Ghost of Tsushima - Directors Cut Rated By ESRB For PS4/5

The changes are basically increased resolution, Japanese voiceover real time cutscenes rendering and loading times boosts for the extra $10. PS4 BC mode already unlocked the 60fps.
Yeah. Pretty weak, imo. Half of that is Pretty much automatic with better hardware. On a PC a better computer just gets more res and framerate.

There should at least be better lods and draw distance if they are charging for it. They even have cutscenes at 30fps, so it might as well be prerenders. Good for lipsyncing I guess...

Just got to Ikishima island. It unlocks automatically from your last save.

The experience feels more immersive already with the new DS5 implementations. Haven't had much chance to continue yet (have to make lunch) but the battle feels and controls are starting to come back. I'm playing in resolution mode and everything looks nice and crisp. No dips noticed so far from 60fps.

I'm going to try and take my time more this playthrough since the last time I played the original copy I was kind of just following the main storyline mostly and not diving into side quests much because I wanted to return the physical copy back to my brother as soon as possible.

Kind of pleasantly surprised the DC is scoring higher than the original. Usually it's the other way around as people know what to expect the second time and tend to focus more on the shortcomings. I've been noticing the sound seems to be better too maybe because SP added 3D audio? I can hear more distinctly the way Jin cleans his sword after a battle that I didn't really notice before.

I sucked it up and bought the Director's Cut upgrade. The improved loading times are actually really nice. You're in the main menu from the dashboard in a few seconds, in the game from the menu in about 5 seconds, and can fast travel anywhere in the game in 4 seconds. I'm noticing a bunch of details I never saw in the past due to the upgraded resolution (writing on signs, easier to pick out details in the distance, etc.). It looks really nice with the added resolution combined with 60 fps. That said, the higher resolution has also made some very last gen looking assets quite obvious from time to time (certain rocks, etc.) Would be cool if they surprised us with some additional graphical features in the future like they did with the Spiderman games.

I'm not usually very into haptics / rumble, but I've noticed that the controller gives some subtle different feelings / sound when you ride your horse over different terrain, which has been neat.

Need to try to remember the controls before I head to Iki Island.

I'm itching to get back into it. Only been able to play like half an hour before I had to head out. Won't be back until later tonight.

I noticed the PS4 textures before already last year but yeah the increased resolution makes it more apparent. Doesn't matter really though as Ghost of Tsushima always looked beautiful primarily because of the art direction in my eyes anyways.

For trophy whores, you'll immediately unlock PS5 versions of all the trophies from the PS4 version of the game when you load into an old save. So many popped for me, it took several minutes for the unlock notices to finally stop.

Yeah, that sh!t was annoying because I only wanted to take a quick peek at how the game looks with the upgrades on my lunch break. But the constant popup messages for trophies went on and on long after I logged out of the game which would not let me to turn off my PS5 until it was done.

There are some questionable software choices that Sony has went with for the PS5. But I'm pretty sure things will get better as time goes by. But this annoying trophy message indicator and no Smart Delivery I'm definitely ok with both Sony and MSFT ripping features off one another to make the respective consoles better.

I love when it does that...it happened to me in Genshin Impact and FF7 Re I believe ;)

Very impressive, rock solid 60fps and the only way to force fps drop is in photomode in the most intense area and changing the dynamic lighting, increasing particles, volumetrics etc. But during the game and in gameplay, there are zero drops.

I love the way NXGamer does his analysis. He explains it very well what he sees in the game.

Btw... what's the button for parry/deflecting again? 😅

I thought it was L1 which is block but it wasn't working or maybe I was timing it badly 🤔

I find it funny that both he and DF felt the need to go to photo mode to find a framerate drop, photo mode isn't gameplay that's all they should concern themselves with IMO.

He mentioned that his goal was to stress test the engine as much as possible and that was the only way he found he could drop the locked 60. He then emphasizes that this isn't what you would see in normal gameplay so no need to worry for any drops.

I had the same issue. I need to read through the tutorial menus again, I don't remember any of the stances.

Yea it's L1. Not sure about stances unless they come later. I've only played until the world opens up to you. Really enjoying it so far. Recently played Jedi Fallen Order and was disappointed in the combat, so I'm glad it's so much better in this. So satisfying parrying and then killing an enemy in a hit or two.

You unlock the stances in progression / skill menus as you level up. Different stances do better against different enemy types.

The version tested was 2.004.000.

The footage here is from the Higher Resolution mode which renders at a resolution of 3840x2160 using what appears to be a form of checkerboard rendering.

There is also a Better Frame Rate mode which renders at a resolution of 3200x1800 using what appears to be a form of checkerboard rendering. The Better Frame Rate mode also has a 60fps cap during gameplay and a 30fps cap during cutscenes.

Note that the scenes tested here aren't exactly the same as the scenes tested in the backwards compatibility test here:

Ghost of Tsushima 2.05 patch notes (2.005)
Added some animation fixes.
Added some UI fixes.
Fixed game crashing issues.
Added various online stability fixes.
Added performance improvements.
Other minor fixes.

Got the Sarugami armour and loving it, basically extends the parry time window and also helps you gain more resolve.

I'm just about over 7 hours in now and still going through the main storyline in Iki. I have been doing side missions along the way too whenever I am close.

Idk what gear to wear. I only have traveler's, ronin, and samurai clan. I've spent most of the game with traveler as I like the idea of a wandering swordsman.

I used Sakai for most of the main campaign once I got it. I forgot how I got it though 😅

The DLC is $20. The upgrade from PS4 to PS5 is $10.

If you have never bought the game before it's the full price with all the bells and whistles.

It's funny because when Personal 5 Royal Edition came out, the outburst wasn't this prominent and there weren't any upgrade paths either like Ghost.

According to DF, it's less the price that is the issue but the lack of upgrade.

The extra $10 is a money grab for sure.

I would have liked it if SP did the same remaster like how Insomniac did with Spiderman but that would probably take more time and cost more. Also would have been nice if they added a raytracing feature.

Well, I haven't finished the game yet, so I don't know :)
