Updated the OP. Demo is out in most regions now.

AU Link

U.S. Link

Also you get a unique theme if you download the demo before May.
Thanks! Added to my downloads.

Played and completed the demo. I've got mixed feelings. *Ramble Alert*

As someone who played the original when it was released in '97, I can't believe how good the game looks. Gameplay and cut scenes are seamlessly integrated.

The combat seems less JRPG and more action adventure. Reminds me of FF13 to be honest.

I'm getting the overall impression that the game is not quite remake but a retelling and that is bothering me more than it should.

There's alot of new content that fleshed out the narrative but is for now is slightly changing the story. I feel like Square is trying to add all the additional lore from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII into the remake to make one cohesive story. Plus based on the video at the end it seems like they're focusing heavy on Midgar in this part of the remake. Which is odd considering that the Midgar section in the original was not very long.

I'm glad that the remake is a thing, but I'm going to pass on this until they finish the entire project.

The first game is just until they leave Midgar, with a lot of new content to pad it out. I'm still interested once it hits PC/Xbox or I have the time to justify another console, but it's not a priority for that reason. Shame, because I love the game.

I only played the original until like maybe a couple hours after finishing Midgar. I remember renting it back in the late 90s/early 2000s but never even getting that far. Anyways, maybe just the age of the game or wasn't my style but just lost interest after Midgar. I'd be interested in playing this just for that opening sequence but definitely not at launch.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not to keep my pre-order or not. I pre-ordered from Amazon in June of 2019. Got it for a killer price.

That said, I'm not sure with it being episodic, that I shouldn't just wait for the complete remake with all the parts. Problem is that may be years down the line if we're working on Square Enix time. And now having played the demo and seeing what Square Enix is trying to go with narrative and game-play wise, I'm not sure if this is a must have game for me any more.
But those graphics.....

I'm also wondering how long it will be before this is a complete game. I can't imagine waiting years between episodes. I'm either gonna wait to pick up the first part when it's on sale, or wait until all episodes have been released.

Here's the most disconcerting part for me. Square Enix, to my knowledge, has never said how many parts the remake is split into. Obviously there is a part 2 but if they're making the entire Midgar sequence part 1, a sequence in the original was at best 5 to 10 percent of the game, there is potential for 2 things to happen:

1. They go full on Capcom mode and there are ALOT of full price parts ( Given all the dlc/expansions for FF15 and how broke up FF13's story into 3 separate games, this is quite possible)

2. In keeping with the original game shipping on 3 disks, the remake has 3 parts. However the remaining parts are rushed and not nearly as comprehensive as part 1.

Regardless, worst case scenario, I can see the remake parts starting on the PS4 and not finishing until a few years into the PS5 lifetime.

I have to agree. Though I really like what I played I'm not thrilled about it being several games. Also wonder if they are going to charge full price for each game...

This is Square Enix we're talking about. I'd be more surprised if they didn't charge full price for each game. And I half expect each part of the remake to have its own collector's edition.

The real time shadows in this game look absolutely dreadful, heavy dithering and ghosting everywhere. It's actually very distracting.

Its awesome and I can’t wait for the full release. I never played the original so I’m not invested in how things were. I can understand fans of the original being a little bummed about the changes but they also have to remember this is a REMAKE not a Remaster.

I can’t help but think that if Square had used this same type of active battle system Final Fantasy 15 would have been received more favorably. I actually really like FF15 but the battle system for this Remake is far superior.

Yeah I caved and picked it up. Eventually couldn't resist. FFVII was the first Final Fantasy I ever played back in 1997 when I was 13. Sooooo many fond memories.

While the game is pretty, the thing is making my fan work overtime on my PS Pro. I was going to replace my Pro last year with the latest version so that the fan was quiet. But now with the PS5 coming. I am not going to bother. I just turned up the volume of the game, and I don't hear it. The game sounds soooo nice.

The game makes me realize what a fine machine Sony created in the (base) PS4. Makes me sad the Kinect ate up so much of the budget space on the ONE.

My pro is pretty quiet TBH. Game looks amazing however some environmental textures are questionable. It doesn't really bother me though because the original had no texture detail to speak of...🤣🤣🤣

Passing until the PC version comes out. Next episode is more than likely not hitting ps4 and X1 and going straight to the next gen.
