Far Cry 6

I consider 2 the dumpster fire of all Far Cry games.

FC2 had it's share of shortcomings and questionable designs, but I'm with Kerosene31, I think it was ahead of it's time. It had some survival-esque elements before survival games were a thing, and while not every system the game had was executed as well as it could've been, I enjoyed it quite a bit even back then. Honestly wish they'd try their hand again at some of the mechanics they abandoned due to poor reception at the time. I thought the weapon jamming was actually kind of an interesting way to throw a wrench into the middle of a player's plan, they just needed to implement a more intuitive and less frustrating way of preventing jams to begin with.

Just bought this game from boxing day. Any good?

My first Far Cry :)
I need to circle back around to it, but I think it is pretty good. The graphics are nice and it has some of those "wacky" Far Cry moments where all hell breaks loose, horses are on fire, etc. It ultimately falls into the standard Ubisoft pattern of being tedious after a long while but it is still fun initially.

Its fun. I skipped 4 and 5 so I wasn't tired of the formula. And since you never played any in the series I think you'll have a good time. Easy mode is to get a good rifle and suppressor to silently take everyone down. But you'll miss out on all the fun toys available to you. That's why in most cases I head into enemy bases with a vehicle or just go in guns blazing and have fun with the chaos. Also, don't forget about your Amigos/AI Companions. They can be really useful and make for some funny moments in the game.

There's a co-op mode but the missions have the same objectives even though they take place in different looking locals. It didn't grab me but I was soloing with randoms so it might be more fun with friends.

Really not a fan of having my abilities tied to the 6 gear items. I miss the skill tree and being able to eventually become a capable of everything. It's stupid that now I magically forget how to do a sidearm takedown because I changed my gloves in order to sabotage an alarm, or that a pair of jeans enable me to sprint faster until I change into some basketball shorts so that I'm more resistant to explosive damage...

I'm just playing this now as a filler for today until I can try to get Elden Ring tomorrow and man, this game looks at least half a gen or more behind after playing HFW.

It could use a remaster. It was ahead of its time in many ways, but the rapidly respawning enemies ruined the game for me.

I never beat the Pagan Min expansion and haven't gone back to try it since this stranger things mission released. I guess they added a bunch of requested features (that should've been in from the start but hey) as well.

With as much DLC and similarly structured franchises as they have, you'd think we'd start to see crossovers, like a Far Cry 6 DLC that is mixed with Assassin's Creed, etc.

I liked what I played for free over the weekend. I'll definitely buy it when it's $20 or under.

Have to admit, I enjoyed what I played during the free weekend. Will pick it up down the line when I get some time.

I enjoyed it for sure. There's definitely a "been there, done that" feel where nothing much has changed since basically FC3, but I still love open world shooters.
I think it is definitely worth a pickup on sale if you aren't burnt out on the formula. The only real issue I ran into with FC6 was that stealth was too powerful and basically the easy mode to get through everything. There seemed to be too many enemies to "go loud" so it was really stealth heavy which was still kind of fun.

It's strange, assassin's Creed made a huge leap from AC Unity to Origins, you would've thought they'd do the same with FC at number 5, but there's basically the same games as FC3 with better textures and res.

I feel Ubisoft gets alot of s*** for their games but IF you like their formulas you more than get your money's worth.

Even if you just aren't annoyed by one game being pretty similar but with only a few key differences I feel like you can get the value out of them. FC6 is probably my least played entry, but I still feel I got my money's worth of enjoyment out of it (still need to play the stranger things and rambo content). I feel like so many people expect radical changes from game to game as if they're supposed to AC:Origins style restructure the series with every entry. AC needed a soft re-launch after unity tarnished the series' reputation, FC has not yet suffered such a poorly received entry.

There is talk that FC7 will go be a bigger departure than recent releases have from the established formula, sadly most indications suggest it's a GaaS direction, but fingers crossed that isn't actually the case.

I wondered why you put out news that puts this game in a bad light (from kotaku nonetheless), then I remembered FC5 going on game pass and you prob are afraid the same will happen with FC6, so you start building up negativity towards it already.
You're one of a kind Shawn lol

I'm a big far cry fan, but it is kind of funny them putting out a GOTY edition. Plus, I think the cost doesn't even save you anything if you just buy the game at full price plus all the DLC. Obviously you can get the original game much cheaper too, so this is actually more expensive.

LOL. Swede your way of thinking is kind of crazy even for a hardcore Xbox fan. I actually own the game on disc . I bought it last Christmas and it's in my backlog. But whatever makes you feel better in that world of yours where everything I post needs to shine team green in a negative light 😂

They still make discs for PC?

To be fair Far Cry 6 is the best Far cry game released in 2021, & the best AAA release in oct between Oct 5 to Oct 8
