Official Thread Game of Thrones

I really think that people getting wrapped up in their petty conflicts in the face of an army of undead is a major part of the point. Even the people working together to fight the undead are still mostly playing the long game.

I really think this idea of people being like this will play into the end.

Added a poll. Who do you think will end up on the throne? You can select up to two people in case you think Snow or Dany will share the throne, etc.

Nah. Once they all see, truly see, they will forget all else.

I think nobody should be an option. That would get my vote. Sansa would be my second choice.

i think it will be somebody not obvious, like Sam or Gendry, the spider, etc. JHon, danny, cersei all seem too obvious.

I don't think it can be anyone too off the wall as you still have to plausibly explain someone having a legit claim. Gendry fits the bill but they probably wouldn't have had him off the show for multiple seasons if that was going to be the case.

He goes missing for large parts of the books so it makes sense. Better than having him around just for the hell of it.

I think that would just add to my belief that he wouldn't end up as any kind of important figure. Would be so underwhelming for the king or queen to end up as someone so irrelevant to the story.

I hope it's not Gendry, the guy is the bastard son of a worthless king who has meant virtually nothing to the story so far.

Why do you? Robert didn't have a legit claim, he took it.

If all the others die then wouldn't he Spider, a man who sat on the Kings council for a long time, be a strong claim.

I mean there are only a handful of peeps with a legit claim.

If it isn't a Targaryen or a Lannister I hope it is Varys, it would be a twist I think most would be ok with since he actually wants what is best for the people.

Well he won it by conquest. So in that case you need an army and the houses to follow you. I don't see how Varys is King without it being completely ridiculous. You might as well just make Hotpie King.

Reasonably decent chance Jon is King at some point so if he dies then it would be Sansa as Queen.

I think a point of it is that who has power is arbitrary. The whole system is kind of silly. That's why I voted "other". I can't remember from the books, but how did the Targaryans get power? Didn't they just take it from someone else?

My gut tells me that the people still involved in their petty squabbles as the long night approaches aren't going to have a happy ending.

It is like that scene between Cersei and Balish. Power is Power.

Power is contextual and ever changing.

Targs conquered the seven kingdoms.

That is why I don't think anyone will sit on the throne. Either it goes back to multiple kingdoms or Westeros is too ravaged for it to matter. But outside of some crazy unpredictable type of twist if someone was to sit on the throne the list of plausible people is probably pretty small.

Also
We know Cersei is 100% going to die so she is out

Seems like they've taken many many many liberties, honestly it wouldn't surprise me if GRRM decided to end things differently with the books as a "Screw You!" to the show watchers

He will never finish so I don't think we have to worry about it
