Official Thread Fable IV

Doubt we have to worry about that.
They'll bring them come E3 and add a few to their portfolio. They'll be great games as well. You can quote me though. It won't be enough. I'm even expecting responses like, "I love Halo, Gears and Forza. Not sure why the feel the need to create more." It's gonna be ridiculous.

It's no different than the responses of "I love Uncharted, Killzone and Gran Turismo". Oddly enough, we are getting another Uncharted and Gran Turismo this year.

After MS brings the games, I wonder how long it'll take for people to start chanting, "We didn't ask for games."

It will be all about how PS Vue is a better service than the Cablebox One. The narrative will keep changing and the hate will keep flowing. I'd rather be on the dark side. Considering Scorpio will be the best place to play Star Wars: Battlefront 2!

I'm highly dubious to the Fable Legends reboot rumor. Microsoft would look absolutely idiotic dumping Lionhead when it was fairly close to done and then rebooting it with another developer? Dumbest move ever. I think it took Lionhead so long simply because making that 1 v 4 formula work and to justify it in a standalone game is very difficult and the main reason why it transition to F2P.....Evolve came out at $60 and didn't do well.

As for the studio itself, I'm sad that Lionhead is gone but after Molyneaux left, it seemed like a shell of it's former self. Love or hate Molyneaux, at least he had vision and was able to ship games. I think MS really need a "reload" after shuttering Lionhead, shuttering Press Play, and cancelling Scalebound. It would be great if that consisted of controlled first party studios but I think having 2nd party arrangement with studios working on MS IP is probably going to be the norm moving forward. MS also need to take what AAA studios they have left and split them up into 2 teams that alternate games. This way we could get fresh new IP along with the status quo (think Naughty Dog).

Whatever Studio Gobo is working on, it better not be a Fable Legends reboot. I'd take a new full Fable RPG over that any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Added points though if Fable Legends is bolted on as an MP mode (though I despise the term "bolted on").

Forget Gobo, what's Uncle Traveling Matt working on?

"...In fact, Forza Horizon 4 should be unveiled at E3 2018 in Los Angeles this June, which means the wait for official info is only about six months from now. However, some news has recently come out about Forza Horizon 4, unofficially of course. Fans have hoped for the next entry in the open-world series to be set in Japan, and it looks like that this will indeed be the case.

According to a recent post on the ResetEra forum, the next Forza Horizon game is headed towards “the rising sun,” which for those who aren’t aware, is a reference to Japan and its flag. The post was shared by forum member Klobrille, who also shared teases for Fable, an unannounced Mech game, and a Halo title featuring a higher player-count. These cryptic teases don’t confirm anything, but the user was responsible for sharing a lot of Microsoft’s E3 2016 announcements before the company’s briefing, including details on Forza Horizon 3 being set in Australia and the Halo Wars 2 Open Beta..."

"...Overall, the folks at Playground Games have one busy year ahead. Not only is Forza Horizon 4 development in full-swing, but its upcoming open-world RPG is also in the works. With a recent studio expansion granted and additional office space secured, there’s been several rumours as to what the new title could be. The latest in the rumour mill is that Playground Games could be working on the next entry in the currently-dormant Fable franchise for Microsoft, though it’s worth keeping in mind that the British developer has said the project will be “an entirely new AAA open-world action RPG project.”

However, on its most recent job opening for ‘Senior Game Designer,’ that “entirely new” label has been replaced with “exciting, large-scale,” as spotted by Wccftech. The author of this article also makes note of an interesting tweet from Lionhead’s former Lead Engine Programmer, Don Williamson, who revealed that he knows who’s building Fable IV, saying it was an “interesting choice” for Microsoft. Williamson later deleted the tweet, and didn’t say who the developer is, but Playground Games would certainly make an “interesting choice” for Fable given their racing game heritage. Studio Gobo’s Electric Square, which is based in Brighton, is currently developing a title for Microsoft Studios, but Williamson also debunks this from being Fable, saying “there’s nobody here in Brighton that could take on a task of that magnitude.”..."

"...Playground Games is currently occupying the ground and first floors of the second studio it has acquired in Leamington Spa, with a major refurbishment also in the works. It plans to move into the second floor of the new space by the end of 2018. The new office will be home to more than 200 employees, all of whom will work on Playground’s open-world action RPG. Combined with the already established Playground studio working on the Forza Horizon series, this will bring the company’s headcount to more than 400 employees – making it the definitive game developer in the Leamington Spa region."

