Not directly but it may have had a hand. October and November are shaping up to be big expensive months and I think Square Enix in conjunction with Sony may be trying this thing called management where they space a new IP far enough away from some of the bigger releases so that their sales aren't adversely affected.

Remember Forspoken is a PS5 console exclusive for 2 years. Both Sony and Square Enix have financial reasons to not let this game be released to the wolves during a busy season and forgotten about a few months from release.

Well, the game is also coming out on PC day one....AND was to be released before God of War until it was delayed. Forspoken wouldn't have had any impact from GOW release. And actually, outside of annual rinse and repeat Call of Duty, this season is one of the most dismal seasons we have seen in ages.

I'm not surprised if that is the case.

1) all the focus will be on God of War in November/Holiday 2022.

2) Both Square Enix and Sony will benefit from having a new release in the first month of the New Year once people have played and bought God of War already.

3) having spacings in new titles just makes more sense especially when they are both console exclusives.

With God of War coming in November there is no reason for this to come out in October, it's too bad this wasn't ready for the May launch where it wouldn't have had any first party games to deal with. Unless something changes between now and release I don't see this being a huge game anyway, it has looked so uneven when shown, sometimes it looks good sometimes it looks bad and I don't see/hear a lot of people talking about it except for when they release a trailer. We'll see, hopefully they've improved the animations and smoothed out the framerate since they last time they showed it.

No reason for the game to not come out because of GOW or any other game. It’s a different release date, different month, different genre and multi platform. Not sure why anyone would think GOW would have anything to do with it.

For some reason I see a response to what I said from someone I have on ignore so I'll just put this here. It's only common sense to delay this game, Sony has two first party games coming out in the fall, TLOU Part 1 in September and God of War in November, there is NO reason for them to have a paid timed exclusive get lost in the shuffle in October. It's a new IP and it's already not looking that promising to a lot of people so why try to release it when you've already got two big hitters? save it for a time when you may have nothing coming out for a few months.

Sony usually has something big come out around Feb or March, but nothing has been announced for that timeframe so far. I doubt Square wanted to push it out in October either after seeing that it was sandwiched between two big releases so close together. Sony already wasted a bunch of money on Ghostwire: Tokyo and Deathloop so they may as well do their best to give this one its best chance at being successful and that's not releasing it between two big games, there won't be enough time to market it properly either when they are going to be promoting the other two games through Christmas.

I agree. It appears to be a combination of releasing at the best time for a new IP and optimizing the game further while letting the spotlight shine on the first party studios pushing out TLoU remake and God of War Ragnarok. Sony also has a track record of spacing out their releases and not blowing them all at the same time period. I.E. For 2022, Horizon Forbidden West in February, Gran Turismo 7 in March, then The Last of Us remake in September, and God of War Ragnarok in November to round out the year. An even stronger first party game line up than their 2021.

This plus the game still looked rough around the edges.

AND

I think it has to do with issues with the Direct Storage support on the PC.

I'd push Forespoken out to early March if it were up to me, that is unless they have something else coming in March or April that they haven't announced yet. I just have a feeling this game is going to flop so I'd want to make sure it had all the breathing room it could.

I really hope it doesn't. The premises sound good and it gives me infamous vibes with a female lead a bit.

Lots of ripping on this game’s dialogue. Not sure I care much, gameplay looks like it could be really cool.

The spell effects are the standouts graphically, otherwise it's kind of all over the place. I hate that cheap looking sky they are using, and they really should have put more work into the lip syncing for the characters. I'm not a fan of the voice acting either, it's not very believable.

Yeah, world looks interesting, the game looks good. I like most of what I see about the gameplay, the bit that keeps me on the fence is anytime I hear characters speak, haha.
This. I won't be able to play a game that makes me cringe every 5 minutes. I like story and I like characters. I really, really hate this marvel superhero attitude where everything is a joke, or they twitter-speak. Sounds like a child. Im convinced these writers have no real life experience to draw from. Pulls me right out if the game.

Another thing about the voice acting in this game, they never actually sound like they are outside it just sounds clean like it was recorded in a studio. She says something about an object being heavy yet there is no strain in her voice. The voice acting is bad but I think it's also the director not knowing wtf they are doing when it comes to getting a believable performance out of someone and of course the writing is terrible too.
