Playing on a 65in TV in 4K and it looks incredible. Is it meant to have a thin black border round the screen? Can’t find anything in settings to turn it off, it doesn’t really bother me but just wanted to know why and if we can turn it off. Anyone know anything re this please?

Does this game get any better after...

Fighting that dragon and removing it's tooth?

I haven't played it in almost 2 weeks and haven't been compelled to do so from what I've played so far.
Yes, it does get better. The weapons and attacks get more varied and powerful; Atreus plays a larger role in combat; the characters get more interesting; the environments get more varied. The basic gameplay doesn't change, though, so if you weren't enjoying that, I'm not sure you'd enjoy an improved version.

It took me a while to warm up to it, but now that I'm upgraded and have a decent feel for combat, I'm enjoying it. It also took me a while to warm up to the characters, but I'm there now.

I haven't had much time to play games lately on top of being really picky about the types of games I'll even play when I do have the time.

I have a few questions, would appreciate some input...

1. I have something like 80K in unspent XP. Is that normal? I don't have anything I want to spend it on. I have a feeling other people dump a lot into upgrading a bunch of different runic attacks, but I just rely on the same 2 or 3. I've got a few locked skills, but they aren't anything I'd really use. Should I audition for an episode of XP Hoarders?

2. The leveling system works on the basis of armor ratings and enhantments, is that right?

3. I've had Level 5 gear for a while now and looking to upgrade, but the "Legendary" stuff I got from the fire realm is weaker than it. I upgraded it once, and it's still weaker. Not a question, just seems like it's tough to get from Level 5 to 6. It does lead me to my question, though...

4. Do I need the Legendary armor I get from Muscleheim or Nippleheim for the latter part of the game? I'm probably about 60-70% through, and my Level 5 armor is doing fine, but I'm wondering if I'll need something stronger by the time I get to the end. I'm playing on normal. I guess my question is, do I need to grind out the trials in Muscleheim and Nippleheim, in order to upgrade those armor sets, or can I get by with something I find/craft in the main world? Honestly, even on easy, the trials in Muscleheim are a chore; that "defeat 100 enemies" one wore me out. I'd rather not do more of that if I don't have to. So, do I need to grind those trials out, in order to get gear good enough for the last part of the game, or can I do without?

Thanks.

1. Yea same happened to me. Find Runic's you like and upgrade them. Its handy having a good AoE one and Single enemy like Tyr's Revenge. Yes, you should audition for XP hoarders.

2. Yes.

3. On my second play through i'm finding it much better to upgrade good blues until i can upgrade the purple and yellows enough, the slots you get from the upgrades make a difference.

5. No, i beat the game at a smidge above level 6 and skipped a lot of the side stuff. A lot of those challengers are more end game stuff and are much more difficult than the last boss. I do wish i was powered up a little more for the last section the first time through, it took me a few tries and i really had to pay attention.

Got my Dwarven armor, and I have to say, I look pretty badass. Big improvement.

I'm at the higher end of Level 6 now, which I'm thinking is about as high as I need to be to get through the rest of the game. I still have 100K in unspent XP, but I guess that's just the way the game works.

The combat is generally fun, but at times it's a bit too relentless for my tastes. I understand that's the nature of the series. I have trouble remembering all the different options/moves/combos, because there are so many, and because there isn't much time to think during a fight. But I muddle through. Apart from a few frustrating sequences, I've had a good time with the combat.

I'm enjoying the interaction/relationship between Kratos and Atreus. It's well done. Voice acting and writing is good. The creation of Mimir was inspired. I like the other characters as well. The sense of adventure is there. The puzzles have been well-tuned. It's a solid 9/10 for me so far.

https://venturebeat.com/2018/05/22/...debut-month-ever-for-a-playstation-exclusive/

God of War has had a better debut than any other PlayStation exclusive ever, according to The NPD Group. Not only was it the best-selling game in the U.S. in April, but it’s performance in its first month also outpaces all other PlayStation exclusives. That’s not just PlayStation 4 — it’s for any PlayStation since the platform’s debut in 1995.

God of War came out on April 20, so it was only available for 10 days in the month. But it was still able to break the record, beating Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which came out for the PlayStation 2 in October 2004.

Last I checked the Reset thread, estimates for God of War sales (NPD) were between 1.6 and 1.8 million, which would put WW sales around 5 million, give or take.

