I'm loving this game so much. The writing and character development is smoking anything I've seen recently. Fun to play, hood balance of challenge, and great variety. Beautiful game as well. 10/10 so far

Yup , same sentiment. I'm just over 20 hours in and the story just keeps going 😆

I’m about two hours in. The first one was about a 9.5 for me. So far it feels a little too much like the first one, but way too early to judge.

It's been a task to play because of the sameness.
I was sick of the 1st after beating it and working on the Valkyries which was so underwhelming I didn't finish them.
Feel like I'm playing what I was sick of in 2018.

It does feel very similar to the first but I'm still really enjoying it, that IGN Korea journalists review makes more sense the more you play, maybe a bit too low of a score since most aspects of the game are nailed. But about 10 hours in it does feel like a safe sequel.

I can't weigh in too much since I'm only 4 hours in, but a perfect score seems over the top even at this point. In general, I feel like video game journalists give out perfect scores too often, certainly far more often than any other form of entertainment I follow. You can tell even through IGN's Playstation podcast (Beyond) that a lot of the IGN staff strongly disagreed with the "10" score it was given.

I hope future God of War games pull the camera back out to where it was it was in the original games. The over the shoulder view might improve the story telling, but it makes far too much of the gameplay and combat feel claustrophobic with an over-reliance on watching for behind the back arrows to notify you of incoming attacks. Despite how much people go on and on about the combat in 2018 and this, I found 1, 2, and 3's combat formulas much more enjoyable.

I don't get how people say a sequel is too much like the first game, it's a continuation so of course it is lol. Was God of War 2 much different than the original game? Was Halo 2 a lot different than Halo? How different are the COD games each year? Racing games are the same basic game with different tracks with each release. I could go on and on about that, I don't want to add spoilers here but there are some things that are very different from the 2018 game in this one you just have to play it for a couple of hours to find that out.

The 2018 game was a reboot of the series, fully 3D camera instead of a fixed position, different mythology, Kratos isn't just a one-dimensional character anymore etc so they weren't going to reinvent the wheel again with the sequel to that game. So far this is the best game I've played this year and it's not even close, Forbidden West and Elden Ring don't touch it IMO, obviously everyone else is entitled to their own opinion as well and I still have a long way to go before I'm anywhere near done with this game but I have high hopes considering people have been saying it gets better and better the further you get into it.

I found those games combat to be pretty much just hack and slash with no real strategy needed, you just swing the blades over and over. It was fun but mindless. I think the combat in the newer games is deeper and I find it more rewarding than it was in the old games. I love the first two games don't get me wrong but I just think as a whole package they don't touch the 2018 and so far not this one either.

Best God of War games are on PSP.

My thinking is it was given a 10 by many reviewers based on the premises 2018 set. We all know there is no universal standard of scoring a game but Ragnarok is basically improving 2018 version in every single aspect while giving us better gameplay, more complete story and side quest options. In that sense, it's a 10 because it's a worthy improvement of its prequel and essentially not breaking anything from what we enjoyed and expanded on more.

This is my main issue with the last 2 games. I was never a fan of the series, but I liked the older games so much better. I've only booted up the game once, but are there any camera settings to zoom the camera out at all? I went in and quickly turned off motion blur and film grain, but didn't check out anything else.

I'm 10 hours in and I'm fighting in the same realms with the same mechanics in the same f*cking canoe. If it branches out later I'm all for it, but it has a slow start.

The canoe controls suck. They should have used the ForzaTech engine for it.

Exactly lol don't know what's so hard to get, games awesome but the first areas and first big dungeons are hugely familiar, but I can't stop playing due to the story and characters, and the adventuring is so well done.

The game has some of the best art design and storytelling ever. It's just very iterative.

How long to beat says 20-21 hours, so you are probably done. With Atreus telling me how to solve every f***ing puzzle, it shouldn't take me much longer now.

I did do a couple side quests here and there so we will see. I feel I still have some big bosses coming up though...

I kind of like how he does but at the same time feel he does it pretty quick, bloody BOY making me feel dumb, wonder if there is an option to turn the assist off?

I'm about 13 hours in but feel I've got a long way ahead of me, I reckon 40+ if you're doing most side missions. My bloody workmate spoiled a couple things actually pretty pissed, but kind of inevitable things anyway.

Pretty sure I read you can switch it off. Seen a lot of complaints about it telling you what to do literally as soon as you approach the area.

Horizon 2 has the same issue.

I haven’t found a way to disable it. It’s a topic of discussion at gaf and nobody has found a way.
