Ghost of Tsushima

I just rewatched this. Looks awesome, but I still can't bring myself to believe the game will look like this on release. I couldn't see any LOD draw in at all, and the IQ is super pristine. It could could just be that it's a streaming vid, but even distant trees were animating and didn't look like lower quality assets. That coupled with such a solid framerate AND being open world? I don't disbelieve the animation or asset quality, but... Eh, I will need some convincing- even for a Pro....

Not seeing anything that is unbelievable. Distant trees to seemed to be a lot lower quality animation to me...and not all of them were moving. Doesn't seem to be any grand departure from usual open world games like Witcher 3.

Plus, the entire video is gameplay. If it runs that well then there isn;t really a need to downgrade.

From when they hit the temple, before they kill the two gaurds, you can see a sudden jump in shadow quality, and the same happens again approaching the building, but that's all I've noticed in the video with a magnifying glass.

Those open fields are just stunning.

The characters are even reflected in realtime in the puddles, and it doesn't look like they halved the animation for reflections either.

I did say that I was watching a YouTube stream. Not fullscreen either, actually. Still looks too good to me. Game is still pretty far out too.

Now, of the videos I have watched, I never saw more than 3 "active" enemy AI on the screen to fight you. And when the enemy was on the screen, only one would be in an active fight with you while the others watched, and they would take turns doing attacks. This is based on what I have seen so far, but if it is always like that, having minimal AI interaction on the screen can free up resources for those active background elements like trees swaying, the weather, those fields.

Being that there are no real buildings and ton of repeated natural elements I don't think it looks "too good" it just looks beautiful.

The environments shown so far look kind of empty. I wonder how they will balance that out or make encounters interesting?

Or maybe make the world interesting to explore?

Yeah that couple of acres we've seen so far looks really boring LOL :p

The game does look awesome, but I think my thinking it looked impossible before (now that I watch more footage) was largely because I have been playing a lot of Zelda, lol, and it's beauty lies in the stylization and interaction . I jumped back on to my X to play some Origins and Hell Blade, and, aside from all the movement in GoT, they look comparable enough that it's not so far-fetched. It's easy to take how good games look nowadays for granted...

Looks incredible bruh. Big fan of ninjas and samurai. Always wanted a truly great samurai game and we're finally getting it. That Japanese culture. Got to love the history.

Sounds more like embarrassing fanboy timdog creams his pants at something he thinks he can spin as negative playstation news.

Nobody really thought it was coming all that soon so I don't really see the story especially with all the mentions of tight deadlines. Not really something that makes you think its a 2022 title or something

What exclusives are they playing on Xbox? Crackdown 3 seems to have fallen on its face. What else is there?

Not much for the next year or so. There's a thread in the Xbox forum discussing this. I think it's labelled "Exclusives 2019+"

Re. Ghost of Tushy, Sony's attitude is definitely, "Take the time you need to make a quality game." That philosophy has paid off in spades this generation. I'm fine with waiting until it's done, whenever that is.

I'll wait as long as needed. Sony has delivered almost every time for me this generation.

Same guy who broke the news that The Last of Us 2 was being delayed says this game is being delayed as well:

@DriedMangoes this is efficient ;)

And you can tell.

- An open world with little in it.
- A mediocre story.
- A combat system built around stances but the stances are largely irrelevant.
- Lacks diversity.
- Very repetitive.

Witcher 3 cost $80 million 10 years a go and is a far better game.

A Plague Tale Requiem likely cost half or less than $60 million and is a better game.