The only time you really have to worry about upgraded weapons, armor, attacks and all that is for the Valkyries. Most of them aren't even that hard to begin with. The Valkyrie queen is a whole different story. I came prepared and died about 30 times on her. Almost wanted to rage quit but i pushed on for the platinum. It's what i do. But yeah, game really isn't that hard regardless. I played on normal difficulty. Keep a resurrection stone on you and it's cake.

You're better at it than I am, then, because I died 20 times on the first Valkyrie and have no interest in battling a second one. I don't really like games where you die over and over until you memorize the attack patterns. Dark Souls, all that ... not my thing. I'll leave that to you. Good to hear I don't need to do the Muscleheim and Nippleheim trials, though.

Yeah someone at Sony said it sold over 5 million copies in it's first month.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO John Kodera revealed that the game has “exceeded five million copies in actual sales in one month after release.” The presentation can be found here, but it’s in Japanese.

On top of that, a separate report from SuperData noted that in its first month of release, God of War sold 2.1 million digital copies. Not. Too. Shabby.

Finished. The ending was satisfying. The last boss fight was fun.

Good story overall, though it grew some corn near the end. I'm glad there was so much humor in the game. That really helped to balance out Kratos' hyper-seriousness. I never grew to like or admire Kratos, but I did have some sympathy for him by the end. Atreus also helped to balance things out.

Combat was good. Demanding but fair. Lots of complexity, although maybe a bit too much (some of that is probably for the more serious GoW player). The fighting was a bit too constant for me at times, but that's not a knock on the game; that's just the nature of the series.

Good game, solid 9/10 for me. Definite GOTY material, which will be news to no one.

I think what they did with Frey at the end was a bit of a sour point for a lot of us, other than that i really enjoyed how it finished the journey with Kratos and Atreus.

I really wish I had a Pro for this game. I'd love to see it with a better resolution.

Also, I really like they way Kratos jumps down from ledges. It looks so cool, and I remember it looking oddly familiar. Then i watched the first Dead Pool last night (in prep for the sequel im about to watch) and realized it's the same way he dropped off the overpass into the SUV in that highway scene! MAXIMUM EFFORT!

Is this your first God of War game?

I feel like their is a lot of little nuances that went into the dialogue between Kratos and Boy that you don't really pick up on unless you have the full frame of his past actions as a character as a reference point; very subtle nods and such all over the place. They did a damn good job with that and the story overall, 40+ hours and I was eager to see more after the ending.

Also, you said you finished the game, but did you see the ending? ;)

Yes, this was my first God of War. No doubt I missed out on some of the nuances.

The end? You mean this part?

Where they return to the house, sleep, and then wake up and Thor is standing there? Yeah, I saw that. I didn't quite get it, because I thought Thor was Kratos' father, and Kratos killed him. I may not be getting that right, though.

Re. my "corn grown at the end" comment, here's what I'm referring to:

How abruptly Freya did a 180 from wise woman to someone willing to let her resentment-obsessed son strangle her to death (like that's going to help). Followed by her raging, screaming hatred for Kratos. That felt contrived to me. Then there were some lines about how you'd "have to be a parent to understand," which made me wince a little. Otherwise, good story.

Yep, that's the ending I was referring to, they're basically setting it up for a Thor revenge sequel since you killed his sons (Magni & Modi). Zeuss is Kratos' father. After the events of God of War 3 where he killed Zeuss, he moved over from Greek god murdering machine into the woods with Faye/Atreus to become a Norse god slaughtering machine in this game. Probably got them mixed up because they're both Gods of Thunder in their respective mythos.

Also, yeah that was a bit disappointing how they gave her that fast wrap up exit, I was really expecting something to happen afterwards (unless I missed something).

I've watched this video more than any sane person should have, lol.

I'm up to the point where you meet the Witch for the second time and I still have a hard time with the whole throwing of the axe lol...it's the recall it with Triangle that seems to mess me up so I struggle on those rune puzzle that you need to hit 3 fast...takes me forever lol...also can you control it a bit on its way back at some point...? because there's those pinkish vines that you need to hit in the middle but they grow back right away and I cant access some chests because of that, pisses me off ;)

Ah yes, I got my godfathers mixed up.

Yeah, some of those ring-the-gong puzzles are tough. I just kept at it until I eventually got lucky. As for the red vines, you'll get something later to handle them. Nothing you can do about them for the time being.
