yeah but some also paid full 60 bucks for the game.

But this is my point. Everybody says it is doing great but none actually know that. Microsoft has created a bubble and the only concrete numbers you get in that bubble are whatever MS chooses to give. They never give non vague numbers....3 million players is a vague number. Sounds good at first but could actually be terrible.

We also have to remember that not even that entire $10 from people who are paying full GP is going towards Gears, MS still has to pay for the other titles on the service.

+Act 1 and 4 were great. 3 was solid.
+The soundtrack
+The color
+The gameplay is still as good as ever

-It ends very abruptly. Just like 4. Both games felt like there was one more act to come.
-Act 2 is complete butt
-The open world stuff just feels like filler. We checked the box off and now we need pad the game.
-JD, Del, and Fahz are no Cole and Baird.

Lost progress with the story missions twice now. Finished the annoying part where the robot is carrying some explosives and thinks it's a smart idea to be in the front. Then died and restarted 30 minutes back. It's demotivating.

I finally completed the campaign last night and it was awesome. The ending was just full on action and the scale of it all was really well done. And hats off to the Kait voice actress I really felt her emotions during the last part of the game. If the Coalition can add in more life to their open areas they can take the campaign to even higher levels of acclaim.

I finally finished the game! The end of Act 3 and Act 4 as a whole were amazing. This is my favorite Gears campaign!

Man..I never thought
they would make you choose like that.

Really? I think Gears 3 by far still has the best campaign, this one didn't even touch it in my book.

Gears 5 campaign made no impact to me, we hadn't even had two full games with these characters to get to "know" them and from what we did get neither one was very interesting IMO. One was more likeable than the other that's why JD was an easy choice to kill but it left no impact on me at all.

Yup, this is my favorite one as well. I loved getting to know the characters even more. It almost felt as if Gears 5 a a much deeper focus on story and was a priority, where as previous Gears game it felt like the single player was second fiddle to the multiplayer. I will be playing this co-op with my son for a second play through to get all the collectibles and components.

Pros
  • Fahz (he is a hoot, I love the comedy) and Kait. Jack is so much better now.
  • Focus on campaign/story is much improved with Gears 5 over previous entries. I finally felt a connection to the characters.
  • 4K graphics are insane with the 60fps
  • Easy to pick up and play with the weapons, noob friendly
  • Sound, especially those satisfying head-shots that sounds like watermelon exploding
  • Fast and Furious style endless action that gets your heart racing
  • The semi-open world addition, especially the storms and skiff in the desert
Cons
  • Early server issues with the campaign, causing issues with checkpoints and saving
  • Clipping and some occasional slow down that felt like a stutter here and there
  • Jack was too slow picking up items, so I just got them myself unless it was up too high
  • Less swarms, and more new enemies
  • Rag doll physics seem a bit "dumbed" down since earlier entries
  • Abrupt ending at an awkward Act and Chapter
Best game I have played since Hellblade. Gears 6 is gonna be the icing on the cake.

The RDR2 Frontier Pursuits update has really slowed my progress in this game up a bit, but I've also been holding off playing solo cause I've been introducing my nephew to Gears and we're playing it coop. We' just got a ways into Act III but so far we've both been enjoying it. Convo here seems to have slowed as well though aye?

I think another act after that would have felt pointless. The action turns up to 100.

The open world bits are fine but could have been left out and it wouldn't have made a massive difference but still very enjoyable game.

I picked..

JD. Played as him in all of 4 and he happens to be a Fenixso easy choice for me

I liked the addition of the semi open world but I want more action in it for Gears 6.

I would've liked it more if there was more to it than just making you trek around the regions. If the navigator seat on the skiff had a turret and there were roaming swarm encounters, that might've made it fun, but as it was, it just felt like padding out the game. The open world aspect was entirely unnecessary in it's current form.

I'm ready for a paradigm shift in the cover shooter formula. At least some new animations that look more natural or cinematic, or something.

for real, where's the "stick to cover around a corner" button?

Yeah, it's funny how other games where cover isn't even a primary mechanic, kind of have superior cover systems than the game that was essentially devoted to it. GTA & RDR2 have those cover transitions...

Even mass effect 3 has a corner transition. For all the general (though no less appreciated) gameplay improvements, the cover system has only had 2 changes in smoother vaulting and the grab/kick/counter feature.

Cmon. Hold A to transition around corner. Epic should have had that down by gears 3.
