The game had mad hype too when it was announced and details just increased the hype. It could have been a huge seller.I don't know if I blame MS for Alan Wake's problems, Remedy took a long time to make the game, it was announced 5 years before it was released and the finished product was a lot smaller than the game they announced. It was supposed to be an open world game with a lot of content and then was made into a linear game. There is nothing wrong with being a linear game but if you announce an open world game, take 5 years to release it and greatly reduce the size of the title and the amount of content it's a hard sell.

If MS had those issues they then why would they want to make Quantum Break?
They were launching a new console and remedy was a familiar partner who didn't bring in any money but did have a lot of goodwill from fans. They could also have had a multi game deal for all we know, bottom line is Alan Wake took longer than it should have (or was announced way too early) and the scope of the game was cut back significantly. It's not MS's fault that happened it's poor studio management, only way it was MS's fault is if they couldn't figure out how to make the game they wanted run on the 360 after MS bought exclusivity but there were some great open world games on the 360 so that hardly seems like the reason.

I believe what I read in an article or tweet is Microsoft had a 3 game deal with Remedy along with first publishing rights to Alan Wake.
So Alan Wake was the first game.
Alan Wake 2 was going to be developed, but Microsoft didn’t want to publish/fund a full Alan Wake sequel so they turned it into a cheaper arcade title.
For the last game they had them make Quantum Break because it fit with the live TV aspect of what’s MS was doing plus MS just doesn't have the desire to make AW2. I also think that Remedy wanted to do that live action stuff as well, but in the Alan Wake universe where it would have actually worked and fans would have enjoyed it.
The relationship was most likely on bad terms by the time we got to QB, but they had a contract to finish out.
Maybe AW2 wasn't made cause the first of didn't sell all that great. Probably the same reason why there won't be a Sunset Overdrive 2.
Well all that happens to a lot of games and a lot of studios. Bottom line is that couldn't have been their reason for not doing AW 2 because those problems would still exist.
Well the first one didn't sell well either and we know MS has pretty high expectations for a game to earn a sequel, also didn't MS want them to push that TV/Game idea because they opened some kind of tv studio thing that they ended up shutting down later?
Regardless though Remedy screwed up during development of Alan Wake, for the amount of time they worked on it they should have been able to release the game they announced vs the stripped down game it became.
I'm just saying if they couldn't convince enough people to buy Alan Wake they weren't going to be able to do it with Quantum Break.
The TV part was Remedy's idea. It was just going to be part of Alan Wake 2.
Remedy said they were shopping AW2 before coming back to Microsoft for Quantum Break instead. And yeah they wanted to do the TV element for AW.
Well that is Microsoft's reasoning. Obviously if they felt it was a big hit they would have wanted more.
But its still Microsoft's fault if the game isn't successful because there are so many examples of games like that. If they can't convince Xbox owners to buy exclusives that aren't shooters and racing games that is a pretty big problem.
If Remedy made Alan Wake for Sony instead we would have got a sequel.
How could they shop Alan Wake 2 if Microsoft owned the publishing rights? That to me doesn’t make sense.
I am one of the biggest Alan Wake fans around, but the game they made just didn’t do it for a lot of people. And if the only thing holding back so many “Sony fans” from playing it was it being on the Xbox only then that is pretty f***ing childish.

While Remedy had a publishing deal with Microsoft for the original game, the studio owns the rights to the Alan Wake franchise. So once it was happy with the early work prototyping Alan Wake 2, Remedy began to take the video around to a number of publishers.
Eventually, it arrived once more at Microsoft.
And you can’t say for sure there would have been a sequel if they worked with Sony. The Order will never get a sequel and Evolution studios who made DriveClub was shut down.
And finally it isn’t Microsoft’s fault Alan Wake wasn’t successful. Remedy took 5 years to make the game and completely changed the vision of the game. It was at MS’s press conferences and even had a live action mini series leading up to its release right on the Xbox dashboard. It had a fantastic collectors edition that was fan serviced to hell. Microsoft made this essentially available to anyone that wanted it and it only sold when the thing was 5 bucks on PC.
Wasn't lost odyssey was based on a book? So I dont see how it will be a sequel.Personally, i would've loved to seen a sequel to Lost Odyssey but oh well.
I loved Alan Wake, and am very glad it was linear and not open world (though it did have pretty big areas). Especially now, where open world games really are getting tiresome and need some real innovation on how to maintain a story and keep the world interesting.I don't know if I blame MS for Alan Wake's problems, Remedy took a long time to make the game, it was announced 5 years before it was released and the finished product was a lot smaller than the game they announced. Close enoughIt wasn't based on a book, the short stories and Kaim's memories in his dream sequences, A Thousand Years of Dreams were written by an award-winning writer.
Close enough
That's fine but at the time open world games weren't as prevalent and that's the kind of game they announced.
