I don't know. It's doing something right to be most played game. I figured if it's not because of physical or digital sales, it's because of Gamepass.
But is it doing something right.

3 million players at 10$ a pop....pretty small return.

If MS didn't want to try and trade upfront sales for more players and GP, I highly doubt they'd be upset about what Gears 5 is doing for them; even considering GP/GPU, Gears 5 is still the biggest launch title for MS this gen.

I hear ya, but I really like the crew I'm rolling with in this game. JD is about the only character I don't care for and he's the son of the legend himself. But he swings emotionally from one side to the other so quickly and it bothers me. So perhaps when I get further in the things you described like rushing things may rub me the wrong way but so far the story has me interested and the game play is better than its ever been so I'm happy.

I was thinking that maybe there were some gamers who sign up for Game Pass specifically for this game like you did. And then when they browse the selection of games and see semi-new titles like Metro Exodus or Devil May Cry 5 it would surprise and delight them and that would lead to new subs. I could be wrong as I'm just applying my own feelings to this scenario and its not like MSFT releases the figures of Game Pass subscriber count.

We could both be right too, a good amount may stay and a good amount may leave. I just don't like the idea of banking on a subscription service overall, makes me worry about the future of AAA game development and games ending up having a ton of content you have to pay extra for.

Traditional game sales aren’t MS’s model going forward. They’re building a great portfolio of games just like Netflix with TV/Movies. MS have their eye on streaming games to potentially hundreds of millions of mobile users on top of the established console base. If they can build up a 50 / 100 million subscriber base in the years to come, that’s a potential billion dollars a month income. If they can crack the streaming as they believe they can, they’ll be rolling in it. Win win for MS and gamers.

Don't forget a lot of those are probably playing on $1.00 trials, I know I was as did some others here.

Netflix doesn't make any money, they have more debt than the company has value they just keep borrowing money to keep making the content and people keep investing because they are hoping at some point the company will get it going in the right direction. It's hard to believe MS will ever get 50 million subs, who really wants to play a console game on a phone? you need a controller to play it properly which means you'll be carrying a controller around all over the place to play a game with high end visuals on a screen too small to appreciate them.

I guess we’ll just have to see how it turns out. Personally I think it’s possible to build a huge subscriber base for both MS and Sony. MS clearly are backing that model and I suspect we’ll see Sony moving across to it at some point too. It wasn’t so long ago people scoffed at the idea of digital games, I was one of them last gen but I’m all onboard for buying digitally this gen. Netflix maybe losing money currently because they’re spending heavily on building up their content but they choose how much they spend, they’re looking years into the future where the sub money is rolling in but they don’t have to spend as much making new content.
Personally I have found that generally MS have been ahead the curve when it comes to figuring out what people want before people realise what they want. Buying games digitally for one example and tbh honest, if my Xbox isn’t connecting to Live for whatever reason I turn it off. For me personally, if MS had gone ahead with their original vision for an always online console that I could share my games with 10 people, looking back now, that would have been better for me as I always want to be connected online and would have benefitted from being able to borrow friends games digitally.

Netflix Posted Biggest-Ever Profit in 2018

Note, not revenue, but profit.

Also:

With a record number of subscribers, the company’s profit last year equaled its haul in the previous four years put together. When hugely profitable corporations avoid tax, that means smaller businesses and working families must make up the difference.

They are also expecting their strongest 3rd quarter ever:

Netflix is growing at a stunning rate — and so is its profit

yeah but some also paid full 60 bucks for the game.

But this is my point. Everybody says it is doing great but none actually know that. Microsoft has created a bubble and the only concrete numbers you get in that bubble are whatever MS chooses to give. They never give non vague numbers....3 million players is a vague number. Sounds good at first but could actually be terrible.

Well this blows. I finished the game last night and I didn't get the achievement :( I guess I am not the only one not getting the achievement.

I paid $80.00. If I could do it over I would have bought the $60.00 version, as I just realized that there is nothing in Ultimate Edition that benefits me from the campaign stand point.

Sucker.

I paid £2.

I am not into subscriptions. I run with the bare minimum. Here are some subscriptions I don't have:

  • Netflix
  • Amazon Prime
  • Spotify Premium
  • Pandora Premium
  • Hulu
  • SlingTV
  • Apple Music
  • Xbox or PC Game Pass
  • PS Now
  • PS Plus
  • Disney+
  • HBO Go
  • Showtime Go
  • and many more
I have one subscription in my life. Xbox Live. In fact, this is probably my last year of Xbox Live after 16 years. I am going with the free silver after my sub ends. And after my subscription ends, I can still play my Gears 5 campaign, horde and split screen co-op.

This is a really weird brag, but I get it I guess? Owning your own media is important, but in an age where most people don't go back and rewatch/replay media the average gamer wastes so much money by not having Game Pass it's crazy. I paid a dollar and got it for like a year and a half and have played so many games I never would have without it.

On topic: I've only played a few chapters in this game, but holy crap I"m terrible at shooting. I'm having a hard time not running and gunning, but feel like I"m wasting all my ammo at the same time. Anybody have any tips or is it just one of those things I'll get more used to as it goes on?

Also can I adjust the difficulty or do I have to start a whole new game for this?

I have virtually none of those subs either. But, £78 discount isn't tetting passed up. I'll be well done witg the game before those 2 months are up.

It should be noted that Disney+ is a "probably" and HBO Go and Showtime Go are with my cable package. Keep in mind I have a five person household, which means I'm trying to keep a small village entertained.

Wasn't "bragging". I guess I would think that if someone was bragging, they would have said they pay for ALL those subs? :)

BTW, I don't have time to "git gud" so my auto aim was on.

I believe they were spinning that whole "share with your friends" thing, no way 3rd parties would allow that, they were already wanting used game sales to stop because they weren't making money beyond the original sale, do you really think they'd allow 10 different people to play a game from one sale? MS never clearly explained how that was going to work either, they contracted themselves more than once.

As far as Netflix they'll likely have to spend even more money once Disney+ and others get their streaming services up and running, they won't be able to count on a lot of the content they currently have so they'll need to make more of their own stuff to cover for what leaves. They also seem to raise their prices fairly regularly.

You gotta have the license, which you get with an Xbox x or other means. By default it’s set to MSs own sound with a name that I can’t remember atm. But it still sounds good.

If you do have it it’s somewhere in the options to change it, again I forget how to set it up but I’m sure it’s just in the settings.

*edit I think VaLLiancE may know...
Wait.... you get a license for free if you have a one x?

I pay for Live, GamePass, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. Plan on getting Disney+. We also share Netflix with my parents. I have no problem paying for this. Gives me entertainment when I have the time.
