Official Thread Fable IV

As a player who played legends before, I can tell you the last update was amazing and it was getting better.

I think playing as the heroes was completely awesome. The feel of the gameplay was perfect, graphics & art & animation were amazing, everything was just going well... my only complaint though was playing as the Villian; didn't care for it. It was a complete chore, and honestly felt like they didn't put a lot of effort into it which is a huge problem when you make that the entire basis of your game.

They should've made the game a Diablo-esque dungeon crawler which nutty endgame gear and such. Whoever was creative lead should've seen that a mile out and corrected course.

Shame really.

I kinda feel it shouldn’t have been called Fable....even if some of the previous games kinda soured the name.

It can be called fable because that is the Universe that is from. The villain part was a joke and should of never went their.

Lionhead was a mess. Not sure how much of that was MS meddling and how much of it was Molynuts incompetence. But it was a mess. Playground is more competent, in better shape, and a better purchase.

That's on Microsoft at the end of the day. Lack of leadership all around. You have the money to get things done, bring in the right people, etc, but you refuse to. Instead close studios and cancel games, wash your hands of any wrong doing. People see through that.

Glad they're on the right track now. Fable is one of my favorite Xbox IPs and i'm looking forward to what a competent dev like Playground does with it. Lionhead wasn't beyond saving though. They just got the short end of the stick.

Well, it's true that Lionhead was a solid company when they were originally acquired. They didn't start to go down the toilet until MS owned them for a long time, then started directing them to do projects they didn't care for and they weren't particularly good at. So I agree that the majority of the blame would go to MS.

I'm going to take the scenic route and blame it on Sony... because they sent Phil Harrison to sabotage MS's Europe efforts.

I remember really liking the Berserk game on Dreamcast. Kind of a surprising twist if they dumped Fable for this IP.

But it is not. You can see Guts in top picture. The Flag of the Army in last picture. Unless they were just showing MS how they would handle and make a more mature Fable IV... That is definitely THE GOLDEN AGE ARCDoldrey.jpggoldenarcII.jpg

Man..the whole Casca thing traumatized me from ever watching / reading anything Berserk past the first series.

I'm waiting for Fable 4. On the other hand..it would be pretty badass to see a new Beserk game from PG.

But Yeah, I agree. Maybe it's just a showpiece as a fan to set the tone for work on Fable 4.

One of my favorite series, but the finale is traumatizing all around.

Fable was always a fun game to mess around in. Glad to hear the series isn't completely dead.
FABLE was found unconscious at HOT MINUTE MOTELS. Attempts to resuscitate failed. FABLE was pronounced dead at 2 AM, foul play is not suspected. FABLE was 14 years old. Early Coroner reports suggest toxic levels of acorn alcohol in FABLE's blood stream. Suspected Suicide. No note was left. It was stated that FABLE was clutching a tattered photo of Peter Molyneux. The photo was incomplete.

Found this on Reddit.

There's a link in there to a translated article. If true, Studio Gobo is working on a spiritual successor to Legends, it will be AAA but also free to play. Sigh, not like this Microsoft, please! Fans simply want Fable 4. SP focused! A proper Fable 4.

Why even can Legends if you're gonna do the same thing again?

Speak for your self. I played fable legends to the end and the last update was very good and unique. We can have both Fable 4 and Legends you know.

Based on the comments below that Reddit post, it seems that 1) the article is making a lot of assumptions, and 2) the source isn't credible.

I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Haha, I forgot about this thread. Fun to see how it all began, we went from Gobo making Fable to PG, which is ALOT more exciting. But let's prepare for a long ass wait until we see anything from this game. I don't think we're even going to see a teaser at E3, because I recall the dev saying it would be a long time until we get some real info. I believe they said they this year.

On the other hand, Phil at E3 last year during the show said they would talk about that later. Which at that moment to me it sounded like they would talk about it later in the show.

This was a rumor posted on Reddit then removed:

  • First/Third person
  • In depth character creator
  • Completely open
  • No guns
  • Can ignore main quest and never become a hero
  • Players can build towns, ties into main quest heavily if you get the bad ending and fail
  • Multiplayer
  • Unreal Engine
Albion and Aurora are gone. "Lands reduced to fables." The Spire was rebuilt and used by a mad king to wish that an asteroid would strike the planet. He also wished it would happen again in the far future. Eons later and everything is new (medieval themed, new continents), and you have to stop the destruction of the planet again. Theresa and a Heroes Guild are preserved on another planet via demon door. Time travel heavily involved in plot. Jack of Blades returns

So it's ignoring The Journeys story which saw Theresa give get life and Gabriel becoming the new Seer.

Shame IMO as he was a more likeable character.

*If* it’s even true. I just want to reiterate my rumors are just rumors, and should be used for novelty purposes only!

That being said, the fact that it was pulled down probably means it has some degree of accuracy.

Got to admit that sounds interesting as hell. I wondered where they would take the series after the industrial revolution in Fable 3 and this sounds like a pretty decent way to reintroduce fable without all the baggage of the previous games.

Personally I hope that is fake, not because everything sounds bad to me, but town building? No man, just no. Please just build a nice enough game world filled with tons and little villages. The whole building stuff in Fallout 4 is something I completely skipped. Now I'm scared they won't make too much of that themselves and leave it to players. Hope not.

Also, multiplayer, I sure hope that refers to co-op because I absolutely expected that their open world RPG would be a SP experience. If it's just like previously I'm alright with that. But RPG is a solo thing in my book.

Glad there're no more guns if thats true, but I hope there are bows and arrows and not just crossbows as I greatly prefer bows. I'd love for it to be drop in drop out coop. SP is great for these types of games, but having someone else there as well could be a ton of fun as well, especially someone with drastically different character builds. A knight & mage team would be a blast in a game like this.
