Official Thread Fable IV

Glad there're no more guns if thats true, but I hope there are bows and arrows and not just crossbows as I greatly prefer bows. I'd love for it to be drop in drop out coop. SP is great for these types of games, but having someone else there as well could be a ton of fun as well, especially someone with drastically different character builds. A knight & mage team would be a blast in a game like this.

The good thing about Fable was you didn't have to choose between being a knight or a mage, you could be both but of course you focused more on one area of stats. I agree about the guns, I wasn't a fan either and I think overall while I do love that series they tried to push it too far forward in time too fast.

Personally I hope that is fake, not because everything sounds bad to me, but town building? No man, just no. Please just build a nice enough game world filled with tons and little villages. The whole building stuff in Fallout 4 is something I completely skipped. Now I'm scared they won't make too much of that themselves and leave it to players. Hope not.

Also, multiplayer, I sure hope that refers to co-op because I absolutely expected that their open world RPG would be a SP experience. If it's just like previously I'm alright with that. But RPG is a solo thing in my book.

Fable 2 had co-op didn't it? it's been a while since I played it but I know one of them allowed players to drop in and explore with you, I don't know if they could actually play any of the missions though I'd have to go back and check. I really loved Albion in the old games, I'm not happy hearing that it's gone but hopefully it's just the name that has changed and not the type of world, the character, humor and architecture in fable made it special.

2 and 3 had co-op

They wanted 4 player from the first game onwards but didn't happen.

Hope the ageing system is sorted. Stupid that you look older than the heroes own mum by the time you find her in Fable!

This was a rumor posted on Reddit then removed:

  • First/Third person
  • In depth character creator
  • Completely open
  • No guns
  • Can ignore main quest and never become a hero
  • Players can build towns, ties into main quest heavily if you get the bad ending and fail
  • Multiplayer
  • Unreal Engine
Albion and Aurora are gone. "Lands reduced to fables." The Spire was rebuilt and used by a mad king to wish that an asteroid would strike the planet. He also wished it would happen again in the far future. Eons later and everything is new (medieval themed, new continents), and you have to stop the destruction of the planet again. Theresa and a Heroes Guild are preserved on another planet via demon door. Time travel heavily involved in plot. Jack of Blades returns

Fake I guess?

Well yes, I know you could be a hybrid, my example was just using 2 wholly unique builds as a way to demonstrate the benefits of coop. When you have 2 very different character builds together I think it's a lot more interesting than 2 similar hybrid characters playing. I'm quite interested to see what form ranged combat will take. In medieval RPGs I tend to go the stealth archer route on a first playthrough so I'm hoping that is a viable path and that the combat with that type of character is more engaging than in Fables of the past which used an overly generous lock on system....

I do hope there is a money generating system that is as easily exploitable as the real estate business in Fable 2, hahaha, I was so fuggin' rich in that game it was absurd.

And honestly I'll be a little bummed if they ditched the art style and the cartoonish character proportions. I liked the over-sized hands & feet, hahaha

Right, I'm all for a reboot of sorts, but the franchise had a ton of redeeming qualities.

Talking about Xbox has always been synonymous with Fable. And is that the RPG that gave life from the extinct Lionhead has been characterized as a spearhead in the strategy of the brand. For years we have been demanding a new installment, after the closure of the study and the cancellation of Legends , IP fans have felt a bit orphaned in this field and that is why there are voices that have already risen claiming that “already plays” a new delivery.

In the past we were able to give you an old concept art of what was going to be this fourth installment. But this possible Fable was canceled at the Xbox 360 stage to bring Legends to life. Now that the rumors put the development in the hands of Playground Games, everything looks with magnifying glass.

What is known about the supposed Fable of Playground?

Well, we officially know that the studio located at Leamington Spa is working on an open-world RPG. The job offers have been carefully studied to give no clue, although some media with enough authority and trustworthy such as Eurogamer put the development of a new installment of Fable in the hands of Playground.

We also learned that the studio has been signing Lionhead talents related to the old IP that currently seems asleep. Even some old components of the English study gave clues that we are indeed facing a new Fable.

Fable in the modern age

As always in this house we are looking for information wherever we can so that our readers know first hand what they can expect from what is to come. Reviewing several professional profiles of design artists, we have come across these elaborate artworks to hold the position of design artist in Playground Games. They have been uploaded recently, 4 days ago.

After talking with the artist in question, he has confirmed that the information is true. These artworks are not the final concept, they are only tests under the conditions and guidelines set by the artistic direction of the studio to determine if the artist in question is able to represent what they are looking for. This means that both this design and the character that has been built with it, may never see the light, but at least the clues found in it. We are trying to verify more data with third parties.

Concept for the Playground Games RPG.

If you look closely, reference is made to the 16th century. Given that all Fables are inspired by stages lived in England, we could set the time frame of this at some point in the modern age, which is located between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. It seems that we are facing a hero or a female character with character.

The evolution of Fable on Xbox One

It certainly makes sense to have chosen this timeline. Fable is a franchise with strong inspirations in difficult political decisions and hectic periods. The modern age had in England, a very convulsive moment between the two churches and the rise of the bourgeois. A perfect climate to transfer the already stirred Albion.

It also involves the incursion of both the Spanish and English empires to colonize the Americas . Something that would give a lot of play if we talk about an open world game, in fact some rumors pointed out that there would be 'new continents' in this Fable.

Be that as it may, we don't know what the final game will be like, just to speculate based on these proofs of concepts that, as I say, may not be representative of the final finish of the RPG in which they work from Playground Games.

From IGN:

Update:
The artist has emailed IGN to clarify that the images are not from any official project, and were tests made for a position. They also clarified that they are not a Playground Games employee, nor affiliated with any project the studio might be working on.

We have since removed the images at the artist's request. Originally, the test concepts appeared to be for a character that might fit in a Fable game. The notes on the character design specifically state that they're inspired by the actor Anne Hathaway and that they wield some kind of bladed weapon.

Yeah the look is part of the charm, they can make the combat feel better and open up the world more but they need to keep the core of what makes fable the game that it is. The humor, the charm, the odd looking characters, the architecture etc, they only visual I'd drastically change is the balverines, I'd rather they looked more like werewolves ;) other than that just do upgraded versions of what they've been doing but with a truly open world and it'd be great.

Not sure if that is an official twitter account for MS.

If Xbox champion edition makes a proper FAble sequel, I may consider it over PS5

Yes, why is the game Fable called Fable?
I think it reflects the feel of the series, specifically the original, which was sort of a storybook good vs evil plot/art style/soundtrack. It also reflects the moral choices you can make within the game and how your decisions physically change your character and the way people interact with you, even if it is limited.

I'd thought at least one character would be a talking animal.
