to EA's publishing clout during this era, I don't think the quality of their software kept up with the quantity.

Then again I thought that the Final Fantasy series has only gotten progressively worse since Final Fantasy 7, but that is where I sit. For me, the PSX only has Einhander and Final Fantasy Tactics as stand outs. During this time, with the popularity of the JRPG skyrocketing due to the insane success of Final Fantasy 7, I looked outside of Square for my RPG fix.

But I see what you are saying. I would say the Super Nintendo produced some of their strongest titles. It is a shame they haven't updated FFVI properly outside of the GBA version. Maybe one day it will either get a remake or a expanded universe like FF7. Oh well, at least FF15 looks... interesting.

And Dragon Quest 8 is absolute brilliance.

A fan of dragon trivia I see. Crazy that there's enough dragon info to span across eight games.
lol, wish I could stay stupid autocorrect, but that was typed on a normal keyboard. No idea why I wrote that

Man,I remember how excited I was when I first saw this:

Of course eventually we found out that FF8 is an insipid, boring as all Hell affair...

Hope you don't mind me correcting your post. But I'd like to see some new blood take on the FF series, if only because recent developments don't inspire great confidence in old blood. (Disclaimer: I played XIII, not the sequel, or likely the sequel to the sequel or the future re-imaging of the sequel).

I'll give them credit for experimenting with a new spell system in FF8. But I just wasn't a fan. Thankfully they got back on track with FFIX and X.

VII through IX was where I really lived the FF series. I concur entirely that the spell draw/junction system in VIII was godawful, and Squall was painful as a lead character - worse than Cloud, even. But I think of those games, VIII had the best story, though I may be one of less than 1% of people who have played them all to believe that. Really a shame that the battle mechanics were such donkey spittle.

Lol, I thought I was being critical. Yeah though, putting a franchise in the hands of someone else doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. I know many were pretty pleased with what they played in Bloodrayne Betrayal for instance, being developed by Japanese dev, Wayforward.

It's sad to say, but I think anyone at this point can outdo Squaresoft's efforts with Final Fantasy. But I'd prefer From Software making it.

...NO. :meh:

Yeah Dragon trivia games have really been lacking recently. MS needs to make a move!
