Yeah it's almost always "faux K" and that's totally fine, the people who keep saying it's native just need to stop spreading misinformation. I also notice some screen tearing at the top from time to time.

Forza 7 is one of the rare true Native 4K 60FPS locked games on console. Gears 5 while does look nice, is not one of those and people need to stop spreading false information.

Only played a little but best looking game this gen

It's a good looking game but this "best looking" stuff is way over the top IMO, at least the parts I've seen so far, I still haven't seen a "wow moment" but I do see several people on twitter making the claim that it's the best looking game and then including pictures of cut scenes as their proof which is silly because the game doesn't look anywhere near as good during gameplay.. It may be the best looking MS first party game this gen but there are several 3rd party games that look better as well as competitors 1st party offerings. I think the sacrifices required to try to hit 60fps are holding it back.

Finished it. Good times, even if that one stupid fight in the mine made me drop from heroic to normal (I guess experienced to intermediate technically). Weird having a critical choice affecting the story in a Gears game.

That kinda stuff is out of control. It's almost as bad as these cheap-o TV's claiming to have HDR support...theoretically they are right but most of them don't even reach the 1000nits brightness required for true HDR.

What a crock of s***. You have a bizarre (and minority) opinion. We will trust our eyes, as well as Digital Foundry and a multitude of other media outlets making the same observation.

We get it, we get it...you love your plastic PS4.

And that will never change. Marketing will always win this argument sadly.

100% there needs to be a choice like there was in Gears 4. Either Dynamic 4K @ 60fps with downgraded effects, or Native 4K @30fps with upgraded effects ala PC ultra settings.

Why Gears 5 Dev Refused To Compromise On Frame Rate

On Xbox One X, Gears 5 runs at 4k/60fps across campaign and all multiplayer modes. Penty said the team refused to compromise as it did with Gears of War 4. "We put a line in the sand early on in development of Gears 5 that we wanted the campaign to be 60fps on Xbox One X," he said. "We didn’t want to have a compromise like Gears of War 4 where you had to choose 1080p/60fps or 4k/30fps. It was a large amount of work across a lot of disciplines to pull it off, but I really think it was worth it and is probably the best example of harnessing the additional power of the Xbox One X."

and it looks like the Scarlett has Raytracing dedicated cores:

"We don’t have anything to announce right now in terms of Gears with the new hardware--but I’m definitely super excited about what the new hardware could do. Having dedicated raytracing hardware is huge," he said.

Good to hear they updated stat tracking and end of matches now counting. I’m looking forward to playing more Horde and Escape this weekend. Need more practice in regular MP.

Except it seems like they didn't really utilized the extra 4GB of RAM that well...the games are almost identical from Regular Xbox One to Xbox One X, only thing different is Resolution and framerate. Textures and effects are all identical. Should have used that extra 4GB of RAM to put in Ultra res textures from PC version. You don't need 4GB of extra ram for just for a res uptick.

Yeah I find more questionable textures in this game than I did in Gears 4 for the One X, a lot of the wood looks pretty bad, in the snow level if you look up at the trees they look really fake like the old COD stuff, clean but artificial as do some other things. They chose 60ps though, that was their goal, it's not one I agree with for the single player because Gears isn't a twitch shooter, it's a slower paced cover shooter so it doesn't really need to be 60fps in the campaign but they didn't ask me so whatever LOL

Yea I agree. I think that for Gears SP the extra 16.67ms of rendering time was wasted on doubling the framerate. Oh well.

And it's still getting praised as the best looking game. Even DF said they were amazed the X1X could pull this off. Based on my experience so far, I think they made the right choices. The textures look great, the landscaping looks amazing.

Except you haven't played the PC version on Insane/Ultra settings, that will change your mind. Trade offs had to be made for the game to run at 60fps on the X and DF clearly highlights those.

Yup. Nobody is saying they didn’t. It’s a console. You have to.

I installed it on my pc yesterday.

Yeah, I finally started doing that. Also, that last boss on Act 2....

I'm still pretty blown away that these cut-scenes are all real-time. The render quality in this game is fantastic.

Yeah was blown away but the cut scenes right until the end of the game. Writing and voice acting was much better than Gears 4. Finally Microsoft has a studio that can do real time cut scenes at an elite level.

Boss in Act 2 was Dark Souls level of difficult. Took me awhile to figure out the patterns.

Isn’t Gears the definition of a twitch shooter?
60 FPS matters to a lot of people. But they could have had a 30fps option I guess.

I swear I have heard nothing but people wanting FPS over graphics. In MP and SP.

Goal post moving time now that Gears is being praised? Why spend those resources on the graphics which already look better than anything else. I will take great graphics AND great performance.

If it's really eating at you that much, why not just play it on your PC?

You can have your cake and eat it too with your 180hz monitor IIRC.

I'm totally happy with the mostly 60fps on console. Eye candy is cool and honestly I think the games still looks great.. it clarity that the framerate brings is not a waste, it's much better than the heavy handed motion blur they used in the first game to try and fake the smoothness of the framerate in SP mode.

No COD is a twitch shooter, turn and shoot and run. Gears is a cover based shooter, it's run, hide behind something and pop up and fire, it's the exact opposite of a twitch shooter. I'm all for it in MP, people seem to really want 60fps but the campaign just doesn't need it, I don't think anyone has said in the past that they didn't enjoy gears story modes because they were 30fps.

Nope. I can see why somebody might think that based on how MP is played, but the game is far from the fast paced twitch shooters.
