No offense to Bellybama, but I figured we needed a proper OT for Final Fantasy XV, because it's a highly anticipated game (at least by some) and will release in a few months.

  • Under development for 10 years.
  • Demo did not impress.
  • Two month delay until 11/29, presumably to get it working better.
  • More realistic characters and environments than previous entries.
  • Open world, free roaming. Explore on foot, car, or bird.
  • Cooking and camping.

You play as a prince with magical power. You're special.

Here you are enjoying a cool beverage with your anime buds while someone grills the chocobo. If I was camping with that guy on the left, I'd tell him to button his shirt. Man, come on.

Unless the game reinvents the wheel and really impresses commercially and critically, I don't think its going to live up to it's name or hype. But its gonna be pretty. And it can't be any worse than FF13 and the sequels it got.

Delay to Nov. 29th is confirmed.

Here's a summary of the video where it is explained (posted at GAF):

----

Summary of the Tabata statement from the video:

- FFXV went gold the other day, and that was planned to be the version they ship on Sept 30.
- That version of the game will be playable at Gamescom, and they are cutting a 30 minute gameplay video to be released on Aug 16 showcasing the performance of that version.
- They planned a massive Day One Patch for the game which would further polish the game and fix lingering issues.
- But they have decided that instead of pressing the current gold master and delivering a day one patch, they will instead wait and use that completed version as the final gold master.
- Hence the game will be delayed to Nov 29, but they will be adding even more stuff on top of the planned fixes of the day one patch.

tl;dr - The game is delayed because they believe not everyone has internet connectivity and they don't want them to be left out of the perfect FFXV experience when the game ships to stores.

THIS THREAD DUSGUSTS ME!

I haven't been this offended since that time I had my lunch break alone, so I offered a homeless person a handy and he was all like "Nah bruh. I ain't that desperate" so I had to drink in the alley by myself before looking after my brothers children. And his kids are c***s.

Long live the original thread! Fight authority!

P.s. there are heaps of great videos about the tech going into the game if you search on YouTube. Some of it, just seems stupid.

I hate that SE keep insisting on making action games, when they're all s***. They can't create active combat systems that have depth. People complained that FFXIII was a passage way with occasional X buttons necessary. Now all the combat is controlled by one button. Brilliant.

I'll still buy it though.

I like that they delayed it for those reasons. All games should be released with people who don't have an internet connection in mind. It must have been a hot mess of Amanda Byne's proportions though.

Look at the state they release EVERY single one of their pc games. They rely on the mod community to make their games function.

Lots of hands-on previews coming from Gamescom. Apparently they're letting them play through the first 3 chapters.

Here are some excerpts:

"WIRED has now played through the first three chapters of the game on a preview build, and it's shaping up to be a deep and absorbing entry in the RPG series – but also one of its most divergent."

http://www.wired.co.uk/article/final-fantasy-xv-three-chapters-hands-on

"I came out of my hands-on more excited about Final Fantasy 15 than I’ve ever been. I also came out of it more curious. This is a strange and bold game with brilliant ideas in places and big ambitions. Whatever you make of its protracted development it’s plain Square Enix has thrown all they have at this."

"I found the opening of XV to be a pleasantly uncanny experience. There’s so much in there that I recognise – the underlying open-world structure, chirpy NPCs, overwhelming skill trees – but everything has been made a little strange. ... It’s that playful combination of the humdrum and the utterly fantastic that I think really sets it apart."

Found this somewhat informative (although I haven't been paying close attention to the press, so if you have, this might be old news for you). No story spoilers. These guys are clearly fans of the franchise, so take that into account. They give a decent overview of the game, some of the "open world" aspects, driving, combat, etc.

Ooooh. They pretty much sold me on the changes in that video. Damn it looks good.

It looks better than I expected. I've got other games that need to come first, but I can see myself giving this a whirl sometime in 2017, if the reviews are good.

If nothing else, it certainly looks different than anything else. It's so weird that they spent so much time on the food, lol.

That is a little strange. I see it in some of the promotional videos, even. "Look at these spare ribs! Yum!"

Info on the two versions (Xbox, PS4), although they're still optimizing.

"The version on Sony’s console runs between 900p and 1080p, while being close to holding the 30 FPS target. The Xbox One version runs between 765p and 900p and even here frame rate is close to 30 FPS. That said, he clarified that work on optimization isn’t finished, and the team will continue to work on it until launch, especially on stabilizing the frame rate."

He also mentions that while the first half of the game is open world, the second half of the game is much more linear.

I'm glad it got delayed until November. It wasn't looking all that impressive and there's so many games coming out these next couple months anyway. Well, i guess it's still kinda in the window with all the other games but whatever. I just really hope the game is good.

The review embargo lifts on the 28th at 10AM eastern time in the US.
Bah! What's the point of having a review embargo when the entire game has been streamed live already! Those bastardos!

I honestly have no idea which way the game is going to go. I'm tentatively excited...

But then hearing stuff like this pisses me off a bit.

Not that this stuff is in another game. The fact that their putting effort into bringing other stuff into this one for DLC in the season pass. Just cheapens the deal, and makes me want to hesitate on purchase.

If it turns out that they're holding back some of the endgame questing and weapons for DLC packs, I'll be disgusted.

Idk man, I wish I had the answers that you seek.

Depending on how well the game runs without the massive update and the amount of content missing, I might have to pass on this.

  • Final Fantasy XV's graphics are much improved over its two demos
  • Its day one patch is necessary to understand certain plot points
Sorry man, but I saw a note saying it was a pretty big download... 7-8gb...

Never got into Final Fantasy. Don't know whether it was the characters, gameworld or gameplay but tried and didn't feel it.
Might give the new title a bash though but for me, titles like skyrim, witcher 3 and fallout 4 are much more appealing. TBH don't think I've played a JRPG that I really enjoyed. I love Anime though so I do like the style etc but just never felt what the hype was surrounding Japanese RPG's.

Same here. I've purchased a few of them but never played them for more than a few hours.
