Speaking to Eurogamer at this year's Goodwood Festival, where Yamauchi has unveiled a number of new GT Vision cars as well as taking to the hill in a Nissan GTR Nismo, Yamauchi said work was under way. But it won't be out as early as 2014, as he optimistically stated last year.

"We are working on the title," said Yamauchi. "I don't think it'll make this year!"

Yamauchi also said Polyphony will go straight into development on the full game rather than working on a taster, as has been the case with recent iterations. "I don't think it'll be a Prologue," he said, confirming that the full Gran Turismo 7 was next on Polyphony's plate.

And what can we expect of the PlayStation 4 game? Polyphony has recently started its own blog where it's addressing concerns of its community, including the quality of the sound within the series which Yamauchi admits isn't up to scratch. It's still in the plan to update the audio in Gran Turismo 6 - as Yamauchi revealed to Eurogamer last September - but the full overhaul won't come until Gran Turismo 7.

"I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7," said Yamauchi.

Gran Turismo 6 has enjoyed a suite of updates recently, with a selection of Ayrton Senna's cars being followed up by the inclusion of Austria's Red Bull Ring and the Toyota TS030 - all for free. The Course Maker and B-Spec modes, which are still absent from the game, are coming in an imminent update.

And when Gran Turismo 7 does come around, the standard car models that persist from 2004's Gran Turismo 4 will most likely feature.

"I doubt that we'll be throwing away the standard cars," said Yamauchi. "Each car has its own fans. So I think we'll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available - but basically we're more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

It wasn't until reading this article, and a bit more reading, that I realized that the game has cars without an interior and the cars that have interiors are "Premium?"

Terrible. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!

embarrassing

I like how they think an interior view makes their car's premium, when EVERY other developer does it STANDARD.

They really need to get over themselves, pulling this crap on ps3 was a funny joke for all the fans, but now its just sad.

yeah, that's exactly what they meant, but the standard cars still have an interior camera.

just looks more like this (sorry for shoddy 2nd image - not meant to spark gfx debates, just showing the core diff between standard and premium cars):

as opposed to the premium:

Jaggie central!!

So, GT7 on PS4 in 2015? If so, sign me up. I didn't get to play GT6, which I heard was a nice improvement (feature and bug fixes) over GT5 (which I enjoyed). I am glad they confirmed the game is in the works.

Sadly tho man, it seems they are still intent on porting the GT4 cars into GT7 as well... however, they are trying to get more "premium" cars setup. Honestly, GT7 better bring it as a game, because GT5 didn't for me.

Well, since they are still porting GT4 stuff to GT7, just make those standard cars optional for the career so I don't have to suffer with 2 gen old cars.

Still need to get Gran Turismo 6. I am not done with 5th series, still. Dang, the 5th series takes FOREVER to get couple of trophies. Recently I just won 500 times in B-Spec for a single bronze trophy. My God, it took me nearly a month or so to get it. Now, my next goal is to get 1,000 cars (only got 920 cars so far!).

They should ditch the standard cars and make the premium cars better. Add real vehicle damage and better sound for each car, etc.

The gaming internet went nuts when they learned that "Standard" cars have return.

I wouldn't be surprise they reuse also Premium GT5-6 cars as Premiums in GT7 and claim the detail levels are high enough. They did said that GT5 models (premiums) are created so high, so they can use it for next gen or something.

I wouldn't doubt it, they most likely toned down the premium models for actual in-game on the PS3 and are able to just to up the detail easily for the PS4 release. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of premium cars for GT7 out number the non premium models, but it is still a disappointment that they're planning to keep them in.

What? So premium cars could be ps3 models now? This whole thing is just completely absurd, varying levels of details on cars spread across different generations? Who the hell even does that besides GT?

I haven't really enjoyed a GT game since 3. But I am very curious what PD does with the PS4 hardware. The game should look insane visually.

"the "premium cars" in Gran Turismo 5 were made up of 500,000 polygons"

Premium cars are more than PS4 ready at 500k polys. GT5 and 6 "premium cars" are cut down versions of the 500k poly models.

lol Forza 4 on 360 had almost double that....

Before this all boils down to an absolute flame fest, let’s just throw some numbers out there. All of Forza 4′s cars have a polygon count of over 1 million, a huge leap of Forza 3′s 400 000 polygon count. GT 5′s cars have a polygon count of 100 000, with only select premium cars reaching the 500 000 mark.

http://egmr.net/2011/10/forza-4-vs-gt-5-a-visual-comparison/

Not only that, even if the above quote is a lie and conspiracy(for whatever reason)l Forza 5 has way more polygons that Forza 4 which already surpassed GT6(even though GT6 came out later than Forza 4.)

So GT is behind big time if they attempt to port those old premium(premuim for 2010) cars again.

You're talking about photomode car polycounts. You don't need even 500k poly cars for GT7/PS4 gameplay, more like 200-300k. Driveclub's cars are 250k during actual gameplay.

GT's premium cars are not behind for actual GT7 gameplay, they're ahead.

GT6 has ~445 premium cars, those should be ready to go in GT7 at next gen quality. Any other cars they can get up to that level is great.

If you actually think Forza 4 or 5's cars are a million polygons during real gameplay... :smash:

Lol, pretty funny that some people here actually believe that. Considering how bad Forza 5 looks in gameplay for a current gen game.

Find the link confirming otherwise. I looked for it. All I could find was neogaf experts.

So you want a link confirming that F5 cars are not 1 million polys in gameplay ? you only have to look at it to know this. The high number poly is for photomode and autovista only. F5 gameplay cars are going to be more like 200k.

That's just absurd. So you expect the X1 to be pushing 16 million polys during real-time gameplay plus the extra polygons for environment, crowd, not to mention the physics, weather dynamics etc.? lol, dream on.

That is absurd at 16mil you're right, not sure where that was brought up.

Idk, its just difficult to guess for me. I think forza 4 looks better tha GT5 detail wise, much less Forza 5. Theres really no way for to scale it considering the number of polys in GT5 might not even be correct apparently.

How is it difficult to guess ? You can see the obvious difference between Autovista and actual races, right ? The actual gameplay polys will be fairly close and usually the overall polys include interiors too. To be perfectly honest this whole discussion is pointless since they are always very close.
