Imo, series is better than ever with this one. I do think they should've evolved the campaign gameplay more though, make the open world areas even more filled with pockets of side missions and enemies and upgrade system on the lead character and/or weapons.
I'm happy with the step they took though. Just keep evolving it from here.

Same here, and the level ends at just about the right length (did all the side missions) too. Ammo is definitely in short supply, I’ve run dry a bunch of times. I didn’t think the boss was all that bad, a b**** to fight definitely, and I’m playing on experienced too.

I think we’re just about at the boss now. I have two types of shotgun. It probably won’t end well. :really:

My thoughts as well. Really like this game. I was never a big Gears guy and 4 left me with burnout. This one makes me anticipate what Coalition does next. One of my top 5 games of the generation across all 3 console platforms. It does have its opportunities to get better. When Gears was at its best, it was just executing the old formula better than ever. Where it tries new things...it doesn’t stick the landing but I like for them to build off those things.

I’d give the game, glitches issues and all a 9.0 today. Depending on where they go with multiplayer, it could finish in 9.5 range. I really like the Arcade mode. Don’t like they’ve forced me to play with keyboard and mouse guys in that mode.

They either need to go all in with the open world or all out

That other guy Fahz who's mean for no reason though is really hard to like, I think they went overboard when writing his part, we are just getting introduced to him and he's a total a****** with no context for why he behaves that way. I did come across a character I like but you haven't gotten to his point yet so I won't spoil anything.

I think I know which character you like because he's probably my favorite.
I forget his name, maybe Vanek? The Russian accent guy who said things like they didn't get the Hammer launched because it was 300 patriots vs. 3000 cowards or some such. That dude f***ing rocked.

With that said, I actually kind of like Fahz more as a character later on. He starts off being basically the polar opposite of Del, but by the end I actually prefer having him around.

I say go all in for open world. But get rid of the skiff, its easy enough to control but feels out of place. For Gears 5 I would have preferred my mode of transportation be a hulking truck or tank. That’s more fitting with the beef-cake/dude-bro tone of this over the top shooter.

I really hope there are more opportunities to use the Silverback power armor in the campaign. I haven’t tried Horde mode yet but I’m sure it’ll be in there too so I guess I’m covered either way.

How about both! I really liked the Skiff.

I guess if both were an option I’d be ok with it. Its just that the Skiff is this graceful and subtle vehicle. There’s nothing subtle about Gears so I want a honking behemoth of a vehicle that can heard from 10 miles away. Basically I’d like the vehicle equivalent of Augustus Cole.

The navigator position on the skiff should be a turret though, and there should be random enemy groups sprinkled throughout the map to use it on...

Yep that's the one lol, funny as F. You are right about Fahz but his introduction was so over the top it was just silly IMO.

Traversing the desert or tundra in a hulking well armed vehicle and coming across a random swarm out hunting or on their way to take over an outpost would be pretty nice. Right now it's just travel to the base that's already been overrun, kill every monster, flip a switch and move on to do basically the same thing someplace else. I know that's how most games are so I'm not saying it's a Gears specific problem but I think having encounters out in those open areas would make them far more interesting. Gears doesn't really have an open world in the way that most people would expect when they hear that term, there aren't any dynamic missions, no random people to run into, it's mostly just empty space with nothing going on until you get to the next mission spot.

I still think a story based Gears RTS would be cool, something like Halo wars with a bigger/better campaign and allow you to really experience a full blown war instead of what really are small battles in the grand scheme of things. Would be cool being able to send in vehicles and troops to fight large groups of Brumaks etc.

From reading the last page, 23, it feels like you could say gears 4 is the equivalent to the last mad max movie. Max was just the audiences proxy to the world and the story was really about furiosa/kait....???

Note, I haven’t played a gears game since one.

Does anyone know how to get Dolby Atmos working on the console using headphones? I have the Dolby Access app installed and set to Dolby Atmos for headphones in the Sound Settings but it’s doing nothing. The sound remains the same as the default Stereo Uncompressed. I don’t see any settings for Dolby Atmos in the game settings either.

On Metro Exodus it works great. The sound is unbelievable with Dolby Atmos enabled. So I know it’s working but just not with gears. Any ideas?

I have no answers, just wondering what headphones you use?

Can’t remember the exact make but they are some official wireless Xbox ones. I’ve ordered a Rig500 Plantronics Pro headphones set and they are the official Dolby Atmos partner ones so I’ll see what happens s when they arrive.

Thanks. Would love to get a good set of Dolby headphones at some point, but the ones I’ve found are either too expensive or have mixed reviews
