Wait? Have I been living under a rock? Can we cross play right now?

Nice thorough article, makes some good points...but too much to post here:

The end of the article:

Looking Ahead
Since the Xbox brand’s inception, there have always been questions as to why Microsoft didn’t invest more heavily into it. That discussion will have to wait for another time, but over the past two years or so, it’s become very clear that the question no longer needs to be asked. From the promotion of Spencer and extensive hiring, to the investment we’ve seen across all areas of the brand, Microsoft seems to have finally realized the potential of the gaming market. It has been, and will likely continue to be, a sight to behold.

I’ve been studying the video game industry for over 30 years now, and I believe this is the most interesting time in its history (likely since the crash of 1983 and the introduction of the NES to the United States). We are witnessing the complete transformation of the largest entertainment industry in the world. It is remarkable and it has only just begun. The days of gaming being a niche or locked to a box in front of a TV are long behind us, and some of the largest companies in the world are now racing towards the future state at a record pace. And Xbox, now finally having Microsoft’s full backing, is in the driver’s seat.
Only responding to this qouted part....

Most interesting time? Hardly. Nobody is doing anything interesting or outside the norm.

A complete transformation? Where? The only things that are changing are things that are not good...like live services.

The two console idea makes me a little worried. Like Sega throwing new hardware at their problems back in the day. The X should probably be the mid tier console. It could be confusing for the customer.

Also Microsoft doesnt seem to cut the prices of their consoles like they should. The S should be $199 at the point and the X should be $399. So that makes me worried about what the prices of the next Xboxes will be.

I’m expecting price cuts for at e3

Todd Howard spoke to IGN, said neither Sony or MS are screwing up at the starting line. Someone on Reddit made a summary of it all.

Summary:

Gets early access to hardware because of industry position

Confident in direction of the new hardware from both Sony and MS

'No one is screwing up at the starting line', like they may have before

Sony's loading/streaming solution is 'tremendously' beneficial to the type of games they make

Both platform holders are being thoughtful of catering hardware to both audience and developers

wonder why he specifically mentions Sony's loading/streaming solution and not MS. I guess he's just not yet allowed to speak those kind of details until after E3. Sony after all did share those details about loading. I just want MS to reassure us that we can expect it from them as well, could he a game changer. Especially for BGS games.

Someone on GAF says Sony probably has some proprietary firm that they invested heavily in and will be the better solution. Says It's obvious Sony is being the innovator in that regard given their presentation and the leaks.

Sounds more like fanboy talk to me that tbh. Some of them say Sony is just smart about thinking about those things, that with PS4 it was the same. One thing is true, Xbox dashboard is absolutely slower than PS4, but that could change for the new system. Hope MS has their own solution for loading times, because if there's one big annoyance to this day, it's that.

i mean that doesnt mean anything, they could easily have a template for the icons, and if a certain console is not getting it, they comment it out

They shared nothing new. Everyone knew it was going to be Zen 2 and Navi based with an SSD. 0 new details.

4x as powerful as X1X? I know not everything is measured in flops but that would be 24tflops? That can't be right. Maybe 14tfloos and the hardware that is doing the raytracing?

Maybe the CPU will be 4 times as powerful

I'm so confused but super pumped for hardware raytracing! That is going to be a HUGE!!!

I'm sure it won't be 24tf, but the performance will be 4x . There's most likely a lot of HW acceleration helping
