I finally joined Game Pass, thanks for this. I just put Horizon 4 and Metro Exodus in my download queue. I'm really looking forward to trying these titles out and there are quite a few others I'd like to play. I'm only paid up until April of next year but I'm sure I'll find Game Pass deals at some point to extend my membership.

MS has upped the rewards points needed for all subs in the rewards program, and there’s no 12 month gold available as a reward either. RIP cheap Gold subs. The UGP sub is market price too.

That sucks. I burned up most of my points after the E3 announcement to get more Gold to convert to Ultimate, so it doesn't affect me for a while, but using bing has paid for a large percentage of my gaming the past few years.

Yup, haven’t paid for gold in like 4 years and GP since inception, thanks to rewards, and I’m good to go till ‘22 with UGP.

Also not a fan of the direct deposit for rewards too, I used to like getting the code to redeem rewards, especially with two accounts

One cool thing is now on PC at least some games support cross saves. I downloaded Ruiner on PC and it picked up my save from where I played on Xbox. No idea which games support that but it was nice.

So hold on.

I have gold until August. If I now buy gold for a full year and then I buy Game Pass Ultimate via the site or Xbox store, it will automatically merge into the full year of GPU?

I probably should have done another year, but I had recently auto renewed and then got another year via MS Rewards. Was just shy of enough points for another year so didn't bother. Either way almost 24 months of Ultimate for the price of one year is a hell of a deal.

Wow you're right. Glad I grabbed a 12 month right after this deal was announced.

Yes, it will merge any time you have on both subs, Gold and GP, into UGP. If you can find a cheap year (or 2) of gold, do that, then convert.

I should note Ultimate also includes GP on PC!

I keep bumping this thread because this deal is insane.

If you can find Live cheap, just get up to 3 years from now, spend $1, and you’ll GP ultimate for 3 f*cking years!!! For $1!!!

All MS releases, day 1 or earlier, for the next 3 years...for $1

Did I say it’s $1??

Great deal. But just remember this when MS posts impressive GP subscription numbers. Xbox guys will sometimes get excited about that and seem to interpret it as a sign of success. But consider that MS is basically giving it away for free. They've done it several times now. If you're basically giving your product away for free, then having lots of subscribers doesn't mean a whole lot. It's sort of like the girl who got poked by everyone on the basketball team. Giving it away for free =/ success.

How can my sharing buddy access GPU? I did the deal and it works for me, but he can only see the games and not download them.

I ordered two years of Golf cars. I have 10 months on current. I would order a 3 month but the deal will expire before I hit the mark to add 3 more months.

But the numbers could still be viewed as a metric of success. I mean, if you hook people to your subscription service even if for very cheap and/or free there is a good chance they’ll renew and keep the service. I think that’s the whole point of any promotion that heavily discounts entry to a subscription model. Get them in cheap and hope to keep them after the teaser rate expires.

Yes, I understand that. MS is playing the long game, with the millions being spent/lost now being a up-front investment, in the hope that people who get the service for a dollar will decide to continue paying for it, when the rates go up.

But that's an assumed/theoretical future condition, not a present, existing one. I don't think it's reasonable to consider it a success at this point in time. Right now it's basically just a give-away. At best, it is a precondition for potential success, much later down the road.

It’s not even the cheap sub bragging rights that really matter, MS is prolly hoping a certain percentage of those subs start buying products on XBL, the subscriber engagement is where the money is.

Wouldn't they be able to do that already -- buy stuff on XBL I mean -- w/o a GP sub? Or do you mean buy DLC/MTs etc specifically for the games they're renting on GP?

They prolly do, but if they didn’t have GP before, that’s just more potential revenue from the games available on GP that they prolly wouldn’t have considered before.