Could we see an rpg with Japanese/Asian influences. It would make sense to share tech and assets on what they built upon and what they’re currently aiming for, no?

I'm excited for any RPG comming from MS!

I don't think I've ever been disappointed with their exclusive RPG's before.

Sudeki was pretty fun, and I loved it's combat mechanics. Kingdoms of amular or whatever it was called, was pretty faboosh aswell, and really deserved a sequel.

And the Fable games oozed charm, even if they did have numerous shortcomings.

I do hope they steer away from heavy sci-fi though, and aim towards a bit more of a fantasy setting, even if it is a fantasy setting in a modern world.

And I totally have faith in these guys as developers, even if they are mostly a new studio. They aren't afraid to make things a bit cray-cray if it ensures fun.

And kudos to MS for rewarding the studio for doing well, but I hope they don't butcher the studio in half if it doesn't perform. A 400 person studio is a big liability, and MS aren't prone to supporting dead weight...

Fuk that. No need for the Asian influence, thanks. Keep it American influence or British. Not everyone like the Asian thing in RPGS's

What if your a person who transforms into a car, each upgrade (like a turbo) you do is like going up a skill tree.

*stares over at Bellybama san* you’re our resident Asian, what say you? この男はクレイジーですか?

Eigo de itte kudasai, Watashi no Nihongo wa yokunai desu. Party wo sagas***e imasu.

And I currently don't have any Asian in me... ask again later.

Absolutely. Tbh of it was just a mirror/reverse Australia that would be amazingly diverse. (Just add dragons and Hobbs) but i absolutely would expect it to include assets from FH4 and FH5. Even if its just banzai trees and pagodas.

Will be FH4 of course, but do they ever plan on stopping the biannual cycle between Motorsport/Horizon sequels anytime soon?

I think they will.

But I do hope they throw in another studio to mix it up a bit, my bet would be on Sumo Studios since they worked on Horizon 2 fo the 360. With an extra studio everyone working on the franchise would get a third year of dev time.

Maybe with the third game they could go the pure arcade route and add stunts like Burnout. He’ll make it like Blur and add powerups and manical weaponry, with battle stages/tracks setup for “cat and mouse”, soccer, and proper arenas like twisted metal or destruction derby.

MS, again, if ya hiring, do hit me up on the dm ;)

Doubt it.

My big worry for FH4 is it ends up like Forza 7. A shell of what it should be and pointless restrictions designed to push the pointless M'transactions they forced into the game.

No. PG made a second team so theres no sign its going to stop. It's also dominating it's respective genre, so theres even less reason.

Well FM7 doesn't have them YET, but I bet they will add them soon.

I can understand why some might not like microtransactions, but seems like it's here to stay unless developers take another direction as far as monetizing games past the original release.

I have a s*** ton of games, and I haven't even done a single microtransaction. I have to say, I love that Forza 7 has hidden the lootboxes so that they are not in your face. But Call of Duty WWII, that thing is like microtransaction hell in YO face.

Sources: Microsoft plots Fable return

Work is underway on a brand new, big-budget Fable game, Eurogamer can reveal.

Fable franchise owner Microsoft has tasked UK developer Playground, which makes the Forza Horizon racing games for Xbox and PC, with creating this new Fable, sources close to the project have told Eurogamer. Microsoft said in a statement it does not comment on rumour or speculation.

We've heard the new Fable is planned as a story and character-focussed open-world action RPG. A significant investment in its development is also planned, with some 200 people set to work on the game at Playground's newly-established second office in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

Don't expect to play this new Fable any time soon, however. We've heard it's early days in terms of development, with Playground currently staffing up the team from double digits to its triple digit target.

So, what changed? We've heard Microsoft's rekindled interest in Fable was in part inspired by Sony's phenomenal success with Guerrilla Games' PlayStation 4-exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn.

"I have slightly mixed feelings," Fable co-creator Simon Carter told Eurogamer.

"On the one hand it's great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn't dead; indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter, without coming out in hives.

"On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I'm sure they'll do a fantastic job."

... This new Fable is seen as something of a clean break, and while all Fable Legends assets were backed up after Lionhead shut down, the expectation is Playground is starting from scratch as it bids to revive the Xbox-exclusive franchise.
