Official Thread Everwild (Viva Piñata like?)

I read it was a GAAS title, I hope that's not true because I liked the look of it but if it's another online service based game forget it.

I’m interested, but my first thought was that it looks like a SoT clone, but on land.

Probably won’t hear anything else until E3.

Game looks like it’s going to be really good. Lots of praise for the trailer at Gaf and Resetera.

Where did you read that at?

Twitter so it's not like it's 100% for sure I just hope it's not. With MS reps continually talking about how they need to be able to monetize games beyond game pass subs it does make me worry that they aren't going to do a whole lot in the AAA single player space. The trailer didn't really explain much of anything but I thought it looked really cool so I was hoping it'd be some kind of action RPG.

This line in the press release leads me to believe it probably is some kind of game as a service type of title though.
will give you memorable, engaging, and meaningful experiences for players everywhere to share

Or just you know have multiplayer
Verge is one of the sites reporting that it is NOT a fully GAAS game like Sea of Thieves.

Tom Warren has the inside scoop at MS.

“Rare’s previous Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive, Sea of Thieves, launched last yearand the team will continue to work on it and provide updates. It’s fair to say it wasn’t a smash hit, but it also wasn’t a flop either. Sea of Thieves now has a dedicated community of players, but Rare is clearly keen to try something new with Everwild that’s not necessarily as service-driven as Sea of Thieves.”

I haven't tried Sea of Thieves yet but have thought about it. My biggest issue as someone who just wants to chill 95% when gaming these days, is that it's an open world f fest for gankers. Is there anyway to play passive in that and just enjoy the raids or whatever quests they have?

Yes and no. I've played the game by myself most of the time and I have been able to do things without any issues for like an hour. Then you start running into people who are on those big ships who like nothing better than to blow your skooner sky high out of the water after they steal your booty. It's frustrating but oh well. Oh and you get the more than occasional encounters with the weaken, megaton, and ghost ship.

Sounds like it is a service game. Unfortunate.

So we don't know but going ahead and throw it out there that it is based on Microsoft's recent history.

I am trying to think about how many GaaS games Rare has had in order to see if there is a trend:

Looks like 0.7874% of their games have been GaaS, so it seems likely based on history and trends, it will be a GaaS game.
