Official Thread Everwild (Viva Piñata like?)

Nothing official yet. I’m asking around to figure this out.

will strands be involved? That one scene where she’s walking up with two others behind her kinda invokes some kind of co-op feature. I could be wrong, they did look a bit too simil/plain and could be just some NPCs following her

It is a fantastic time for the studio. To be in a position where we're announcing a brand new IP that we feel very passionate about, it's very very special. And alongside that we still have a super successful ongoing service-based IP in Sea of Thieves that still has millions of people playing it.

I think Rare makes the kind of games the world doesn't have. Sea of Thieves was a very unique type of game, and I think Everwild is a very unique type of game.

Sounds like Everwild isn't going to be an ongoing service based IP like Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves is still growing in year 2, which seems "rare", and coming up to their best December to date.

The game is called EVERwild.... Makes me think it's going to be an MMO/GaaS game. This kind of naming convention doesn't instill confidence in me. Hell, even the "Infinite" in "Halo: Infinite" has me on a bit of an edge.

The Trailer for THIS game doesn't push characterization at the very least. No character dialogue, and the character looks like a create-a-character to me. The Trailer doesn't communicate "narrative". If it's another Sea of Thieves, then I'll probably pass. I want more Kameo; less SoT...

If they are going to build a big open world for people to share it's almost 100% going to be based on multiplayer of some type so they can add a ton of microtransactions to make money off of it.

Yeah they really flooded SoT with them.....

You mean the game that launched well before it was ready and had hardly any content and was drip fed for a long time after? Yeah that's a great model for first party titles.

I'm hoping this is a third person exploratory, Viva Piñata meets Sea of Thieves meets something totally unique that Everwild brings to the table.

And I hope they do a massive info dump this summer for an autumn 2021 release.
OMG. Please don't let it have anything resembling Viva Pinata. Yikes! I'm just not sold on Rare revisiting any old Ip's.

Either way, its a gorgeous looking game. I hope we get to see more of it very soon

Isn’t this supposed to be another shared world game?

They haven't been specific about exactly what it's going to be, but apparently it won't be like SoT.

This is the only official description so far:

'The Everwild team is focused on building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world. The development team, led by Executive Producer Louise O'Connor, is creating something truly original and incredibly special that aims to be more than just a new IP. Everwild will offer memorable, engaging and meaningful experiences for players everywhere to share. We cannot wait to share more with you in the future. '

Are we sure that it won't be like SoT, in that it will be a persistent online game with evolving lands? Cuz that's what I'm thinking.

I couldn’t find the exact quote, but I had read somewhere that it wouldn’t be as GAAS-like as SoT. I’m hoping for more of the Zelda idea too, but we’ll see soon enough.

No but it’s not service based. I hope we find out this summer.

I’d be fine with it if it had a dynamic system of other players joining you, sort of like Ashen.

I'm not really sure why GAAS is such a bogeyman of gaming, as long as it's like SoT. Is it about money add-ons? I mean there is nothing in that game that's really reliant on spending extra money. Until pets came out late last year, I don't even think they even had the ancient coins at all (the money currency). Nothing in the game helps you play better for having them, either. They even made a way to get the coins within the play system if you don't want to spend cash on them. Rocket League is another example of not needing to spend an extra dollar. To me, it's kind of like bitching about the prices of soda and drinks at the movies. You don't need that sh!t, just eat first, and smuggle your own darn candy in if you don't want to pay. Lol.

Typical PR bulls*** that virtually every company says.

Better not be like SoT. SoT was a rip off, asking people to buy what was essentially just a sea with a few rocks in it and not much else was scummy, it was F2P at best.

SoT isn't my thing and it launched what was essentially a paid beta however its a substantial game today with a large fanbase. Rare's issue back then was lack of funding. The SoT team was less than 100 people (I think 80) the year before it launched trying to make a large shared world experience. There are no funding issues at Rare or any of Microsoft's studios today. There's also no rush to push out unfinished content now that they've got plenty of 1st party teams. While Everwild may not be everyone's cup of tea, it won't be an unfinished, rushed, overpromised game.

De Ja vu.

That is what everybody screamed when I pointed out the launch SoT issues when we had the beta.

I agree. SoT was a $60 game that was literally bare bones, which took 2 years to get $60 of content added. Exact same thing with GT Sport. It was essentially F2P game when it was released, and then dripped content over the next 2 years to became a $60 game.

That is the problem I have with SOME games as a service. It's not just about microtransactions. It's the lack of a $60 game when you buy it, with promises of a $60 game drip fed for 2 years.

Gt Sport wasnlt even close to a F2P game had plenty of content at launch with 160 cars and 40 tracks. Clearly you haven't played a F2P racer befor. Go look at what you get in Race Room.

That is a strak contrast to SoT that had less than alot of F2P games.
