Last night, I spent about an hour shooting at a cave in Destiny's Old Russia region. The Hive kept flooding out, and I kept firing, taking a break only to collect ammo and dropped engrams. That mind-numbing activity is no longer an option. The "Treasure Cave" is no more.

In addition to "fixing" the loot cave, Bungie has revealed some plans to patch some of Destiny's quirkier issues. One of the most troubling things is picking up a higher level engram (which needs to be "decoded" into weapon or armor back at the Tower) only to have it be something quite useless. "We didn't adequately communicate the potential random outcomes of decryption," Bungie community manager David Dague writes ." Players see what looks like the familiar metaphor of item identification, while the Cryptarch thinks he's opening a grab bag of loot. Rage sharding of blues ensues. Expect to see changes to address this soon."

Bungie is also making changes to the different weapon classes. Auto-rifles will see range and stability nerfs, scout rifles will get damage buffs, and shotguns have been deemed effective beyond their intended range. Those tweaks will be coming soon (but not to our precious hand cannons). Additionally, some exotic weapons like Thorn and Bad Juju will be getting upgrades to make them more useful.

Opt-in voice communication is coming to matchmaking events, too. This will allow players in multiplayer matches and strikes to chat with one another more easily. Finally, Bungie has identified a problem with strikes, in that they enemies deal more damage and players take more than intended. Expect strikes to get a little easier soon (The Vault of Glass raid is properly tuned, though).

Our Take
These are good changes, but as someone who has been sitting at level 20 for a while, I was hoping that there would be some improvements to the drop rates. I'll wait and see what's coming for engram decoding, but right now it feels too random to be fun. Maybe that will change when my luck does.

Wow, why even have different grades of engrams if the Crytparch ignores their grades when decoding them?! That's a stupid design decision.

Seems like they spent more time fixing a farming exploit, something that grinder games will always have.

If my AR becomes trash Im going to be pissed.

No offense, but it was OP from the start; it needed balancing. There is a reason it has been pretty much the only primary used in PvP.

Yeah I have a nice Legendary Scout Rifle and an exotic pulse rifle, but I always switched to a blue auto rifle for pvp. Be nice to use something else now. I don't think they did too much damage but the range on them was insane.

Nice avatar.

Yeah, totally agree, I have had so many legendary engrams and have gotten a couple of things out of them and two I got were for a Titan and a Hunter (my character is a Warlock) and the other was a legendary rocket launcher which I already had. I dismantled them so I could use them to upgrade some of my legendary gear. I did take advantage of the Loot Cave when I was in that area waiting for a public event to start (there is one there on a regular schedule) but when I first heard of the loot cave I was already at level 26 and didn't find it that great, the couple times I did get a legendary emblem when cashed in was always something blue and useless to me.

Right now I have two legendary items and one Unique item that I have unlocked the ability to upgrade but don't have the materials to do so yet. If they are not going to give us a legendary weapon out of our purple engrams they should at least give us some upgrade material for it.

That area and an area on Venus have this awesome battle between the Fallen and the Hive (and the Fallen and Vex on Venus). I hope they don't get rid of that, I thought that was their answer to the loot cave when this huge battle broke out and it was a blast! On Venus it is the area where the Vex and Fallen keep respawning, the big open area with the crashed ship. I've seen it happen at both locations twice so hope it is an ongoing thing.

Servers going down right now. :( I never visited the loot cave but I'm glad to see that PVP will be more than auto rifles and shotguns now.

Yeah I love how that happens, and the battle isn't exactly a cake walk either which is cool.

^bad poster this one is

Anyway cave worked this mourning just not this afternoon.
I got mad upgrades and nice toys from it so I'm good :)

They should have left it as it was or INCREASE the rate of the drops.

the s***ty wire lol.

That's so cheap. What's the deal with them stopping people getting materials for improvements! It's like they've decided that the grind to improve your weapons and armour are the core game play. Well, I tell you what, there is no way in hell I'm starting a second character.

A bit disappointed they did this. I don't think it ruin anything. Grinding is part of the game. Plus, I didn't get anything too powerful. Most of the time it helped with weapon parts.

I feel ya on that one, I never received anything good loot wise from farming the cave. I just ended up breaking everything down.

The night before they patched the cave I got an exotic sniper rifle called the ice breaker. Thing is bad a##. Drops enemies that are level 24 and up with one to two shots. Does not matter I'f they have shields or no shields. Has come in handy doing all the queen strike missions and also auto reloads as well. I have seen damage dealt as high as 7000 with it :)

i guess they nerfred farming ascendant shards through queen gear.

I don't get they didn't just lower the amount. Just make them give 1 shard. I have run it 5 times and got 5 helmets. I should be able to get something for that.

not sure if you guys know this but there is a guy that appears in the city every Friday and Saturday night that sells exotic items weapons and armor. You need to have at least 15 strange coins to purchase the armor. Auto rifles and other weapons require 25 of those coins . I have 15 strange coins because I have been preparing for this dude all week. not sure if I'm going to get the exotic helmet or the gauntlets. Decisions... decisions ...

23 for weapons, 13 for armour.

Whatever you decide to do, remember you can only equip one exotic armour item and one exotic weapon at a time.

The problem is I have a now deciding what to get. I have a good helmet now I got from the queens mission along with good body armor. Not sure if I should invest in gauntlets or boots. But the exotic helmet has the most light .

Light is the most important factor to advance your levels. Get what the build materials are for the helmet as well. Some are easier to get than others.
