VGTech verified DF's findings for larger XSX performance drops and stutters.

Very large frame time spikes were found on Xbox Series X https://bit.ly/3FDfNNw These frame time spikes weren't found on PS5 or Xbox Series S.

Xbox Series S uses a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being approximately 2272x1278 and the lowest resolution found being approximately 1440x810. Pixel counts at 1440x810 seem to be rare on Xbox Series S.

PS5 and Xbox Series X use a dynamic resolution with the highest resolution found being 3840x2160 and the lowest resolution found being 2560x1440. Pixel counts at 2560x1440 seem to be rare on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The resolution on Xbox Series X seems to be higher than PS5 when pixel counts are performed during the same scene on each console. Some example pixel counts for PS5 and Xbox Series X during the same scenes are below. Note that these figures are approximate.

Xbox Series X: 3733x2100 and PS5 3584x2016.
Xbox Series X: 3648x2052 and PS5 3456x1944.
Xbox Series X: 3342x1880 and PS5 3093x1740.

All three consoles appear to be using a form of checkerboard rendering to reach the stated resolutions.

PS5 and Xbox Series X have some graphical improvements compared to Xbox Series S such as: improved undergrowth quality and improved LOD transition distance https://bit.ly/3HQDm7z

If one goes higher res and drops performance because of it that means lowering the res would likely even out performance which means they are basically the same which is what many of us said before launch. I don't think anyone who thought about it seriously really believed a 1.8TF difference was going to make a big impact, yes it's year one but TF's also don't tell the whole story and there are things that the PS5 does better than Series X and things the Series X does better than PS5. It's not a Pro vs One X situation where one had all of the advantages including a 42% more "powerful" GPU, this time the difference is like 17% on the GPU but there are other things the PS5 does better that help make up a good bit of that.

As far as which machine looks better? I don't think either of them are pleasing to the eye, PS5 went for a more stylized approach but it's not one I like and the Series X looks like a plain old box. I do think the digital edition PS5 (the one I have) looks much better than the one with the disc drive though but I do wish they had done something different. One is too "modern" looking and one looks like there was no effort put into how it was going to look at all, something in between would probably look better.

My favorite console design of all time was the original xbox though, from the front it looked really cool, something about it just said power lol the only thing I didn't like was the green circle in the middle that said xbox on it, I wish it had been darker green or not there at all.

So Series X is as much as 14% higher pixel count in certain areas and averaging about 10% higher in the noted time points but average frame rate difference is less than .5% difference and the lowest frame rate is 6% less for Series X.

If this poll doesn't prove fanboyism, I don't know what does.
A lot of younger people like how the PS5 looks, I'm not younger so I don't like it lol I like things more understated and I hate white casing so I really hope they offer black or dark gray panels soon. I don't think anyone can look at the Series X and say it looks good or bad it's just a box, there isn't much to it one way or the other. I voted in that poll that both were meh :)

Does anyone who's not zooming in notice a variable res difference of 14% max? they may feel frame drops but if they are few and far between and hardly happen while not ideal it's really not that big of a deal either. If anything EA/DICE need to fix that bug that makes the XSX drop to 0fps that could be annoying and it's DICE's fault that it happens not the console or MS.

You probably won't be able to discern the resolution differences during game play here especially if DRS can be variable unless you freeze them and start pixel counting like VGtech.

Xbox Series X: 3733x2100 and PS5 3584x2016.
Xbox Series X: 3648x2052 and PS5 3456x1944.
Xbox Series X: 3342x1880 and PS5 3093x1740.

The average gamer would probably notice the stutters and dips in frame times more. Especially if the hang times for XSX version can be pretty long in BF's case.

All I did was put into perspective a simple analysis of your numbers. Obviously if the Series X decreased resolution by as much as 15% in some cases then it would have headroom to up the frame rate.

The perspective has to have context too. I don't think even the sharpest of eyes would be able to see the resolution difference during movement when playing. But if you're playing the actual game, you will definitely feel those stutters much more prominently until DICE fixes them.

You would definitely notice those BF dips, but for the most part I don't think you'll be seeing much difference in resolution or frames dropped from either console.

Yup, fps drops are similar but the stutters and 0 fps hang times are only on the XSX for some odd reason. When DICE fixes them, then they will be pretty much the same again like most multiplat comparisons.

Yeah with the drops to 0/hitches on XSX, it gives the win to PS5.

Dropping the resolution won't fix this issue.

LOL. The PS5 might be one of the ugliest pieces of tech I've ever owned. Would have looked better in black or even blue, but white? They even patented the side pieces because they were mad people were selling custom ones.

PS5’s dev kit design was bad ass. That in PS1 grey would have been amazing.
Bad ass is a bit over the top, but yeah, better than the consumer version for sure. No grey either, standard black is where it is at.
