your right, acting like an assh*le is a personality thing with a person. SONY had nothing to do with them they are just a company that trying to do what is right, but the people that follow them are really bad. Not all of them just most.

I don't think most Sony gamers are a******s. Just some. The internet, you know, is like a proctology examination -- it makes a******s more visible. Like someone said earlier, a vocal minority give the rest of us a bad name. But it really is a minority. Most people -- yes, even most Playstation owners -- are not despicable, racist, foulmouth jerks. Most people are decent enough.

I think it generally shows the difference of markets the two consoles are targeting. Xbox in my circle of influence tends to be seen as more for older gamers, and to be honest, there is a certain "ghetto" stereotype with PS....its what all the WT around here play.

Yeah, I know what astroturfing is. Do you realize the definition you cited undermines what you're alleging? "...give the appearance of it coming from a disinterested, grassroots participant. Astroturfing is intended to give the statements the credibility of an independent entity." Fanboys are anything but disinterested, and they are anything but credible. As others have pointed out, fanboys (especially the ugly variety we're talking about here) do not help the company at all, in fact, they make the company look worse by association.

And again, they were effective at undermining the xbox with this effort. Toys R Us pulled the Xbox advertisement because of Sony astroturfing, now everyone is blaming the fans. That is my whole point. Sony, who sought to undermine Microsoft, successfully did so(Sony managed to have the advertisement removed), then Sony blames the fans (by astroturfing) and Sony comes out looking good at the end of the day. All Sony had to do this was spend a couple hundred dollars on Amazon Mechanical Turk to get this done... Then to make matters worse, Sony fans don't even realize they are tools in Sonys agenda.

All you are doing is posting an unproven theory because Belkin did that once.

It wouldn't take a Sony Mechanical Turk effort to get a bunch of people to spam a Toys R Us video on YouTube.

Links were posted on rather large forums full of people who would do exactly that.

Well, if you're convinced that Sony bankrolled this moron uprising, I guess I can't convince you otherwise, and it would be silly of me to try. It just seems like an unnecessary "conspiracy theory" element tacked on to me, though. There are plenty of foul-mouth, racist fanboys out there -- you don't need to assume Sony is paying for it. But if that's how you see it, ok.

Agreed, doesn't take much to get the mob riled up. Especially GAF and the mob attitude there. You would think that Microsoft raped their mothers and the Xbox One killed their children. All based on some policies that never came to fruition. It's mind boggling to say the least. Not saying that kind of shill behavior doesn't exist but I'm highly dubious Sony is doing it. This is just internet mob mentality plain and simple.

It's not all fanboys that act like that, It's Sony fanboys. It is well known how vile and annoying they are. Destructoid even wrote an article about it.

LOL.

Fanboys are everywhere for any product, but let's face it. It's more prevalent with some brands than others. And it's no surprise to me it's Sony gamers (as usual) getting all emotional and angry.

Geez. It's Toys R Us doing their annual plug of toys. And it's a place geared to kids as most of the store is meant for kids aged probably 12 and under (and don't forget the Babies R Us section). The gaming section is probably the highest aged section in the store with a mix of games for all ages.

There's tons of different gamers who prefer playing on one platform/brand..... Nintendo, Xbox, tablet gamer, PC, MAC, cellphone, heck I'm sure there's even some hardcore Amiga guys in Europe still happy to play 20 year old games, yet no doubt Sony gamers are the worst.

Check out the following Destructoid paragraph. Guess what? I write my sentences BEFORE reading the article in more depth. Soudns similar doesn't it?
You see, Sony fanboys are the worst ones. Don't get me wrong -- Nintendo fanboys, Microsoft fanboys and PC fanboys each have their irritating quirks and infuriating mannerisms, but the Sony fans truly are the worst of a bad lot. In a barrel full of rotten apples, they are the most putrid, festering, blackened pools of mulch at the bottom. Everybody knows this, but like that one "friend" at the party who everybody is too polite to shun, nobody has dared to tell Sony fanboys that they are truly the pariahs of society and need to stop hanging out with the rest of us.

A fine set of closing paragraphs. LOLOL

Or perhaps they just have tiny penises. Who knows?

Whatever the reason, it's true. Sony fanboys are by far the worst of the gaming worst. Your PC obsessives are arrogant, your Xbox 360 obsessives are ignorant, and your Wii obsessives subscribe to some creepy cult of personality, but its the lunatics who champion Sony that truly rule the realm of fanboyism with an iron fist. They're childish, selfish, petulant, and possess a bizarre victim complex where everything is always about how biased people are and every offhand comment, every joke, every observation must be taken personally. They seem to believe in a conspiracy theory they've concocted where reviewers and the gaming media have it out for Sony, pursuing a personal vendetta for no reason whatsoever. They have never once considered what a reviewer would actually get out of pursuing petty grudges against Sony, or why anybody actually cares that much. The only people who care about "bias" against Sony are the Sony fanboys themselves. It's all in their head.

Amazingly, the Destructoid article was written in 2009! Imagine what the guy would write in 2013!

Fanboys can be legit crazy folk. All nexgen consoles are gonna have to wield some serious ban hammers because this kind of stuff seems to only get worse and makes the community pure s***aku.

No doubt.

Call it stereotypical profiling, but as soon as Nov comes, ban hammers should be focused on Sony gamers. PC gamers are still around and always will be since PC evolves steadily, Nintendo gamers are quiet as usual no matter how well their system/games sell and MS gamers are much more likely to try keeping things in stride. You won't find MS gamers dumping on places like Toys R Us.

If anything, you'd think PC gamers with decent rigs would be constantly dumping on console gamers every year as a good rig will beat out a console just about every time. And it only gets worse as a console reaches its last legs. Yet, for all the PC gamers, you don't see as many PC elitists as you'd think roaming forums with pro-PC stuff considering how many PC gamers there are out there. Even for something non-spec related like game prices (which Steam games get really cheap as time goes by), you don't see many PC threads of gamers dumping on console gamers paying $10-30 more for games.

As for corporate PR, I see nothing changing. PC doesn't have a central PR spokesmen aside from AMD and Nvidia battling each other with Gpus, Nintendo execs seem to keep quiet (even when Wii demolished 360/PS3, they didn't bother with silly marketing), MS will continue promoting as usual (typically focused on MS stuff), while Sony will cater to their loyal fans and churn out the PR the second things are going well.... typically combative advertsing and PR.

Kind of reminds me of all the Apple vs PC guy ads. Big difference is that Apple is huge, makes tons of sales, profits, has big market share and makes good products. But even they decided to get stop all the anti-PC ads. Their audience is so big involving just about every demographic, they've fine tuned their promotions and ads to be accepted by the masses. The bratty snobby messages don't work anymore.

Sony is still stuck in the "my penis is bigger than yours" mentality. And why not? It's fits the mentality of their audience. That's all marketing really is. A slew of marketing managers and PR people come up with marketing communication messages to satisfy the targeted audience.
